As a Syrian, I really do not appreciate the title "the Fall of Syria." I know what it's trying to say, but for us, Syria has never risen so much as it has in the last month. it doesn't. Unless you have lived in a cave it would be assumed you know Sadam was the aggressor, just like with Kuwait, and the video isn't difficult to understand unless you are trying to do so intentionally.
@RickJaegerКүн бұрын
I can confirm it doesn't suggest that. A bad listener or reader might come away with that understanding, but if a person has at least a decent understanding of English, then they won't. For example, the United States waged war against Japan in WW2, but we didn't strictly start that war-no contradiction in that. To wage war just means to do war, not specifically to be the aggressor in war.
@OmidVahidi23 сағат бұрын
I want to clarify that it’s not what the narrator has stated; in fact, he clearly mentions later in the video that it was Iraq that attacked Iran. However, the way this sentence was structured led me to perceive it as implying that Iran was the aggressor.

Pretty much everything is strategic to some nation or power. For example the post Soviet Eastern bloc might mostly be open and very difficult to defend but the sheer distance and population buffer they provide to Russia make them a huge defensively strategic area for them. Then places like Syria are strategic because it is a foothold for Eastern powers and a border/buffer region for western powers. All geography has some strategic value, it mostly depends on what the cost/benefit of said geography is to the powers that wish to gain influence in said area. Strategic value is pretty much just a matter of perspective and objectives.
