I just read about this on WUS. The rotor is propellor shaped and each blade is made from the metal of a WW2 plane (spitfire, hurricane and Blenheim) plus a veneer of wood from a WW1 biplane. It is expensive but it’s more than just a base 7750 watch.

Frederico, you are definitely missing the point. First, aside from the unique case design that your IWC is lacking (and IWC is definitely overpriced), Bremont donates a large portion of its LE proceeds to the matching themes. Are their watches on the higher price end of modified ETA's? Yes. But put into context, they are trying to bring production level watch making back to the UK. Not readily done by an independent brand not owned by a large cooperation like Richmont. The LE's also use actual historical material from the events they honor. The travesty is that people have gotten so obsessed with things like"in house"(whatever that means these days) and "brand history" (which half the time is so filled with marketing fluff who knows how real it is...Blacpain). Bremont doesn't offer high horological finishing, but 90%of their watches are tool watches and priced competitively. Can a Rolex or Omega survive 30g's of force or have hardened steel? In the end this whole industry is completely subjective, but critics should at least be consistent.

I owned two Breitlings in succession and both let me down badly. Scratched metalwork and several crystals badly scratched and replaced. Also their time-keeping was not that good. I have had a Bremont ALT-C1 for seven years - not a mark on it and keeps perfect time. As I recall around £4,000 and well worth every penny. I am not a collector and not in the least bit interested in image. I fly and want a watch that works, that stands up to wear and tear and keeps time. That's it.
@TheBigBadGRIM7 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, Bremont's best watch was their SuperMarine 500 either blue or green and with the beautiful matching rubber strap that felt like licorice. Their Martin Baker watch is technically amazing but the hands on the dial are a bit goofy to me (except for that awesome yellow part). Also, for 11k you can already get a guilloche dial watch with a skeleton movement and still have enough money for a Nomos Ahoi.

Well they have encased artefacts from the highlighted aircraft and a percentage of the profit is going to the RAF Association... Like all the brands they are selling dreams. As an ex-airman who served for many years it is probably meant for they likes of me with deep pockets! Unfortunately, that is where the similarity ends... so I'll never own it or an IWC chrono for that matter! But I appreciate the workmanship, the nod to the RAF's 100 birthday and the bravery of those that served. If you love it and can afford it then buy it; out of your taste or price range then move on and spend how you see fit. Per ardua ad Astra!! Lol

I worked in London when Bremont opened their store. Ive handled lots of their watches and would never in a million years pay the prices they are ask for their watches.
@alastair41516 жыл бұрын
If you are all thinking that Bremont watches are overpriced,the real piss taker has to be Rolex. Their green glass Milgauss is £600 more expensive than the ordinary Milgauss with the clear glass. £600 more for the same sapphire crystal glass with a green tint? WTF!!!!! Also their 18ct Submariner is over £15000 more expensive than the regular steel version. The value of the gold they use to make that watch at todays prices is just over £5300....But wait! its only 18k which is 75% pure gold,so take 25% off that price which makes the gold actually only worth just under £4000...But they charge an extra £15K for the watch,a nice £11000 Extra profit for Rolex,and that's before the value of the surgical steel is taken into account.If there. is one overpriced watch,then Rolex must be at or near the top.Rolex made 65000 steel Daytonas alone in 2017,and this is meant to be their most "exclusive" watch that everyone wants,with that number produced I would hardly call it exclusive.
@joshsmith78125 жыл бұрын
I agree to an extent, but 18k at 75% is pure gold, it's a high purity, for a watch you wouldn't want to go any higher than that because it would get damaged and scratched very easily because gold is so soft. Ontop of the actual gold cost in weight, they're charging you a premium to own a Gold Rolex, as well they have their own in house foundry, the gold ones do cost more to manufacture
@NaNa-wj8tw5 жыл бұрын
alastair macdonald Just see how over-priced the Rolex is when you come to sell it. The Bremont’s already down 70%. They’re a shitter pal. Microbrand shitter.
@yetidh95 жыл бұрын
Late reply, but if you think Gold Rolexes are overpriced, what about their Platinum versions. Platinum is actually the same or even cheaper than gold at the moment. In actual fact the value of the raw materials are only a part of the total cost. Gold and Platinum are much harder to work than steel. It takes a certain amount of expertise and skill to make a watch from platinum or other soft metals. They also make far less precious metal watches than steel so the economies of scale aren't there. This is probably the case with the green crystal on the Milgauss. They will make million of clear crystals across their range but it's only the Milgauss that has green tint. There's no point trying to rationalise the value of luxury goods. At least with Rolex they hold their value - well not the gold ones so much, but the steels ones definitely do. Last time I checked, nobody is forcing you to buy a Rolex. If you don't like the brand or the pricing, buy something else.

So in short you like the watch but your only issue is the price? Money is all relative and I think Bremont know their market. It's a limited edition after all. They all sold and a quick look on Chrono 24 shows up 2 stainless steel versions listed at around the uS$11.5k mark. So they are holding value.
@xjsteve7 жыл бұрын
I’m a British guy Fed, and I agree with you totally. Bremont are, in my view famous only for marketing watches with base ETA movements for prices well in excess of their competitors. This is purely weighted on Bremont’s “affiliation” with iconic brands such as Jaguar, Norton or in this case the RAF. Bremont have no real heritage of their own so they have to create partnerships with other brands with heritage. Ultimately, folks with more money than sense buy their watches at the prices they charge so Nick and Giles English, the co-founders of the brand have no reason to market their watches at more realistic prices. I guess why would they whilst they continue to find fools willing to part with their money for watches that are neither extra special or iconic.

