These dragons do a good job of looking very dragon while also not looking like any dragon ive seen, other than the upper sizes they are also rather grounded creatures. I also do like Kaimere's more fantasy aspects as they are on the more grounded side yet still feel mysterious and magical as if the branch of science is still in its infancy.

@@TalesofKaimere Yeah the fact much of the world is basically a mystery helps too, I mean the highly landlocked areas with no water access and great distance from the assembly or especially isolated islands are bound to have some weird stuff. Our isolated areas have things like blue tarantulas that live in colonies as well as caring for and feeding their young or a population of seals that are somehow about as far away from the ocean as is possible and we dont know how they got there. If earth has these then this land has some weird things id imagine.

In stories with dragon riders I have always viewed dragons almost as weapons of mass destruction. In a situation like this where they are available for those ambitious or stupid enough to seek them, somebody will inevitably succeed in bonding with one. Depending on who that is, the islands could have a new hero or a tyrant. Regardless, the riders return would absolutely have impacts on Kaimere as a whole

I must say, I absolutely adore the basal therapsid/synapsid take in your dragons! I've felt before that the ears, fur, and horns of many Medieval dragon designs would make them more aligned to synapsids than reptiles, and these derived therocephalians take the cake for me as the most unique spec evo dragons I've seen yet! I'd definitely want to be a dragon rider with these guys (maybe a tricolor or dun morph).

I watched the Permian Island video before this one, it was a good decision. Overall, an amazing revisit to these great non dinosaur predators. Truely a great take on a common fantasy element made in a realistic manner. I do wonder though if there were any attempts by the old Dragon Rider dynasty that ruled the islands to use boats to help carry them off the island. Akin to what munarak did with Paleoloxodon. Also shame what happened with Tamale, if it had been done with a younger dragon it may have ended better.. 2024 Year of the Dragon seems like a great new year for Kaimere.

There are no records of them expanding beyond the islands. Though they did have seaworthy ships and were in contact with the predecessors of the Great Library, it seems there wasn't initiative to expand beyond their territory, perhaps due to the high demands of their dragons preventing such a voyage. Getting to the known world could take 6 months to a year by ship, and that's a LOT of food you would need to have on reserve for even one war dragon.

That was a really good episode and dive into the biology and ecology of one of the most iconic, despite being very far from the Known World unlike most of the others famous kaimeran incons, creature of Tales of Kaimere ! Even better considering your dragons are likely the most realistic and pausible over all the ones ever imagined by people even with a real-scientific base. And also because Kaimeran Dragons fit most if not all the things that a dragon need to be to be regarded as such. 1 - They have 4 limbs, including 2 wings and 2 tails (making it more precisely Wyverns, which it nice and good to have this category of (true) dragons in the front of the scene with great awesomeness and having the star, since this specific kind is undeservedly mocked by people), as all Tetrapods should have. 2 - Are more or less a kind of reptiles (or which came the closer to them) than any others animals on Earth or Kaimere which reach the same appearance (Pterosaurs of course must be regarded as a kind of dragons by kaimeran but don't breath venom/"fire". And the First Dragons from the First Dynasty era aren't tetrapods and reptiles at all). 3 - And breath a fire-like element that they use to kill or defend themselves. Kaimeran Dragons fit these 3 points to be considered as real and true dragons and as a plausible and realistic animals as biology can do within its realm of possibility ! Which I think is what made a good part of their popularity and charisma among people.

Prefect choice for the year of the dragon.Sidenote I know the bred bulls have air sacks and hollow bones but I still feel it's too big to fly.I might be wrong tho.I'm also designing my own dragon and like yours mine are not the usual choice, shuotheriidae is the family they're part of.Also is the thumbnail a piece for the novel and question how heavy could the dragons get without air sacks and hollow bones.

Minor clarification: it was probably not breeding them to have air sacs, but incorporating anatomy-altering magic. But yes certainly too large to fly without special breeding and enhancements. There's good reason the largest domesticates died off quick, and it wasn't just that they couldn't find enough food. I don't want to state too many of the reasons why as the Assembly doesn't know and I am trying to stick to their knowledge, but there's a bit more at play than I've said in this episode

Dragons got almost nothing on a full grown titan, I’d be surprised if the venom did much given their size and archosaurian decent. They are just simply to big for the dragon to actually harm with teeth and fang. Since dragons are capable of flight means they have to be lightweight. An Uktan at full size can weigh over 8 tons, don’t think it is really much of a fight here.

