Great video. Something that people sometimes confuse is that the "Nameless one" that the people of Gondor call Sauron is not out of fear. It is a defiance. Unwilling to give Sauron the luxury of having a name. Names are hugely important in Tolkien works. Many know the descriptive aspect of them but I think it goes beyond that. It is a sense of identity. Remember when Bombadil tells Frodo "Don't you know my name yet? That's the only answer. Tell me, who are you alone yourself and nameless"

Tolkien was very well read, he read many of the mythologies and stories of the ancient world. It’s why he wrote the middle earth stuff as though it was a historical tale he discovered, both to give the impression that this was written thousands of years ago and in reference to some authors of the ancient world. The best way to learn to write a believable world is to learn about our own and to read as much as you can, that’s the advice I think he’d give you

While Melkor was the first and most powerful being to fall, Sauron's influence was longer-lasting and perhaps more complex. Tolkien himself said that Sauron was only less in that he once served another, but Sauron was instrumental in carrying out a lot of Melkor's plans, and ensured there would be bands of men who worshipped Melkor into the 4th Age following the events of the War of the Ring.

I'd love to know more about what dark arts Sauron got up time when he was known as the "Necromancer". As pointed out in this vid, it seems that title was given to him and not self appointed, while this unknown dark sorcerer resided in the old fortress. In the movie, which is all I have to go on, we see wraiths of old vanquished and banished evil souls attack Gandalf and others when they explore the old ruins along with giant spiders and suggestions of other evil creatures appearing in the forest near the fort, so I'm sure there's a very interesting tale about how Sauron earned the name Necromancer which is typically associated with those that can reanimate the dead, summon evil spirits and that whole association with things that are dead being brought under their control to do their bidding etc which would surely have had some really creepy tales about those that ventured too close to the old fort, never to be seen again, terrifying screams in the dark, horrible mutilated shapes creeping around in the shadows. Yes, I think this part of Saurons existence would be a very interesting one indeed!
