When I was a kid, my family lived in the northeastern Chinese province Liaoning that directly boarders NK. Each and every time when there was a missile test, we were also terrified because we're not confident about their technology at all... And since we're just next to each other, a small technical issue might end up destroying our city entirely. Till today I cannot forget watching the news nervously with my grandma many years ago.

We didn't have the ability of Building a nuke system in libya anyway, so giving up was the smart choice for a stupid decision. But i believe that north Korea wouldn't dare to have it's own nuke without the permission of world's super powers. I was stationed in Camp Casey during 2006, and, one day on a road march, I asked Top what we would do if North Korea came over the border. Top stopped the whole formation and explained that all our bases and all our military assets were already dialed into their artillery and rockets, and that our battlefield role was to be a speed bump for North Koreans while The U.S. and South Korea reacted. I never forgot that.

@@orangecat504 I would say that our groups in eastern Europe are a deterrent. It's about proving that we are willing to back up our NATO allies. It also forces ourselves to act if Putin does something. If our troups die in Latvia we're gonna have to do something, and Putin knows that. That will in theory stop Putin from trying anything. Which will lead to no conflict whatsoever. It's like stationing a police officer to stop speeding, or a home alarm to prevent burglars.

I think that completely takes away from how important your job was, along with the active duty SK forces, although it would be very bloody it would be imperative that the active duty personnel close to the border fight tooth and nail, because the south Koreans have mandatory conscription they have a massive base of trained men but would need time to raise reserve units or volunteer units like the Ukrainian TDF, organize them, arm them, and give them training on new weapons, tactics and systems, and US forces outside Korea would need time to get in country especially if they are coming from the mainland US, obviously troops from bases like Japan and Guam could be there in days to weeks but considering how massive the Norths army is there will need to be large quantities of men and equipment brought in from North America, the bulk of it by ship, I would not want to be a soldier on or near the DMZ durring the initial hours or days of a conflict, that being said depending on their actions and depending on how feircly they resist it could save the lives of countless civilians if they are given time to flee, and the less ground given the fewer US and South Korean soldiers would need to die later in the conflict taking that ground back, also the less ground taken the less damage would be done to the south Korean infrastructure and economy and could be the difference between a long road to economic recovery and millions of refugees or a short term recession that wouldn't hamper south Korean long term economic ambitions

Only thing to remember, N. Korea's army is only functional inside N. Korea. Kim Un cannot chance his army outside of N. Korea, not even S. Korea for fear the malnourished army would break like the wind to the nearest buffet. Taking their chances on never returning to N. Korea ever again. It is very difficult for a dictator who publicly executes citizens for listening to the "wrong music" to have such citizens fight and risk their lives for such a person. Especially outside of their country. N. Korea basically is all bark, no bite.

If I remember correctly North Korea was almost wiped out until China came and entered the war. I think we pushed them back pretty much to the boarder of China; but China thought we were going to invade them next and sent troops over to assist the North Koreans.

When I was a freshman in college, my roommate was an international student from South Korea. I live in Missouri, so we have tornado warning drills with LOUD sirens regularly. One day, After hearing the sirens go off, My roommate looked a bit concerned, pointed up at the sky and said, “bombs”? He thought it was a bomb-drill. That experience will always stick with me as a reminder of the realities that many people outside the US face, especially in South Korea. Of all the drills I had to go through in the US, I’ve never had a bomb-drill. My parents are boomers so I always heard stories about the Cold-War nuke drills they did at schools… But to the Koreans, that’s just their every day reality. My friend served his time (mandatory conscription) in the Korean marines, and he is now living in the US. I have nothing but respect for South Korea and their military.

One of our nearby cities (Joplin, Missouri) got absolutely demolished by a Tornado about a decade ago (2011?). I even met some folks who were inside of a Walmart when the tornado directly hit the building. They survived but tornados are no joke. With that said, most Missourians who see a tornado are more likely to grab a chair and a beer than to hide from them. There’s only so much you can do, so most people around here don’t get too worried by tornado weather.

At least 80% of KZbins viewers are under the age of 18 and promoting violent, sexual or otherwise inappropriate material to children would chase away advertisers and start forcing parents to ban their children from KZbin altogether grossly lowering revenues which you might not care about but would cause your favorite creators to not be able to do this for a living because KZbin wouldn't be able to pay them. Is not allowing children to purchase pornography or watch ultra violent movies censorship? No, it's just common sense. I love this creator and they have nearly 7 million subscribers so it's safe to say the KZbin algorithm has actually been incredibly kind to them. Not to mention how many channels out there pump out straight up propaganda and push agenda driven narratives painting history and current affairs in a light favorable to their political affiliation and obviously monitoring that content is very difficult. KZbin is so large and ubiquitous now it's not unreasonable to expect it to follow the same guidelines as other mainstream broadcasters.

I was stationed at Osan AB in 1994 when that standoff happened. They were censoring the news so we did not know what was happening, other than we were in a very long intense exercise. It really wasn't until years later did I learn how close to war we came. We would have won in the end, but I doubt most of the troops stationed there initially with me would have survived other than the pilots, who would have dropped their bombs and flew to Japan as they did not expect to hold the bases.

I was stationed in Seoul in 2014-2015. North Korea fired a rocket accross the DMZ to destroy a S. Korean propoganda speaker. At the time we did didn't know this though, and we all thought we were about to get attacked. It was one of the most tense moments of my life, because we knew that our current location was in the impact zone of thousands of artillery pieces. We had also been told many times that's we were just a "speedbump" to slow down the N Korean Army until reinforcements from the mainland arrived.