Imagine the agriculture you'd need to support a fleet of war dragons. And with the limited arable land on an island chain, I wouldn't be surprised if the dragon riding dynasty had an iron grip on land usage. A good reason to overthrow them, if you're a farmer.

That is a rather acute observation. Seems like they had a clamp on just about everything in their society. Given Tamale’s behavior, there appears to be an unknown factor in keeping the dragons tame. Wouldn’t be surprised if the secret getting out was apart of their downfall, only to be forgotten after everything fell apart.

Spectacular episode. I have to admit, Kaimere's Dragons are definitely the most terrifying of beasts, right after the Moørkutlot. And of course humans have to, once again, mess up royally! But the one question I have is.... What if, and this is a Huge one, what if they traveled to the Polar continent? Would they thrive or would they die of starvation?

But also, one of the questions that makes me wonder if they managed to travel to other lands, the Theropods and the Bokudo wouldn't cause their extinction? Then again, I find the fact they're restricted in the archipelago is the best outcome to be totally honest. As this beast combined all the worst traits and most destructive potential of all the dangers of Kaimere. So yeah. But it also makes me wonder if there exist any monstrously sized Marine Therapsid? Then again, Kaimere is one amazing project with a lot of questions and mysteries that surrounds it and makes our imagination run wild.

And Dragons are the second most terrifying animal, for they can both fly and spit a deadly venom.... Then the Theropods and the Entelodonts. Then again, no matter where it's a very dangerous planet.

I once saw medieval drawings of dragons with mammalian ears and nostrils (even crocodiles were drawn this way). And also in a 17th-century Polish book, in a fragment about the fauna of Africa, the author described, next to leopards and lions, poisonous furry dragons that hunt elephants and cool their gigantic bodies in rivers and lakes. Of course, this inspired me. And I tried this style of drawing dragons but... it wasn't the best XD. At least at start, now i'm doing little better. I'm glad I can witness such beautiful art in this dark age like style (: And as a man pretty interested in natural world, i can say that you did an exelent work about ecology of this mighty beasts. This was yet another interesting video, but I do have three questions: 1) What is the relationship of the Mud-Bear to the Renzhuyo? Or is it in its own lineage of land-based hyaenodonts? (Never really said last video, so I was left wondering.) 2) Unrelated to this video, now that the Byamdan is a dinomyid, what does this mean for the similar-looking animal found in Kaishel? (Or is it now just a multituberculate that just appears similar through convergent evolution? 3) Assuming the History of Proboscideans of Kaimere video was meant to finally put a concrete time-frame of Post-Dynastic Extinction Harvests (or at least most of them, excluding the Mercantile Age, if it can even be considered as such given its brief occurrence, but could be argued as such considering the amount and types of fauna introduced to Kaimere during this time), my question is that, like with the First Cenozoic South American Harvest, why wasn't there a brief mention for the South Pacific Harvest of 7 million years ago, or was it simply forgotten/removed from canon? (Also, following up on the First Cenozoic South American Harvest, despite the spread of gomphotheres, wouldn't they get hunted by the Terror Birds that arrived through from the First Cenozoic South American Harvest, even for a brief time, considering they went extinct after the harvest? (Also, since Kaimere was mostly a jungle, assuming the northernmost point of the Harvest reached Southern Venezuela, wouldn't Sebecids and Astrapotheres bring some issue to Kaimere's first Gomphotheres, especially considering both were used to jungle as well?) Also, not a question, but some advice: If it helps, maybe a few searches on Wikipedia or something similar could help with explaining animals in future harvest, clade, or "Beyond the Known World" episodes. You know, just so you don't feel like you need to cram so much studying in a short time frame? (Also, speaking of which, while the Ballad of Ka' Hai video was nice, I can't help but feel like it was exhausting to make, and as such, I'm okay if you decided to take a break sometime in the year.) Again, this was an interesting video. Nice to see you improving your video quality with Kaimere, especially with how in-depth many episodes are. (Though, in my opinion, a slightly bigger time-frame between episodes could be helpful in both giving mental breaks and in having more time to study and be able to go more in-depth with topics. Also, you don't have to restrict episodes to a specific time-frame of Tuesdays at 7am PST. If you feel an episode is going to take longer to make or release, then I say that you go ahead and take the time you need. Do not feel pressured to releaseon a specificday at a specific time. Even some other high-quality KZbinrs I know, such as Dr. Polaris and Paleo-nerd, or even high quality non-paleo KZbinrs, such as The Unlucky Tug and Trampy, will admit that they need to delay videos due to circumstances and won't be able to release videos on a set schedule, so in that aspect, it's okay if you want to sometimes as well. Trust me, as a fellow worldbuilder, it is mentally exhausting, and as an author, I can imagine that in your case, it is definitely more so. Again, interesting video, and like the improvements in your videos recently. (Though on that note, personally (and I mean the following WITHOUT sponsorships, as I feel that once the whole planet of Kaimere is covered, rather than returning to locations beyond ths Known World, the rest of your audience will want to look past Kaimere's atmosphere to the stars, whereas people like me who do want more videos on locations in Kaimere woupd be ignored due to sponsors paying for topics), I think some of your past videos could definitely do with a remake of some sort, mainly the early Harvest Videos (except for the two videos explaining the portal, unless you feel that the Whistling Door video and Interrupted Harvest video could be combined together and even updated, since they seemingly cover the height of the First Children before they made Homunculi), some of the early videos on animals found in Kaimere (as they mostly focus on the Known World or still call Kairul the Eastern Continent, or even only focus on modern taxa or only on animals unique to Kaimere), and even the early videos on Kaimerans, as those still call them a separate species from Homo sapiens rather than a subspecies.) Other than that, interesting video, and I'll see you next week for the Gurkan (ngl, very excited for this episode as, next to sauropods, hadrosaurs are some of my favorite herbivorous dinosaurs and some of my favorite dinosaurs in general. Plus, the area between the Known World and Kairul does need to be fleshed out more since we know next to nothing of it besides some rumored relics, the Ushalek forest, and a vague mention of the arid area that goes across the equator and connects Kairul to Ni'khar).

