After Melkor learned of the awakening of men, he left the command of Angband to Sauron and went among men. His manipulation of the phenomenon of death, that it was a curse, not a gift given to men by Eru, was the first downfall of the human race. Those who believed in this were known as the "Men of Darkness". The Edain (Men of Light) who did not believe in this, developed a desire for immortality, believing that this death was given to them by Melkor (as would later be seen more deeply in Númenor), and this was an act that served Melkor's will. The manipulation of the phenomenon of death was a blemish left on men by Melkor.

There’s yet no movie adaptation of The Silmarillion, but in the meantime we are gifted with Realms Unraveled, and that’s enough…

You should do books on tape. Do you? Cause I'd listen to them, especially if you wrote them.

I have actually previously had a number 2 Amazon best seller in a completely unrelated genre. I have dabbled in some fantasy writing and I have a couple of ideas which I am playing around with but nothing substantial yet I'm afraid. I appreciate the vote of confidence though and if I do release anything I would definitely let my subscribers know 🙂

This map in the video is not accurate during the Awakening of Elves at Cuiviénen, Sea of Helcar. This landlocked sea or lake was ginormous, stretching from east to west. The world had drastically changed whenever conflict arose between the Valars and Melkor. The resulting aftermath had devastating effects that altered the landscapes. The Battle of the Powers is a major shift in which Middle-earth once again reshaped, even though concentrated on the North. It is thought that the Sea of Helcar had shrunken by the time of the Awakening of Men. To be fair, Tolkien in his lifetime often changed his notes when it came to specific characters, backgrounds, locations, and lore. The Sea of Rhûn was thought to be part of the Sea of Helcar but this was revealed that the former have always existed alongside the latter at the beginning. It is mentioned that the Elves passed through the Sea of Rhûn as they were traveling up north just above the Sea of Helcar.

This information has long eluded me. Thank you for sharing. If I might make a request for a future video similar to this. Could you share what you know of the lands to the south where oliphaunts dwell and where and when and how the ancestors of the fathers of the fathers of hobbits may have encountered them. They made such an impression that the lines Samwise recites about the oliphaunts survive into the third age.

Philosophically, Eru is so neglectful of his creation that is borderline evil. Allowing the equivalent of satan himself to have exclusive access to all of humanity , allow him to manifest full divine powers and leave it as such for several generations. That's not free will at all and punishing anyone for it is cruelty in itself.

Yeah yeah the elves were terrified of the Vala too. Let's be honest, they abandoned men to their own devices. Which is why men turned out to be assholes, mostly.

So it shows the map which features the land of Palisor, but no mention of the terrible battle that took place there?

I actually prefer the version of tolkiens later and final writing that man woke up much much earlier and sun and moon existed at the same time as the trees of Valinor. The main difference being that valinor was sheltered from the sunlight since the light of the trees were holy and not marred unlike the light of the sun and moon. It just makes much more sense and inuniverse is probably the real history and the story we have in the silmarillion is rather a myth . Makes more sense to the timeline population and creation of the Orks.

Interestingly, the gift-bringing figure (which reminds me a lot of the Annatar) would be after the time when Melkor could no longer change forms. Then I remember that Sauron (the bringer of gifts) could modify his physical form and present himself with a beautiful appearance. Furthermore, the Maia was able to transform into a snake (Serpent) as well. Could this be a hint that Sauron caused the fall of Humanity?

Hi yes everything on the channel is taken from the books but many of the books are from the wider legendarium and not just the hobbit and LotR. There are references beneath the quotes throughout the video which tell you the names of the relevant books if you're interested 🙂
