It used to be a pub called the Gun Tavern, they had a lot of gigs there with bands from all over the world as well as local bands. I went to some good punk gigs there in the 90s. Depressing to see what it looks like now.

If you want a real food experience, never decide to stay in a restaurant that has no costumers. This Mahala place looks more like a tourist trap, of course it's expensive. I doubt many Romanians are eating there. And tripe soup is an acquired taste, if you're not familiar with it, you might even find it disgusting. I know Romanians who can't eat it lol.

looks like you picked a wrong restaurant, Romanian food is very good, as for the tripe soup, tripe is the lining of the cow's stomach and nobody makes better tripe soup than the Czech's, try another restaurant more authentic this time, and if it;s busy food will be good

I'm Romanian and visited about 10 years ago, and it was the same back then, empty, terrible food, and the staff were rude too. I'm honestly surprised it's still in business after all this time. Tripe soup can be delicious when done properly, it’s essentially beef bone broth with sour cream, garlic, and vinegar. Of course, it has the distinct taste of tripe, which not everyone enjoys. In my experience, though, it’s often the texture of the tripe that puts people off more than the flavor. I even know several Romanians who either avoid tripe soup altogether or just drink the broth and leave the tripe behind.

When there is more English than native language it's sign it's focused on tourists. And it's like that in every non-English country. So higher prices than usuall, lower quality, almost no other customers. You can't taste traditional food in there. Basically tourist traps.