Well where there be dragons there be dragon hunters. A light story on a possible dragon hunter. There once was a man with a defect that that had a large nose. He was an inventive person who had a decent knowledge of venom. One day after a dragon attack he decided to do something about it. The man built a trap cave big enough for the dragon and made himself the bait. One day a dragon found the man running to the cave an fallowed him inside. The trap was sprung and the beast layed slain do to a spiked pit trap and low spike ceiling. The animal had unleashed the venom but due to primative fansfunneling it out the carved chimnies at the back on the cave.

A couple of rewrites here. The cave was originally a grain and spice storage. The man had replaced the grain with chaff and dust along with spears hidden within the piles. The dragon chased him in and spiked itself while running over the grain kicking up dust and chaff. Meanwhile the meal on legs laughed out the small back entrance, emptied a bag of dust, threw a blazing torch in, and sealed the exit. The torch ignited the dust and chaff. The beast started to burn but along with the chaff was a mix of powders that made it hard to breathe. The back door then opened sealing its fate for the air fed the flames like bellows in a forge.

I really like your dragons and I would like to ask if you took inspiration from Michael Moorcock's work Elric of Melnibone in designing them. As your dragons shows alot of similarities to Moorcock's interpretation of dragons; ie large tusk protrusion, spraying corrosive venom and are connected to a civilization of witch kings.

How were wild dragons able to obtain large pterosaur sizes despite not having air sacs and hollow bones? The largest synapsids with powered flight are bats which just grew wingspans between 5 and 6 ft at biggest (even though they have different body proportions from therocephalian dragons).

My assumption is they have been modified significantly by the Witch Kings. They can use all four of their limbs unlike birds, which is helpful for take off. I’m kind of spit balling here, but I would think the large individuals inherited some of the magic size enhancements from the witch kings, and magic is someway involved in getting their 3 ton weight off the ground. Nothing extreme by magic standards, but flying animals don’t normally reach a ton in weight, let alone 4. The wild ancestors were probably about as big they would get on their own while staying robust.

