To be fair, there are hundreds of boats still waiting to go through the canal. An official said that it's going to take weeks to get the traffic back to normal. In the meantime they are still diverting traffic.

The Suez Canal was closed twice One of them was in 1956 because of the tripartite British-French-Israeli aggression against Egypt and the second in 1967 because of the Israeli aggression against Egypt in the Six-Day War, then it was reopened in 1975 and has not been closed since its reopening except because of Evergevin

If you heard, while in the canal, two, essentially “canal captains” go aboard. They work for the canal and go aboard ships crossing it. They tell the ships crew basically what to do in terms of navigation. It’s usually their say over the normal captain while in the canal. Anyways, they were the ones on the ship that day. I doubt the ships regular captain was fired.

I live in Haifa, a port city not geographically far from Suez Canal. During this whole deal there was an unusually high number of vessels that could be seen at the port, and as far as I understand it some of them were probably ships heading towards the canal that just preferred to stay by our port and not depart until the traffic jam in Suez lifts. Definitely quite a memorable experience, never saw so many vessels in our port at the same time

Acutally the ship was floated out. The tow boats couldnt do it alone so inflatwable ship floats were put under and around. Lifted the ship up the few feet needed for the tows to pull her away. The Evergiven was then told "no, you sail around Africa. No second chances through our canal"
