That happened to me about six months ago. Went through my wardrobe and realized I hadn’t bought much in the last 10 years and, as a 32 year old man, still dressed like a college kid. If there is one piece of advice I could give for rebuilding a wardrobe, it would be having a plan. I lost about 120 lbs, had no clothes that fit, and at the same time in my career, I took a 36 y/o man as far as I could go wearing jeans and band t's. I got my bonus and decided I was going to rebuild my entire wardrobe. The first thing I did was start watching RMRS on KZbin to actually learn what style is. I also can't say enough about the RMRS face book community for learning about style and what works for you. Then I decided my budget. And I decided on $2,500. Once I had a plan, and a budget, I could watch the items I wanted for price and take advantage of sales. In the long run, $2,500 might seem like a lot, but in the 2 years sense I started with that, I've about doubled my annual salary and have moved up 2 positions at work. It obviously wasn't all the clothes that did it, but I had a newfound sense of confidence in myself that has taken me pretty far. The "halo effect" is also very real as I find people generally give me more respect when I look like a boss. All in all, that $2,500 was the best investment in myself I ever made. Custom fitted Navy 3 piece suit (Mens Warehouse$500) Custom fitted Gray 3 piece suit (Men's Warehouse $500) Dark blue 501's (Levi's $50) Black 501's (Levi's $50) 4 custom fitted dress shirts (Light blue, White, White french cuff, Black) (Mens Warehouse $60 each/$240) 2 pairs of chino's (tan and white) ($50 each) Anson belt 3 pack (Brown, Black, Light brown) (silver and gold buckle) ($100) Thursday boots Chukka (black) ($150) Thursday boots Captain (brown) ($200) Thursday boots Monk double monk strap (Brown) $175 Polo's (Black, Gray, Green) ($50 each) Then I put the remaining $250+ into my accessories (never forget the accessories) I've sense added a few pieces, but the combos I've been able to pull from this is like endless.

My first year out I kept wearing my Navy undershirts with blue jeans and black boots. Basically kept dressing as if I was in the Navy but without the camo lol. I didn't even realize it because even though I had some clothing from before I was in, I was just so used to a uniform, my brain defaulted to blue monochrom to replicate our digi's. Still do it from time to time 5 years later.

We definitely need to do better with our appearance.

I just want to look good. I'm Catholic and go to mass every Sunday, and I have always worn a suit. A few things I've noticed is that I feel better, I act better, and people treat me differently. I get compliments often when I go out into public spaces while wearing one of my two suits. Also, people don't just see me, I do not just represent myself. When they see me I do represent myself, but I also represent my family and my faith, my church. So I want to represent well.

For me, 75% of rebuilding my wardrobe was down to finding a brand that fit me correctly. I have a slimmer build with long torso and arms so I always bought a size larger to make it “fit properly.” Problem is I look like I’m swimming in my clothes. A friend recommended I try tall sizes and lo and behold, Medium Talls fit me perfectly. I narrowed it down to two brands: Banana Republic and Eddie Bauer.. BR for more formal and going-out clothes, EB for lounging around the house, the yard, and running quick errands. It is amazing how much more confidence I have just wearing clothes that I know look and fit better.

I'm going with budget cloths while I lose weight because I'm going to be changing sizes again soon. Guides like this really help me zero in on how much of each type of clothing items I need and how to mix and match my sets to maximize my wardrobe for both now and when I reach my goal.

One of my first jobs out of school back in 2019, my then boss told me something that i learned not to just carry in my career, but as my very personal self. He told me “not to sell myself, short.” That’s part of why I choose to have a wardrobe, and make my “uniform.” To carry myself with character, Which would be seen in my wardrobe. Most of the time, Casual button downs combined with boots, and always jeans or chinos. I felt more mature wearing that, and actually feel good in it. Also reflected my office desk job, in the design and construction field of work. To show a sense of my character, and to not sell myself short in life in any field, that is my why.

Over the last year or so, looking in the mirror I can see both the younger me and the future older me coming through in my reflection and I like what I’m seeing. I’m changing up my look from more youthful to more mature but still on trend. I can take the time patiently but looking forward to the ageing me. I want the future me to be and look vital, relevant and on trend. Great videos; please keep them coming! Love from Australia. 👍🏻

