I live in Kentucky, there is a Toyota manufacturing Plant on the outskirts of Georgetown. Toyota built the industrial maintenance school for kctcs community college in the region. Today I learned that every one minute the main manufacturing line shuts down Toyota loses 125,000$. If you can be the technician who fixes the problem in 5 minutes oppose to 10, your a half million dollar man(or woman).

I would love to register with you guys and learn control systems and industrial automation but the only problem i have is finance, the annual fee is 25 dollars, this is like a bargain and very cheap compared to the abundant knowledge one could get from enrolling in the course. I want you to tell me how a relay makes soot please. I have never had one make SOOT!
@realparsАй бұрын
Hello, @Foof50. Thank you for your question. Here are a few ways this can happen: Soot accumulation in a relay system can occur through several mechanisms, especially in environments where combustion processes are involved. Here are a few ways this can happen: Combustion Sources: If the relay system is near engines, boilers, or other combustion sources, exhaust gases can contain soot. Over time, these particles can settle on surfaces within the relay system. Electrical Arcing: In electrical relays, arcing can occur when contacts open or close. This can generate heat and lead to the burning of surrounding materials, creating soot that may accumulate on the relay contacts and insulators. Environmental Factors: Dust and particulates in the surrounding environment can mix with combustion products, leading to a thicker accumulation of soot, especially in industrial settings. Inadequate Ventilation: Poor airflow around the relay can trap soot and other contaminants, allowing them to build up over time. Degradation of Materials: Some materials used in relay systems might degrade under heat or electrical stress, releasing carbon compounds that can contribute to soot formation. Regular maintenance and cleaning can help prevent soot buildup and ensure the reliable operation of relay systems.

Could you please recommend any reliable public source or Scopus paper with the classification of different controllers? I am confused with semantic and there is no source that explains things better. PS Extra stupid questions: 1. how is a 3-stage controller for controlling fan-speed called? Fuzzy logic controller? 2. is on/off control fuzzy controller? 3. Is a 3-stage room thermostat that defines the speed of the air conditioner fan a relay panel with fuzzy logic? or is it a tiny PLC with fuzzy logic? or is it a discrete controller? 4. Why are the usually 3-stage? Why do people not use sparsely modulating controllers? or dimmer controller?
@realpars4 жыл бұрын
Fuzzy logic is essentially a method for calculating controller outputs from controller inputs. PID does the same bit in a different way. 3-stage fan control can easily be accomplished with fuzzy logic. 3-stage control for ventilation is common but is somewhat misunderstood. 3-Stage control usually means the controller controls three fans: 1 fixed-speed gan and 2 variable-speed fans. This can be done with special fit-for-purpose controllers, a fuzzy logic controller either standalone or with a PLC, or just a PLC or DCS. The single-speed fan is controlled in an on/off manner, but the variable-speed fans are controlled to provide a certain airflow or maintain a certain temperature.

@realpars2 жыл бұрын
An obsolete PLC is one that is no longer supported by the manufacturer (it was discontinued in 2017). For instance, the S7-200 PLC from Siemens is obsolete, although many are still installed and running in plants. If the CPU fails, a newer model will need to be installed in its place. Some spare parts may still be available, but after October 2023, Siemens will retire the entire S7-200 product line.

how is this different with industrial component of arduino?
@realpars5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jastria, The Arduino is a collection of the modular electronic boards that you can make different nice stuff with them but I believe these stuff are not supposed to use in industry. The other difference I think is the language which you can write codes with that. Writing codes with C language need more specialty while writing your software using Ladder programming language is far easier and less time-consuming. I think the differences are not limited to these, however.

The PLC processor simply holds the program which executes the logic. To control 110VAC devices, you will need to make sure your I/O cards that are connected to the PLC can support 110VAC. For digital outputs, you can use a relay card as well.

Why not use a tablet as the controller with a program installed and running? Then the only reason to plug in a computer would be to upgrade program/software or to download information. I'm pretty sure a tablet has more capabilities than a plc and probably cheaper too. Regardless, you would still need to use relays or contactors.
@realpars5 жыл бұрын
Tablets are definitely good computing devices, but they lack the capability for connecting to process I/O efficiently and are based on operating systems not meant for 24/7 continuous operation. Tablets are popular for HMI applications, but are just now getting powerful enough to run applications like SoftPLC's. Connectivity to I/O is a major issue with tablets, since they have limited interfaces. There are many manufacturers that have very powerful PLC's for less than the price of a Surface Pro. I think the day for using less-expensive computing devices in process control is coming, but we are not there yet.
