We are a family of 6 too! I use the whole box of pasta for each meal, the kids will eat the leftovers the next day. This eliminates lots of small quantities left over in the pantry, which won't be enough for another meal.

I usually do too! I’m not sure why I had a small amount left. Haha. Maybe a recipe called for 12oz and the box was 16oz. 🤷🏻♀️😆

Instead of decanting cereal, I immediately put an opened bag into a large gallon zip lock bag (including the cereal bag rolled down). I ditch the boxes. The various ceral “baggies” then go into a clear square bin. The ziplock bag keeps the cereal fresher vs in an open box, and you can see what’s left, plus less mess that would have been made decanting. You can easily just grab out baggies of cereal for breakfast or even just pull the whole bin out. Limit how many cereal baggies are in there and use up before opening new. Can’t tell you how many containers I’ve bought/used/tried/ditched over the years. Who knew ziplock bags were the answer! ❤

I have a rule that when I go thru my fridges and pantries that I toss all expired items and those that are about to expire in some cases. Also toss most of your items that have bypassed the Best by date. Check for expired dates when shopping and if you can’t find a expiration date simply don’t buy it. Buy your Deli meat from the actual counter including cheese and try to grocery shop on the same day each week. Leave your cereal in the boxes especially if you use them up because they have dates on the boxes. Buy your rice and pasta in boxes so you can store and stock your pantry easier.

A fun way to use up “end of the trail mix”, or something that wasn’t loved…I throw it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, add in some popcorn, broken or small Pretzels, drizzles it all With melted chocolate. Let harden and it becomes a snack bark…that’s somehow appealing in a bowl On the counter?

A designated pantry space can be a blessing and a curse. It can be difficult to manage but you're doing fine. Anything new that you buy is a gamble, with the risk that it will go to waste. I feel like you get a pass on the first time you try something new because it's a learning experience, whether it's a hit or a miss. My partner bought a massive sack of rice from Costco even though I opposed the idea and we each made it 1 time before it was abandoned. Luckily, my mom was willing to take it off our hands though!
