I work on boilers for a living, and while you generally have mechanics right (with the exception of the water tube boilers also having a mud drum and steam drum), fire tube boilers are also very common for high pressure steam systems (high pressure steam is 15psi and higher, and I’ve typically seen them run at about 100# of steam).

Lucas, thank you for your insights. It is always great to get feedback from those most experienced in the industry. Our lessons are intended for automation engineers getting started in the industry and in order to spark interest in those considering or curious about a career in automation. We focus on the critical aspects of understanding the concepts of automation without delving too deeply into the process or equipment. I think our subscribers will find the additional information that you provided very helpful. Keep watching!

i used to work for a boiler company Jhon Thompson. the most common boilers that companies use are 10ton coal boilers because thay are the cheapest to run but needs a lot of maintenance unlike HFO (oil) and gass burners that are low to no maintenance. burners are more reliable and easy to use unlike coal boilers that need a operator and break down unexpectedly (a lot).

I like the explanation I am interested in knowing how to calculate boiler efficiency?
@realpars5 жыл бұрын
The simple answer is [BTU 's OUT / BTU's IN] x 100%. That may seem easy, but it will require flow, pressure and temperature sensors to measure the quantities that go into determining the energy into and out of the boiler. In more detail: efficiency = [(lbs/hr Steam out x Enthalpy of steam in BTU/lb steam at operating pressure and temperarture) / (natural gas flow in SCFH x BTU/SCF natural gas at flowing pressure)] x 100%.

There are different types of pressure sensors. The mobrey switches are magnetic level switches are one of the types which satisfy boiler code requirements. If your drum water level gets too low and is allowed to remain that low the excess heat would cause a loss of containment and catastrophic failure, so instruments such as the redundant level switches are there to provide a signal that the burner management system can use to bring the boiler to a safe state.