Started working at dressing better a few years ago. Sharp casual, business casual was more my style but I can also go full business in a suit if needed. I had realized for unknown reason just gaining about 20 lbs I had been buying more jeans, polos, T-shirt for a while and barely noticed. Many those cloths I never really enjoy wearing that much, but was just easy to throw on without much thought to head to the store, date, movies etc. Still, I know I wasn’t wearing the best of my personal style, always thought about it subconsciously and it bothered me as wasn’t my most confident self as well. So I pruned my entire wardrobe. Also started to exercise more regularly too. With less stuff in my wardrobe I had far less to wear but also less to clog my choice of what to wear. I started improving my wardrobe at first by buying the type of dress trousers I liked to wear. I skipped over chinos and went to more Wool type fabric. Wool can come in different weight fabric wise and some the lighter ones are all season wear. But that’s where I started with good drape fabric wool on the lighter side, fit and in a few standard colors like black, navy, gray, tan or slight shade of. Did have a few more black as it was a color I often wore a lot for variety. But once I had a few solid trousers I took them to tailor as they came unheeded in my waist size, I had them hemmed to my fit in the usual Oxford shoes I wore so they fit well in adjustment. Then I had the option to start buying whatever shirt I liked that also fit with the trousers. Already having a versatility of trouser colors mean it was real easy to get shirts to match any shirt type or color. Mostly buttoned up shirts, knit or knit sweater type shirts. Along the way I added more trousers, more shirts etc. Always taking my trousers for tailoring. But slowly like that I was able to improve my wardrobe. In time I added a few suits, including a few blue shades including navy color. Added some sport coats and in navy color. Shirt Jackets are something I liked, recently added a few and still adding more. Shoes improved s lot with real leather shoes and very much what I wear these days. However, it all takes time! Improving your wardrobe takes a lot of effort slowly over time. And just as much you also have to spend time and effort to take care of your cloth and maintain it all.

I had a combination of reasons five years ago: I became a father and a teacher, and there were some intense developments in my private life. I just didn't want to wear baggy clothes or student-like outfits anymore. In stead, I opted for a classic look. I always liked shirts and blazers, but now I really went for it and even started to wear neck ties. Perhaps it makes me stand out like a dandy, especially since most male teachers simply wear jeans, hoodies and sneakers around here, but I never regretted my choice. (As a side note, it turns out that it inspired some students, and plenty of people apparently like a classic look, but they just don't take the step.)

At first, it was uncomfortable wearing a sports coat/button-down shirt/trousers/ nice shoes, and now it's second nature. I'm slowly building up my wardrobe from my highschool/college days. I majored in criminal justice and specialized in policing and after graduating I was working blue collar jobs to pay the bills while job hunting, so my wardrobe never required any genuine upgrades until now. I'm 26 and was still effectively wearing the same clothes I was when I was 16 and decided I need a change. I started small with just taking care of myself and looking/smelling better to at least have a better building block. From there I have weeding been out shirts and pants that don't fit and are worn out for ones that are better made and more tasteful. The next step is going to be a few more pairs of shoes beyond my 2 pairs of dress shoes and sneakers to be able to dress up what I have a little bit. Around Christmas I'm going to look to getting some new proper trousers and jackets to have a better fitting and just better looking suit. My money and time are tight but I know I look good in black/gray/reds and a more American or hybrid American style is what suits my build. It is not going to be a one and done process but it's so doable if I stay diligent.

I'm not a man, but I do follow men's style channels like yours and GG; I like GG for their classical inspiration and your more modern tips to balance it a bit better. Men's fashion changes slower than women's since it focuses more on function vs form, while women's fashion tends to have it reversed because _WaMaN mUsT lOoK hAwT_ is still too ingrained in culture, and what is "hawt" changes with the season, and nowadays with the week, literally, it's called microtrends and it's awful. The few women's style channels that I follow (that aren't just outright historybounding lol) focus on the same base things you keep pressing: fit is the most important thing in an outfit, and it pays in many different ways to invest in a few well-fitting pieces than a ton of meh- or ill-fitting trash. Female bodies have a lot more variables to take into account when fitting, which makes custom the best option for most women but out of price range for all but a few, especially with the push to fast-fashion to even have a chance to ride the trends. If more people saw their wardrobes as more than just cloth to cover your modesty in public, but as something that can make you look your best and can help you feel your best less people would hate their bodies and themselves.

Have been wearing Anson belts for close to 8 years and I love them. Great product. One tip is leave yourself some slack on the belt before you cut it. The holes where you synch the buckle to the leather sometimes wears out and you need to make new holes. You’ll probably do this once every 2-3 years (depending on use).

i get the premise of interchangeability, but in the past i didn't care for the practice. for me, i liked having a pair of jeans, pants or shorts that i could wear wear with at most 2 shirts, maybe 3 if it was the favorite pair. granted at one point in time, i had around to 20 pairs of pants/jeans and 20 or so pairs of shorts. i suppose it also had to do with the idea of less thinking, having already established solid outfit choices. the same applied to which belt would adorn each outfit. as i rebuild some of my wardrobe, i find myself falling into the same practice. i say do what works for you and your budget!