I would agree, but then again, other brands like Patek Philippe, AP and Rolex do the same. You can say brand name, heritage, materials, hand crafted worksmanship, luxury etc. But, realistically speaking, no watch is worth that price. It's at that price only because the rich wants to show off their money. So, if the rich says so, I guess any watch is worth any price as long as people want to pay for it.

Agreed and nobody is being forced to buy these limited edition pieces. The funny thing here is when Bremont eventually have their own in-house movement we'll probably see all manner of silly prices accepted because "in house". There is nothing wrong with using an ETA base. So much can be done to improve it & watch makers well understand problems with particular ETA calibres than can be addressed to improve reliability and durability. Bremont can do more perhaps (Damasko makes some amazing mods for small money) but ETA is actually good from a repair and maintenance perspective.

Federico, not sure about other watch manufacturers but it does take Bremont 2 years to make every single watch, plus the extra detailing into the watch itself, not just the heavily modification but the way Bremont temper their steel, the amount of hide used in their straps etc, plus the pieces they make, generally have some fantastic romance about their background and reasoning for making the watch in the first place. My opinion is this, I have felt brands like Breitling, Tag and Bremont feel far more substantial in the hand, more durable and the quality just oozes from their time pieces.

I own 2 Bremont Kingsman watches and the only reason I bought them at list price is because of the link to the film knowing full well the residuals will be next to nothing. They are nice watches, well made and adequately finished but seriously? They are charging Rolex money for a watch that doesn't have anywhere near Rolex's pedigree or level of design and finishing. Having put this to Giles in person during a marketing event, he just shrugged his shoulders. I applaud that they are trying to put British watchmaking back on the map but until they develop a true in-house movement and lower their prices instead of putting out one 'limited edition' after another, they will not survive. If brands in a lesser price bracket can go in-house, there really isn't any excuse for the prices they charge. To put the value proposition into perspective, you can buy a Tudor with full in house movement for around half the price of some of their models. That's insane and for someone who is looking to buy a luxury watch, it's a no-brainer. Nick & Giles are lovely chaps but fuck me, they are clueless about the realities of their business model.

No, you're not over the top, Federico. I like your reviews because I trust your judgement on watches like this limited edition Bremont. Hate to admit it, but people like me can be fooled by a watchmaker like Bremont. I've actually been eyeing Bremont, of late.
@republic74957 жыл бұрын
You are missing the point, Fed, but you are right in that the British are probably the only ones that will buy it. And why? And why at that price? The watch contains the wood veneer of 4 of the most highly regarded british combat aircraft - a Spitfire, a Hurricane, a Blenheim (all that flew in the Battle of Britain in 1940) and a SE5a (the most predominant fighter in RFC and RAF service in WWI). All these aircraft represent the history of the RAF during times when the country most needed those aircraft, and therefore have significant historical provenance. This means a lot to the British - in many ways, to the British, the Spitfire is seen as the machine that ensured our freedom. So I suspect, British watch collectors are prepared to pay a premium. Also, Bremont limited editions (MB1, the Norton, P51 and the DH88) have a history of being good investments. $11k today could quite easily be $20k in a few years time......
@FedericoTalksWatches7 жыл бұрын
A history of being good investments? I very much disagree... Just because people are asking 20k for and HMS victory watch doesn't mean people are buying them... ebay listings don't mean shit unfortunately...

Fair point, but I've certainly seen various Bremont limited editions in the shops of London pre-owned boutiques asking for a substantial premium. Whether they get them is mute point, but they are definitely getting more than retail.

@republic74957 жыл бұрын
I get that, but you're missing my point. You can argue the relevance of Bremont in horologial history, but they are very canny in marketing a certain British genre. Using original pieces of Spits, Hurricanes etc or HMS Victory in their watches is very evocative to the British. You can put a price on an ETA based movement, but you can't put a price on using elements of the history of a nation.

That's the watch industry in a nutshell. All way overpriced for what you get. The movement means jack shit because you're paying for a compromise as better technologies exist if it's accuracy you're looking for. The most expensive chronographs from the highly self-served Swiss industry are no better than the Bremont. You will all be checking your phone if you really need some accuracy in your life even if you have the most stupidly over priced Rolex on your wrist. The watch today is pure jewelry. A symbol of marketing and wealth and no more. If it feels right and resonates with your inner soul then buy the watch. Personally, buying a swiss watch means nothing to me because of their pent up position of self importance and the way they protect their business from external competition. I can understand why people would want to buy a French, US or British brand in preference. The nautical history of time keeping is clearly nothing to do with the Swiss and most of the original thinking in watch design is British anyway. A Roger Smith watch would be the ultimate in one upmanship I guess but if it's just accurate time you're looking for, then it's probably in the top left hand corner of whatever you're reading this on.
