Long story short: She is a slow but skilled worker and her jackets have a slight downward curve when viewed from the side. Longer in the front and shorter in the back. Also you get a custom embroidered patch on inside. Everything else is standard jacket work.

@@hottotty13 How thick is it, and how’s the grain? That usually gives a rough idea on the leather. I never had Buffalo, but my favourite is horsehide then cow. Lamb is definitely my least favourite, sure it’s subtle to touch but way too “fragile”, this is one of the reasons you won’t see them on footwear.

People who complain about how much it is are missing the point. The old saying is so true: cynics know the price of everything and the value of nothing. She’s a craftsman. Pure and simple. Probably not the friendliest - who cares. Her intensity and the work it produces speak for itself. Could I afford one of her jackets? Not easily. But I don’t have to be able to own a piece of art to appreciate it - not only the piece itself but the skill and passion that authored it. I love that she cares deeply about her vocation.

I'm in leather, this is what I do. She does personal tailoring which is nice to have but I saw nothing remarkable about the materials or techniques. A truly high quality jacket will have moulded elements, not just sewn, to better contour around parts of the body. Machine embroidering the 'personal touch' made me physically wince. Great PR / Marketing video though. Wonder who you gotta (..) at Bloomberg to get one?

Would a tailor be able to add a silk lining to a leather jacket? or would I have to look for someone who specializes in leatherwork? I've never seen details like that and didn't know they existed. Perhaps for someone who works in the industry (such as yourself) it's not that exciting but I thought that silk lining and the embroidered flower is a cool feature (obviously not worth 5k).

Yeah I had a tailor made (Michael Jackson knock-off) leather jacket made back in the 1980s and it included all the features (minus the 24k gold hot-stamp) she mentioned. The biggest difference I noticed from an off-the-rack Michael Jackson knock off was (obviously the fit, but also) how much softer and more flexible the leather of the tailor made jacket was.

An appreciation for hand crafted leather goods is hard to come by, most people would pass this off as crazy because they can get one cheaper. But you will never be able to make your own leather jacket of this quality on your own. No matter the price, if you can find people who appreciate your work and support it, that's a beautiful thing for everyone involved.

True but she is an artist that makes jackets. A rich person is paying for the experience of having her make the jacket. She says she only makes 4 jackets a month so that raises the price. The best materials and leather to make the jacket in the US wouldn’t cost more than $500. Of course the jacket maker has to spend many hours making the jacket. Here in New York City it’s usually done for about $1000-$1500.