Spend money on outerwear, decent money on footwear, and some accessories that get used regularly are worth splurging on The key on the rest is to “solve” the problem of what to buy Utilize free returns to find out what size shirts, blazers etc you wear. Then set an alert to buy the brand/model and size that you want. If you’re comfortable with being preowned then even better. This way you don’t really have to think about it. For example - I like size XL sunspel riviera polos in the summer. So when I see one on sale I buy it because I know it’ll be easy to fit into my wardrobe. Same with Arcteryx skyline long sleeves for outdoor activities One thing I solved for pretty easily are pants - I just have one pair of dress pants from Outlier. I can wash them and they’re dry overnight or even dry enough in a few hours. I realized that blue colors work for me, so I wear blue up top generally and have these grey pants for dressier occasions. My summer pants are also outlier - the ability to easy launder them and not worry about holes/fading/etc is a huge deal for me especially with kids. For winter I have one pair of black heavier outliers that look like jeans but perform like the nylon pants they are Blazers I found my company and size I prefer and buy them whenever they’re on sale. Easy peasy Shoes can be tough but the same rules apply. You can “solve” for them with relatively low risk. Brands like Allen Edmonds are plentiful on eBay Poshmark etc. If you have an idea of your size, buy a few pairs (most brands have many different lasts for the same category of shoes, I.e. they’ll have 3-5 different fit penny loafers). If they don’t fit, resell them at a slight loss. I’m pretty well settled into my routine and don’t have to think about what I wear every day anymore, no matter the occasion. It’s liberating. Budget maybe $500 for returns and resell fees as part of this process. Then you’re on autopilot

It might sound crazy but the reason I’m rebuilding my wardrobe is all the reasons you mentioned. My divorce was finalized a few months ago, I dropped 35lbs of fat and gained 15lbs of muscle. I just got out the army and looking to go to school for cybersecurity, and I feel like I’m in a rut cause it feels like I’m essentially starting over from scratch. I love your videos and definitely help change the way I dress and think about dressing like a man so thank you 🙏🏼

Don't look to get married again because love, loyalty, family, and respect, are all now almost extinct. Look what marriage got you. Not worth it. I wish you happiness but we also need to be realistic and adapt. Most of us are much happier without someone that's just in a relationship to have their bills paid and not work.

I'm about to graduate law school and am taking the Bar next July. I'm going to need more professional clothing. I also have an autoimmune condition that prevented me from keeping on weight and building muscle; I finally have it under control. I'm going to the gym regularly now and am starting to build my form now. So, I have a lot of reason to redo my wardrobe around that time as both career and fitness comes to fruition.

Great video, I mean really. My reason are a combination of #2 and #3. 9:14 I started watching these videos with the idea of updating my foot wear. A lot of my shoes are worn or I just don't wear anymore. I need to replace the worn out shoes and toss what I'm not using. So i started with your boot video and been working my way through misc videos.

I really need to change up everything, not just my wardrobe. I suffer from anxiety and depression and over the years I guess I've just become comfortable in what I've always had. I've worked a lot on myself over the last 4 years but feel, after watching your video, that people may be tip toeing around me as I always seem to be wearing the same clothes and they probably think I'm a bit down again. I feel pretty good right now but I know I need to change my look a bit so people won't be avoiding me.

I just moved back to Illinois from New Mexico. I've changed jobs as well, leaving the medical field to go back to freelance A/V work. I also recently entered my 30's and decided to embrace my balding and shave my head. I have to do a complete overhaul of my wardrobe. While I was in NM I became more of an outdoor person and my clothing was based around practicality in heat while hiking and rock climbing. I've lived in IL for most of my life, and we are less than a month away from 30 degree and less temps. But thankfully I kept all of my jackets and coats. Pants are set for now, though I only have one pair of actually blue jeans, so I may tone down the greens and browns I've bought and get another pair of indigo jeans. Shirts are the main issues. My wife insists I stop wearing mediums because they don't fit, but large shirts are too bulky. I'm 6'3 at 205, very long torso and arms, so finding shirts that fit is virtually impossible, and I only kept 5 shirts, 3 sweaters, and 4 dress shirts. I may switch to just long sleeve button ups and get them tailored. I still fit in my formal attire so I'm good there. But the hardest part now is going from scrubs daily to actual clothing. But I'm not too worried because Antonio has impeccable timing with his videos that cover exactly what I need help with at the time. Case in point today.

