Sadly there are so few shops in London that take leather seriously anymore, just many that sell knock off leathers by people after a buck and pushing you to buy. As a result you don't get to try jackets on in shops and get a feel for them. Ordering on line and hoping that if fits is just not the same 😭.

A good video, but actually aviator jackets don’t necessarily have the elastic band. Especially German jackets of these kind have no elastic stripe. A good way to see this is at noble company house Ulm. A German Store that makes reconstructions of aviator jackets of Germany but Britain and America too

The classic red James Dean jacket is actually a herrington made of nylon. He did wear a Schott leather jackets based on a highway patrol jacket tho. However it has a very big collar which is quite utilitarian and maybe not really that good of a fashion statement.

Sweet, you've learned that leather armour isn't really true armour. Only hardened and treated leather is and that only provides mild protection. Nice to see the taking of new information onboard in action. If you're curious, a type of armour called a brigandine was often leather (though not required, using leather was more status and style), the protection was provided by metal plates riveted to the underside. This is what the concept of "studded leather armour" comes from. As someone uninformed would just see leather and rivets, not knowing the rivets were holding the metal plates.

What about maintaining leather? I’ve got a decent denim and a vintage ww2 jacket but both usually need a wash after wearing. I’m from the Gold Coast in Australia so it can get pretty hot here, and I find I over heat if I do too much even in the denim jacket and then get sweaty. That isn’t really a problem since I can wash it but, how are you meant to keep a leather jacket form collecting BO and needing to have it cleaned a lot?
