I realize many at this time many not be able to stock up on the items they need but hope this can still be helpful as stores continue to restock. Also, our Mother Earth link is in the description box and you can save 10% on your first order going through that. Looks like their stock on freeze dried veggies is low but they seem to have a lot of their dehydrated items available

Good morning 🌞 Heidi 💚🌱 covidtrial.IO 40 patients in the south of France we're all 100% healed in 6days after this treatment. Idk specifics like which strain was it effective against 1 or both? This man Rigano has made a public call out to medical staff to join the trial. Idk in which capacity, like treating ill staff or medical observation over patients with family and patients permission for treatment. He been in talks w Fauci ( kinda cringy ) and Elon Musk to organize and fund production of more of these meds. May be available for mass use in 1-2 months. These meds aren't new, they've been around for awhile. I'm not a HUGE advocate for antibiotics but hey in light of this I may reconsider in this particular situation. I like Glen Beck I know ❤️ him or NOT I do believe he has mankind's interests at heart I watched him for years, turned away bc I felt like WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW THIS I CANNOT HELP ANYONE and seriously the pain and corruption in the world made me kinda miserable. Well I found homesteading and it became my therapy and schooling. I THANK GOD 100% for having found this Community. My family is better off for it. I have NO IDEA ifvim just a foolish idealist or CAN I HELP maintain calm in my tinder box if a hometown, at least my neighborhood which is a somewhat significant size. I'm advising my brother whose in the public as a worker in his Community that they NEED TO REALIZE LIFE IS DIFFERENT. BEHAVE. BE CALM. WE MAY HAVE RATIONS. BE GRATEFUL. THERE IS SOME FOOD SCARCITY. GROW UR OWN. I'm trying to help w advice. Passing the word of soil amending and low tech ways of food preservation such as dehydrating and fermentation. I'd be clueless in the fermentation Dept were it not for you Heidi so ty once again.

@Lola Y home canned depends on quality but as long as they are sealed they are safe to eat. ive had really ugly brown cherries twenty some years old that tasted great. if you want the food to look good keep them out of light and if you want them to last really long kerp them cool like in a basement . but ive heard, after a year certain vitamins chemically break down. ive never been able to taste the difference though. hope that helps

@Lola Y absolutely would be. theres some things, like eggplant, that you cant really can well but mostly it works. so far everything i grow gets eaten before i have enough to can but sometimes the guests order catering at my work place and i bring the leftovers home to can. i also grow lots of perennials and put cover on them so i have a bit more to harvest when its cooler. eventually i want to get a family cow but ive got a lot to do with fencing and barn repairs first!

@Lola Y While TInnerste is correct, I find that 18 to 24 months max is optimal. So, if I have a bumper crop, I'll can enough for only one or two years. I also immediately share what I don't think I'll use within that time with family. Nothing worse than wasting storage space on things that we won't really want to eat unless its the apocalypse.

I work at a local Walmart and am seeing the insanity first hand. It’s crazy! For years I’ve made a couple trips per year to a nearby Amish store and buy all my spices a some flour in bulk. I garden and can my produce. We have venison in the freezer that we process ourselves. I keep a close eye on sales at the store - I found frozen turkeys on sale for 48 cents a pound....so I bought 3 of them🤷‍♀️. I’m going to cook one of them tomorrow and have leftovers for the week, have plans to put one on the smoker this summer and that will still leave me one for thanksgiving... and I won’t have to spend triple the price. 😃. I live over 20 minutes away from the nearest store (And don’t like shopping every day after work😒) so I like to stay stocked up. It’s for sure out of convenience that I do so. So now while everyone is freaking out and panic buying, I already have all the things me and my family need and will be fine for a good while. I’ve gotten a little good natured joking from family, but they know where to come if they need anything. My little brother comes “Shopping” at my house once a month or so and exchanges empty jars for full ones. Perfect deal! Anyway, you continue to be an inspiration and I continue to enjoy your videos. In my opinion, you can’t make too many videos about herbs, gardening,canning, dehydrating or food preservation! Take care and god bless! ❤️

I have always kept a few canned goods in my home, but several years ago, when a hurricane hit New Jersey and I watched on TV families lining you to pick through a dumpster for food, I got serious about it. Every year I pick one preservation technique, read, watch, and put it into use for my family.

