Even if we just had a moonbase, it would still be further away than anything on Earth. Given that the distance from Earth to Luna is about 363,100 to 405,700 kilometres. (But yeah, the Earth to Mars distance severely outclasses even that, which varies between about 54,600,000 to 401,000,000 km.)

I'm married to an Indonesian and we can literally say we are from opposite sides of the world. I'm from Colombia and my house hits Java Indonesia. I live in Java right now and to know the time back home I just have to switch DAY to NIGHT and vice versa. Also studied Film in Buenos Aires Argentina but got tired and wanted to learn from a totally different culture so decided to finish studying at Beijing Film Academy which is also exactly opposite of Buenos Aires. Whatsapp calls have a bit more noticeable delay, plane tickets are expensive but since is the furthest I can choose different routes on the way back and visit new places. Earth is wider at the Ecuadorian line so our countries are as far as it gets. Ecuador also hits some parts of Indonesia and Malaysia but I have yet to meet a couple like that. Since you read this far check a 5 minutes film we made in opposite countries, it's under "Planet Zeme" a KZbin search away from you. Thanks

For anyone curious it’s actually not that hard to find the exact point most opposite from your location. All you have to do is add/subtract 180 degrees from both the latitude and longitude. You’ll have to mess with the numbers a bit as coordinates are a bit funky with how they start over in places but not super hard.

My opposite is ocean, southeast of New Zealand. By the way, ever wondered why New Zealand is called New Zealand? There is a Dutch province called Zeeland (zee=sea and land=land) which is quite sea-y, so when the Dutch discovered it, they called it Nieuw Zeeland (nieuw=new)

What about the poles? What time zone are they in? [I'm being serious]. At the exact poles you would be in every time zone. This is like "what direction is north of the North Pole?" The answer is "The question doesn't make sense." This is actually a very important idea because people occasionally ask questions that seem to have no answer, but the question doesn't actually make sense.
@JonathonV4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. It would be twelve hours off if people still set their time by the sun, but in practice no country has done that since Standard Time was broadly implemented over a century ago. Plus, there are countries like China who are massive and have one time zone, and there are many countries who observe Daylight Saving Time and many who don't (and of those who do, different dates at which they change). These days I'd say you're just as likely to be 12 hours off as not.

It's interesting that, due to the distribution of the climate zones along tropics, your antipode even being at the other side of the globe (as long as is not ocean) will be as the exact dame climate zone at yours. For example, Spain and New Zeland have mediterranean climate and a similar weather, being antipods.

When I was a kid (about 1985ish) I told my dad we were digging a hole to China. He came out to check on our progress and a Chinese girl came out of the hole we were digging. She was the smallest of all of us so that's why we had her dig once we got really deep like 10 feet. My dad fell on the ground crying laughing so hard. And we didn't know what he was laughing at. The neighbor lady came out to see what he was laughing at and as soon as he could get his breath tell her, she then fell on the ground laughing. It's one of my best memories!

The closest-to-farthest-away place for the northeastern quadrant of the USA is typically Perth, Australia. For San Juan, Puerto Rico the closest such point would be Karratha, Western Australia. If you think northern Montana has nasty weather and you are looking for a get-away, then the Kerguelen Islands is not only terribly difficult to get to... it is even more miserable. You might expect that at a latitude of 49 in the ocean that it might be comparatively mild like Vancouver or Dunkirk -- but it is heavily glaciated and it never warms much above freezing even in favored places.
