The trouble is doctors often do not give the right information. You can stick to a diet & be exercising & even though you stick with it the weight loss can stop completely dead. What needs to be understood is that for some people their hormonal set up is such that even if they do the diet & exercise the weight loss will not happen. You need to look at ways to change your hormonal set up. Unfortunately this can happen as a result of intense trauma & abuse in childhood. Cortisol blocks fat loss.

When I was in the hospital in the 90s my roommate weighed 600 lbs. She was there because the skin on her legs had split and was infected. She was in so much pain. Her doctor had put her on a diet. But her family would come in every night bringing a family-sized bucket of KFC, which she ate all by herself + a big brown paper grocery bag full of candy bars, snack cakes, & chips.

As a nurse, let me tell you it is INSANE how much food family members bring to patients. I’m not talking about getting someone a sandwich or soup or a *little* junk food every now and then. I mean some families set up a whole pantry’s worth of candy, fast food, sodas, energy drinks, potato chips. It’s almost like some people don’t know how to nurture their loved ones except through food.
@AndreaJones-eh3sdАй бұрын
@@catherinethorstenberg8957that’s insane, wasn’t there anything anyone could do to stop it. I get that hospital food isn’t the greatest but to actively harm the family member by bringing in such rubbish food so blatantly.
@catherinethorstenberg8957Ай бұрын
@@AndreaJones-eh3sd what can you do? It’s not a prison. We can ban visitors from the hospital if they’re posing a serious, direct threat to the patient, like smuggling in drugs (which of course I’ve seen a few times). But in cases where they’re bringing in fried chicken and ice cream to a diabetic patient with a stomach ulcer? It’s bad but not enough for us to restrict them. All we can do is lecture the patient about the doctor’s orders. Some doctors will read the patient the riot act, others will diplomatically say “you do you.” But at the end of the day, patients have to make their own choices