@@ryanchen1819I’d imagine it would have to do with the fact that they can use all fours like pterosaurs, meaning they have a higher weight threshold than birds. In terms of bats, I’d say it has more to do with the fact that birds haven’t given bats enough of an opening to grow large rather than an inherent problem with the synapsid body plan. Also keep in mind these are not Cynodont decedents like bats.

I wasn't really a fan of the idea at first (seemed a bit too much like a fantasy specification), but your way of developing and enriching these "dragons" not only biologically and ethologically but also historically still manage to make them feel real for me Other than that, I had a few questions that didn't receive a response some while ago so I thought I'd ask them again now that some time has passed: I don't know if you already elaborated on that, but is there an explanation for how magic developed such a peculiar way of enriching and diversifying its environment? And how are they able to survive and endure long travels into space? Why did they "choose" to walk down that path instead of, for instance, evolving into more complex lifeforms (multicellular organisms or protozoan colonies - even though I know there are such lifeforms in Kaishel, my question is why did they let down that path on a worldwide scale?)

I considered it but didn’t have time. I worked it into the dicynodonts. Some dragons have brighter colors which Shiny Gander captured well, but at the end of the day their ancestors were grey predators so not as playful a palate as some Eborfeltheria I’d like to make

Until this episode I didn't fully appreciate how well designed the dragons are. Their ontogeny really does reflect that they're part of the roo hog branch and the concept of an entire species of domesticated man-eaters that got loose is a very original take. 1. Are cynodont herbivores a new thing? If so, are they similar to our mammalian herbivores like deer or more out there? 2. Did the witch kings elevate dragons to sophonce during their time? 3. What does halifel signify in their species name? 4. I don't believe you've ever elaborated on exactly how it affects archosaurs. If a Stallion Bird or a Sloth Croc took a full blast, what exactly would happen to them?

Thank you! While there are certainly wild man-eaters, most wolves being responsible for wolf attacks being at least part dog was a pretty big inspiration there. An animal with very predatory instincts mixed with something comfortable around people seemed the perfect recipe for a species with many notorious man-eaters. 1. It was a concept I had for the Permian Island episode but I didn't get a chance to draw them, and unfortunately I didn't have an opportunity here either. They won't be as derived as deer, but one species is probably going to be the mounted domesticates I described in the short story. Might have those be eborfeltherians though. Still got to work all that out. 2. Only through the mental connections to their riders. Feral dragon intelligence is more comparable to a very intelligent dog. Still very smart, just not sapient. 3. Honestly I don't recall. Was before I started writing down the translations. Probably has Latin or Ancient Greek roots but it's an old name from five or six years ago and I don't remember the translation. 4. There's a degree of mild corrosiveness that would impact them, and while it might blind or impair vision, it's not going to be particularly debilitating

Independently. On Earth, dragons are imagined embellishments of snakes and crocodiles. These dragons didn't influence Earth mythology aside from possible stories of the vanyu being passed along by Free-States merchants

Yes, especially in the south most dragons aren't much larger than their wild ancestors. As I mentioned, there's definitely an advantage to large size so it is selected for especially in males, yet the smaller ones need a lot less food.

Where the Titans Crows that inhabited the Island any different from the Arvelith Species? I wound not be surprised if they used a significant amount of magic to modify the Therapsid body plan to be able to lift over 4 tons off the ground, let alone 10 (although their is no guarantee they actually flew given all we have are the bones). While not as proficient as the first children, they may have found ways to make them lighter than they could probably adapt themselves. I’ve recently got a hold of your books, my favorite is probably Trickster’s Gambit, followed closely by Grandmother’s Roots and Tempered In Ash And Blood. Sprint of the Sea Snake and the dragon rider story have me excited for your third.

Dinosaurs didn't evolve into dragons because they want to became birds, if Therapsids was given a chance to fly, they will fly as a dragon, even it is heavy like an stone, it's muscle and endurance will make it fly.