The rocket was a Hwasong 17. It's been around for a couple of years they just hadn't pushed it as far. 6000 km is extremely impressive and it's a beast of a rocket well capable of orbital lauch of around 1 t. Staged combustion engines too, basically Made in Korea RD-250s. It is my estimation that we can expect a lot of space launch activity from NK in the coming years. It's proven way of testing missiles while performing useful work such as launching surveillance satellites. They are cut off from the rest of the world so having their own intelligence gathering assets is vital and of course it's a big propaganda victory. People still think their rockets are shit when actually they have become a premier manufacturer of doomsday devices. Coupled with the last tested nuclear weapon the H17 becomes something to be feared. Up to 6 x 250 kt, most likely able to be targeted individually. And with that yield their bad accuracy is less relevant now. You can miss by quite a bit with that yield and with decoys the GMD ABM system would be overwhelmed by as few as 5-8 H17s. After that the rest would get through. Honestly one could do it, just dedicate one H17 to launching 50 decoys or more (inflatable warheads painted to reflect radar like a real one).

In their case, the mere mention of nuclear weapons was enough to get them to back down. What does that even mean? That means Russia is ALREADY using their nukes in an offensive manner. In fact, Russia has leveraged their nuclear weapons to good effect, they have been able to use them without actually detonating them. Effectively allowing Russia to use their nukes, free of charge. Nuclear deterrent no longer works. And really, I am wondering now if it EVER worked to begin with.

I’m a Korean/American living in Korea for 20 years. Enjoyed the video. The information is fairly accurate and legit. The low birth rate is actually much lower (0.78) . China does support N Korea. N korea shooting missiles across is a daily thing here. I used to hear bomb sirens when I moved here and got scared , but now they don’t play the siren anymore for some reason. Sad to say but you get used to missile launches here and it doesn’t phase the S Koreans (or at least not as much as people would think so). N Korea has threatened for so long and its also a way of trying to get money from S Korea due to sanctions. N korea is not stupid enough to attack S Korea due to the US military , but it is true that S Korea wanting to arm itself w/ nukes too. It’s crazy reality but everybody here seems to erase it w/ K-pop & k dramas.

This makes me remember being stationed at SOCPAC when that bombardment happened in 2010. I worked in he Command Center but not in any operation capacity (VTC Tech XD) But never the less, I remember getting called in, confused as to what was going on, for a few hours a hand full of us sat in the CC and talked about the beginning of WWIII and How we were going to remember where we were when it started. Surreal stuff, thinking about it now we were all completely convinced that was the beginning. Wasn't even that we were worried the North or China was going to make the first move either. To be fair, while Iran were co-operating with the US in northern Afghanistan, they were also funding movements to destabilise western Afghanistan. There were also reports saying that Zarqawi fled across the border into Iran to seek refuge along with AQ fighters in 2001. Whilst officially Iranian police were actively looking for him and even “arrested” him in 2002, Jordanian intelligence say that Zarqawi had “friends here and there” within Irans government/intelligence. There are also rumours that Iranian intelligence encouraged him to act against American forces in the Middle East. Not to mention the countless Hezbollah attacks carried out against Americans. Something I have suspected for a long time is this. Because of mutually assured annihilation, countries with nuclear capabilities, do not need to fear being invaded, or attacked conventionally, because in a phase of being destroyed, they can just launch their missiles, likely starting the end of the world. If I was a high ranking general, my number one priority in weapons, research would be developing a way to intercept or disable launched Weapons of mass destruction. Because everybody having a gun to the others head means we all lose but if one had the ability to make it, so everybody else has guns don’t fire that leaves only us holding the gun. Since the end of the Cold War, I imagine this has been a high priority. And we The public have no idea that technologies our military has. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that at any given time are military has technology that is 10 years more advanced than what is available to the public for obvious reasons. I sure hope we have something like this, but if we don’t, it is shortly in the works, and not just by us. Whoever is able to successfully create a means to make nuclear weapons, inert or not a threat. That country will be the new world superpower.

Iraq didn't give up nuclear weapons but it served as an example of what it can mean to be a non-nuclear country on United States' bad side. I was watching an interview video of south koreans, a lot say they are focusing on careers and cant afford kids but they want kids. I think partially what you have to do is force rich corporations to give moms more affordable bills (internet, energy, cell phone, car, rent being the most important). Especially based on wealth brackets obviously the intent on helping lower income mothers is important, but also incentivizing more well off mothers to have kids in any ways possible. While also making sure moms have career flexibility to raise kids and job security to feel safe. Theres more to it but I think this would be a basic start. These are things moms need in order to feel more secure to raise kids. And immigration also will help.

The one factor that came to mind that can be an option by S. Korea is if say 30 years from now they don't have the man power to fill their military needs. S. Korea has the economic, infrastructure and technological advantage and As A.I and robotics tech improves. They devote their efforts in R&D in those fields and start creating a robotic army.

The only issue with this - you know that the moment a single nuke goes out - US would rather eradicate whole North Korea than risk losing more people and cities. I wouldn't underestimate them, especially as they already have a history of using nukes to end conflicts swiftly.

Any conflict breaking out for them would spell the end of their regime, I would think. Getting a tactical nuke certainly makes them difficult to deal with, but unless they become unhinged and are willing to throw it all away, there isn't much else they can really do outside of posturing.

Nuclear war is a zero sum game, but the ones initiating it stand to lose even more than the ones getting hit by the initial nuke. It's why even 1 and a half years after Putin's invasion of Ukraine, with all those threats of using nuclear arms, it hasn't happened once. Putin knows if he launches nukes he will well and truly be on his own. Xi cannot defend the use of nukes while trying to maintain the sovereignty stance. It would immediately escalate the invasion and get NATO involved. If NK started launching nukes they'd get a swift response from the West, SK, and Japan