I’m going through a new chapter if my life. Unfortunately, it’s one I have to grin and bear. After being away from / estranged from my family for 20+ years I moved back to be with them because everyone is getting sick and dying. I got rid of most my East Cost NYC things packed a single van made the move. I have old clothes I left behind 20+ years ago back in CA mixed with the few things I brought with me. But I had to start with a new/different job. I was doing what you said, but hadn’t formalized the approach. My main objective now is to reinvent myself again. Get rid of as much as I can - in stages. But I can’t afford the quality of brands I had before so I’m buying used from eBay. I don’t like buying from clothing discounters unless I have to. My new brands so far are Jim Thompson and Hermes ties, Mr. Freedom (like) shirts etc. and French Connection, All Saints and Bullock and Jones. Formal / rebel / street. I’ve had about 4 major changes in my life and expect to have one or two more so don’t want to build a big wardrobe. The focus going forward is on taste, creativity and flexibility.

Thanks Antonio, your style videos really help me. I already have sticked to Athlisure and casual for my style, but one thing that still remains is what can I do to dressing my age? I am 24 and living on my own and working for two restaurants and a bistro inside a hotel. So here is where I stand with dressing my age: For working at the two restaurants I’m wearing medium to dark wash jeans with just a plain black shirt with black work noun slip shoes. And when working in the bistro at the hotel I’m wearing from light blue to brownish red pants with the work shirt and a black belt with a business black noun slip work shoe. So when I am not working I devote to wearing shorts like casual shorts with plain colored shirts or shirts with logos I have them, but I have fix that to wearing shorts like American Eagle shorts with plain colored shirts. I know this is all complicated I need your help. Thanks again I appreciate your style videos Max Moore

Started the change with the proverb "Dress for the job you want, not the job you have". Now I have the job, and I didn't need to scramble to meet the new dress code. What I didn't expect was how much changing the wardrobe changed the day to day frame of mind. No clue if it's psychologically the act of making the change or just being in different clothes, but it has been a noticeable change for the better.

Well I joined a business school ( sales department:because I am worst at sales ) and this is coed education unlike my undergrad college , so i found it is easier to network with people if they have a positive view of you, so I am learning for the past 3 months about my season( dark autumn) and colors that look good on me and what they match with, I started buying tshirts of the recommended colors ( as they are cheaper than dress shirts) to increase by understanding of color combinations.

I’m renovating my wardrobe because I’m 15 (yeah I’m young and in high school lol) and realized that I hate how I look and dress and wanted to feel better about myself. Prior to this, I’ve had sports and athletic wear as my casual wear, and now I realize that it’s only really good for when I work out. I wanted to make an upgrade but I’m still young so I don’t need too many items and want to buy cheap but quality. I’m building that now and it’s definitely a wip, but I’m off to a good first step! I appreciate your videos, they really help me realize what I need to do even if I won’t be dressing for the same purpose and the same as you and most your viewers, so thank you!

My why, my what, my drive is that I am now 25. There were a lot of constraints put on my ability to socialize as a minor, I became demotivated when it came to doing practically anything. I hit 24 looked at my life and said that I wasn't happy. I bought a gym membership (which I twice weekly), calculated a weekly visit to a mildly popular local restaurant, and searched for a proper men's clothing stylist in my area. There were a lot of duds in that last one, but I have my wardrobe helper now. I understand some of the skills and details I need to look for when grabbing clothes, but I still lean on them twice a year to do a recheck. To other guys that were shut-ins, either willingly or forced, you CAN get out! A sound soul dwells within a sound mind and body. Get out into nature, absorb a better environment. Go to the gym, get a trainer and pop in when you get that urge! Feeling the need to stretch your legs? Run, run around the exterior of your apartment block or duplex! Just do it!

I'm currently in process of losing about 100+ lbs, currently down from 310 to 280. When I hit 200ish and below I'll be in dire need of a rebuild, and when I do I want to step away from graphic tees and sloppy jeans and elevate my style. Its hard for a very heavyset man to dress well and look great as far as I can tell so the weight loss is actually the first steps on my journey. There was a time in my life where I was definitely a bit higher on the style chart and I want to get back to that look. To be frank it just feels better.

I'm 34, having recently gone through a break up that leveled me to the ground and destroyed all of my aspirations and plans. Have been working on my physique, my health, and my psychology in dealing and understanding myself on a very deep level. I decided that it is time to start looking how I feel I am on the inside, and looking at my wardrobe, the band shirts, cartoon designs and crazy ornamental patterns will not cut it. I have to reflect who I am, who I want to be and look the part for the partner that I want to have as well. So here we are now.