I also try a new foraged food each year, and cook up one batch of past years experiments too. That way, I'm familiar with foraging if it's ever necessary. This year, I revisited chewing on stems of the bright yellow oxalis that grows in the orchard. Spent many an hour weeding these as a child. They have a spritely lemon flavor.... enjoyed it enough to grab another stem. Lemonade in Spring.

I've never been able to wrap my mind around people's mindset of buying only enough for 1 week. I counsel them that they should buy what they need but also purchase a few items extra each week to start building their contingency storage. Because I know the reality is most people can't afford to buy massive amounts of items all at once and no matter your income bracket there will be times when things get tight

I am so glad you made this video. All the things you do were central to how life was during our parent's time and back hundreds of years. There is a reason for it. You live long enough you discover people lose jobs, people get sick, people get divorced, people experience life in different circumstances. Each culture has their own take on this that also goes back hundreds of generations. It is not weird. This was normal. A person's largest expenditures touch housing and utilities, transportation and it's associated costs, Health insurance and other medical things.Then there is food that we know we will need till we die. Learning how to dry food, can food and freeze food is powerful. It may feel awkward at first. There will be mistakes. But if you continue and become determined to learn and practice and learn and practice, you will feel a satisfaction in your soul that will help you lift your head up. I met a lady who had two sons and a husband who was a violent alcoholic. Frequently she and her sons went without food and the hope of food. He would smash all her canned food. He loved to destroy things. But she was so determined. He ripped out her gardens every year. But she would not give up. She lived far from city and stores and barely had any money. But she figured out how to raise a garden, raise some chickens and can lots of food. There was a farmer who allowed her to plant her little garden on his land in a place hidden by his crops in back of her house. She hid the chickens there too.(This was the first time I ever saw canned chicken!) She canned when he was at work or on a binge and ripped up floor boards and other places where she hid her jars of food. Her story broke my heart but her perseverance made me look at her with awe. She was an amazing woman who showed me if you desire results, with God's help you can find a way. Such a lovely woman I will never forget!

This year would be a great year to start gardening if you have never garden you can do them in some type of pots. It is such a good feeling when you can put away the food that you grow.. 14 March 20 Was a wake up call for us in a small town; as we went grocery shopping and the story was packed! I have nerve seen this before; and many people that we did not know! and many shelves empty. They limited some meats to only two of them each. All I am saying as listen to people like Rain Country to store when bad things happen it is NUTS out there.It was not a calming day for us. Big bag 25, 50 lbs Rolled oats, Rice, beans, Wheat, Peas, Lentils were gone! that was at a small bulk store we go to as well. There was empty freezers in the Stores too.

People have asked me why I have so much food for just my family of 3. I've canned, purchased items in large quantities since we 1st got married 39 yrs ago, because I know there will be times that finances won't be able to sustain us. In the past 2 years I've amped up the canning have started stockpiling freeze dried etc. WHY? Because my husband is retiring this year and it worries me to think about how much less income we'll have. This way, I have a stockpile that I can purchase small amounts to replenish what we've used and not have to worry about if something major happens financially how we'll survive

Get the traditional Ball Blue Book, and check out the gov website nchfp.uga.edu (national home food preservation). Once you've mastered dehydrating, I agree with others, try water bath canning. The set up is usually cheaper than pressure canning. You can put up fruit, relishes, jams, and pickles with that set up. You'll still need the dehydrator for vegetables, herbs, and meats; until you brave the world of pressure canning. But... for now... a good investment would be a Ball Blue Book so you can see what you can do and get inspired.

I have a friend who I am trying to encourage to store food for herself and her family. I show her what I do, and yes, she mocks me. So, with the craziness that is happening I asked her the question. What if a terrible storm happened and you could not get food or water for a month or so. What will you do? She proceeded to say, well, I’ll just go to your house and giggled. I then smiled at her and said, what will you bring to help the situation?? That got her thinking.

