Yes, all this is happening right now, in 21st century in Europe :( I'm from Ukraine originally, and my younger brother and family were escaping the Kyiv in the 24th. They've been standing in huge jam inside Kyiv while helicopters were flying above, then drove around, right near the Gostomel airfield - they had to drive around some helicopters laying on the road. Spent almost whole day just to get out of the city. Slept few hours in two days on the gas station and then spent about 3.5 days on the border crossing traffic jam. But the most shocking thing was at the beginning, when my brother called me at 4 am their time with just a short "There are explosions everywhere outside. We're trying to flee. Call and try to coordinate others. Bye." And hung up... And then news that there are explosions EVERYWHERE in the country, even very far west regions. And then suddenly no news for about 5-15 minutes. At that time I thought that it was the end. That Ukraine is totally destroyed. I still have goosebumps when I recall that night.

As a ukrainian i experienced the brutality of the war,felt the pain of my relatives. At the start of the invasion my uncle was near the Belarus border.He was trying to get away from it,but wasn't able to,when russian forces announced humanitarian corridor they wanted to leave,but suddenly russians refused to let them go,after it the car where my uncle was, was hit by bmp or btr,and after artillery shell landed near the car,he had little chances of surviving,but people and few russian soldiers decided to help and transport him to the border,after that he was transported to Germany in hospital,he had 200+ metal pieces in his body and had little chance of living,he experienced his hear stopping for more than 6 time,most of which were during the operation,so it was decided to stop doing operations due to his heart stopping at the operations,it was said that his heart just won't go through another surgery.Right now he's fine but still in the hospital, thanks to many kind people and that few russian soldiers that decided to help,i don't remember all of the story completely,but i mentioned the main events. Even far from the frontline we can see and hear that the war is happening,since everywhere you go you'll see someone in military uniform and during massive strikes you could hear the rockets flying over or hitting their targets. Thanks to our strong nation we didn't fall to much stronger army that was feared everywhere in the world,and didn't give up.Many of the ukrainians went to army volunteerly at the start of the invasion,thanks to our soldiers,people and support from other countries we are still here and continue fighting for our independence.

As an electrical engineer, I would point out that it would be a sensible strategy to conserve electricity for heating, charging, and communications rather than use it on night lighting. Light at night attracts targeting sensors. Best to keep the lights off and force the opponent to maintain infrared surveillance, which is a bit more difficult than optical surveillance. However, I don't think this kind of conservation is what is going on in North Korea.
@smitajky Жыл бұрын
We had blackouts in London and England quite obviously to make it harder for German night fighters. Cars with hooded lights to avoid demonstrating roads or other landmarks. It is a normal war strategy. Equally in ww2 the thrust changed from fighting against armies to destroying infrastructure through Germany. If they couldn't get fuel or produce weapons they couldn't fight. This strategy was successful and would have been successful in Ukraine except for the continued mass input of foreign weapons.
@WangAiHua Жыл бұрын
Do you NOT understand the difference between the LIGHTS being turned off and the ELECTRICITY being turned off?--No lights mean harder for planes to see targets (but that is WW2 ---Ukraine is being bombed with MISSILES--they are sent out on co-ordinates not visible lights as were bombers during WW2), but no ELECTRICITY means NO WATER, NO HEAT and NO LIGHTS---totally DIFFERENT and much WORSE! By the way: Hitler and Stalin were allies in 1939-1941 when they both attacked Poland to start WW2 (Molotov-Ribbentrop).RuZZia only changed sides when Hitler attacked them in 1941 (Operation Barbarossa). @@gooner4lyf Man, you really want to start a fight with someone in the comments and prove yourself righteous, huh? Fine, I’ll give it to you. First off, yes, I’m well aware of what happened/is happening in the Middle East. I’m actually among the people in the west who detest any involvement there, except if it’s for protecting the Suez Canal. Second, have you maybe considered that “significant” is a very broad & NEUTRAL term? Yes, it is significant in that it’s the largest loss of life in Europe within a short period of time since WW2! I don’t mean that in a sense of: “Brown ppl die, whatever. But Europeans dying = Unacceptable.” Also, the reaction of the west (sanctions) also makes this more significant. When something(s) big that hasn’t happened in a long while for a region happens again, don’t you think it is kind of a big deal? Therefore, “significant”? Maybe don’t assume EVERYONE’S a racist apathetic with double standards(?)

What did people expect, when they chanted to go to war with Russia? For Russia to fall in a day? Third parties have instigated a civil war in Syria in 2011, in order to force regime change. 350.000 people died in the ensuing conflict and Assad is still in power. Two in one, so to speak. And yours - "you condemn the ukrainians, so the Russians do it too" - you are our inexpensive simpleton - if there was even a hint that the Russians are doing this, your Western gang would squeal so that the windows would burst in China. Or in Australia. Only now the Russians, unlike the ukrainian nazis, take them prisoner, and unlike the Ukrainians, who beat our prisoners and starve them to death, they treat them like human beings. look at the video where the exchanges of prisoners take place - the ukrainians are all clean and healthy, and the Russians are emaciated. ukrainians have long been hiding troops and equipment in residential buildings, shopping centers, schools, hospitals - and firing from there - but not a single political bastard in the West talks about this or condemns it, although there are eyewitness accounts (local residents), as well as video confirmation. In ukraine, since 2014, ALL political parties that do not support the course of the CURRENT government have been banned - but for you this is the most democratic state of all possible - it is ironic that this is apparently the true face of democracy - total terror and dictatorship. Only a few journalists in the West have tried to say anything about this - but they are quickly silenced. Or they are simply not allowed into the information space to tell people about it.

The russian way of war is to kill as many civilians as possible and to throw bodies at the enemy. This kind of warfare won’t work in the modern era. Unlikely. There's nothing particularly controversial in the video. Lots of political garbage about whether or not Russia is justified in continuing to murder hundreds of thousands of people (which arguably includes their own conscripts) for a war they effectively lost 10 or 11 months ago, but the video doesn't touch on those politics - just shows images of the devastation which are not really in dispute. Nobody from any side is suggesting that wars aren't destructive.

I've watched many tourist channels such as Bald and Bankrupt and Ukraine use to be my favorite videos made. Bald and Bankrupt even has a video of the day he had to get out of Ukraine because the Russians had started their invasion when he was visiting. He had been to the Russian border in Ukraine the day before it started, asking locals what they think will happen. Asking if they think they'll be invaded and some were scared. There was one who lived on the border and believed it to not be true as he couldn't see any military.

I often think of his videos and how now, they will be almost a "historical documentary" in some respects. None of the architecture, infrastructure or the trains/buses he travelled on will be there anymore. All those people he met, those interactions he had.... what happened to those people? How will they be now? I reckon that he must be quite upset about what has transpired in Ukraine