Love the scarlet runner beans!!! So awesome they are a perennial. They do need picked often... Lol. The beans are very pretty too. Speaking of prepping:. My whole life I've been called a hoarder or treated like a nut job. My mom grew and canned as did my grandma. I do what I was taught. When covid hit my adult son panicked and asked if his family could come live with me. (They don't ever come visit). I was like what? He said well I knew you could feed us all. Guess I'm not such a nut job after all.... I enjoy growing, cooking and preserving. I'm poor; but have had plenty to share by the grace of God.

I enjoy it and find it very satisfying. I started just buying 2 of whatever I usually bought 1 of, when I could. then I just grew it from there. And I know what I bought will be more expensive in the future anyways. thank you again!

I only have a small flat and an even smaller balcony. But the seeds for my herbs and lettuce are already out. I grow lettuce from april/may to october/november and also regular sprout different seeds - so even when the pantry cupboard gets boring (after a few months), I can supplement with fresh vitamins. It makes me feel really good and secure - just knowing that I don't have to go out should things get rough.

I don't need to worry about running out of food with the current pandemic but, before this growing season ends, I want to learn the complete skills of canning. I was wondering if one could still buy non-GMO corn. The other thing about being prepared is that you always have a supply. No such thing as having to run to the store because you ran out of a certain ingredient. That saves a lot of time!! In my experience, potatoes store best in a vented plastic container or plastic grocery bags. Just put in the potatoes, nothing in with them. If a potato rots, it was damaged before it was put in and the rot don't transfer to adjacent potatoes.
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 4 жыл бұрын
It can also depend on the type of potato, the ones I grow are not actually the best for long term storage but the way I stored them this year they have lasted longer than ever. They ARE trying to grow now though, which is fine, much of what is left will be going in the ground soon anyway.

I am very thankful for having things already in place for our homestead. Before all of this started I had decided to add more of our own food production to our homestead and those steps have made things less chaotic. We have a local store that sells bulk goods so I restocked our grains/beans but that is it every thing else we are good. We also have chickens and goats so we are good on eggs and our dairy products as well. My biggest worry is more what other people will do when things are not easily available.

Thankyou, Heidi, for such good sense.Recently, I have been noticing that my pantry is going 2 steps forward and 1 step back...and sometimes l feel like l am going backwards. Being jobless, it's really hard to put food away for a rainy day, when it just keeps "raining"! But l keep going, and it's so GOOD to have that bit extra put away for when a big bill comes in...l might only have a few dollars for food sometimes, but that's all l need, with those few extras put away. God knows that l am doing my best, and l know that He is to be trusted when l need things. He will provide what l can't. Including a job. And He is showing me how to be a better and smarter gardener. He is so good. Thankyou for your encouragement. God bless you. ❤🦘🪴

I see two steps forward and one step back just as it should be, If we are learning to work through our food storage even as we are filling it up, yes, we will see a step back wards but as long as we are still taking two steps forward, not only are we keeping it as it was but we are still moving ahead. The man serving me said it had been crazy all day. I didn't notice it in the produce section, the frozen stuff was a different story! I just got the last 5 bags of the expensive Italian flour - not sure when we get more since Italy is locked down😉 (in order to get my discount I had to spend $ 40). Our schools will be closed all next week, I should can carrots since I will be "out of work" and have empty jars. Hi Cody!! Hubby wondered if we have 2 weeks worth of food, I laughed!!! Please keep spreading the word on how a food pantry prep is maybe more essential to survival then TOILET PAPER! I am over this herd temperament creating hate and fights. My dear Lord. Great discussion. My last time at the store shelves are noticeable empty.. We have a generator and we have used that alot, lots of outages. A hand pump for our well. Our state closed all schools in Michigan 12 cases a day ago now one day later 24..I put myself on lock down to stay away from the public. Prepping really comes in super handy. I plan on drying this week. I got carrots at a grreat cost so I'm dehydrating them. Also 2 big bags of potatoes. God bless tysm for spreading the word patiently!🌹🌹🌹😍
