Real Russia

Күн бұрын

In the first video of 2016 (Vlog 1), I announced that at this year will try to travel more around Russia and show more of the country. There was a plan to start it from a short 3-4 days visit to Moscow, the capital of Russia. Literally, was “sitting on my suitcase” waiting for a good weather to fly to the heart of Russia.
In the same time, already for a half of year I was trying to sell my apartment in the historical city center at Karl Marx Street, Ufa, Russia.
So, last week I’ve got a call from a married couple with two kids. They loved and apartment and agreed to buy it. Once a part of their payment went through the mortgage, we spent a lot of time grabbing a lot of different documents and statements. But it was done.
I have sold an apartment which was the main place of living for me and my family. So once I’ve got a money for it, I hurried up to buy another apartment which will be in the city center of Ufa, Russia as well. Equal by value residential district.
Another reason was my mistrust to the money, no matter if it’s cash (paper) or numbers in your checking account. So I prefer a real estate as something physical. When you have an estate in the center of a big city, it’s more reliable, because even in case of crisis, your real estate will always adapt to the current economical situation and prices.
I have found a great offer - 3-room apartment in a new residential district in the city center of Ufa, Russia at Richard Sorge street.
This is a 3-room apartment with a total area of 94 square meters. Let me remind you that my previous apartment had only 2 rooms and a total area of 60 square meters. So, this apartment is 34 square meters more than previous one. BUT I never paid any extra money in order to increase my living area.
How was that possible? The trick is that I have sold an apartment in a completed residential building located in a completed infrastructure around it, also with an official registration in a Federal Registry of Russia. But the new apartment is in a not fully completed residential building yet. It is finished from the outside, but not yet inside. For this reason, the entrance to the building limited from 8am to 8pm, there not a stable electricity and water. But they let you move your stuff there and start making a maintenance.
For this reason the price for an apartments at this stage is way lower than they will be after it’s ready and approved by the State Commission. This is the only reason how I’ve got a huge discount and got additional 34 square meters for the price I’ve got for 60 square meters.
I moved all my stuff from the previous apartment and stored it in a living room of my new apartment. Now about to start make a maintenance… real Russian maintenance.
I am not rich, so my maintenance is not going to be luxury, I am not going to hire a designer or so. My maintenance will be just an average quality maintenance most of Russians do in their new apartments.
This is going to be a series of episodes about the Real Russian maintenance. I will film it step-by-step depending on how fast I will make it. Will try to show you how it’s going, how it was, what was done, how much money we’ve paid for a stuff (material) and how much for a work of the workers.
Stay tuned and keep watching!

I can understand you didn't care for this person's comment and what was said about the Russian people. Then you turn right around and do exactly what you didn't appreciate. That's pretty hypocritical. Euros LOVE judging the U.S. Don't you have your own demons of past history and quite a few current issues? Yes, why yes you do. A little introspection before you start to point fingers chief.

The room with the balcony should definitely be like the master bedroom and the smaller one your daughter's. Also you can have a stackable washer/dryer and a smaller powder room. One bathroom is tough. Your daughter is growing and she will need her space. But congrats on your new purchase.

Really cool Sergey. It's great that you got a bigger apartment for the same price as the two bedroom one. I am going to miss the other apartment. I loved the view from it. I think the other bathroom can be the wash room, if your machine is not able to fit in the first bathroom. If it does, the second bathroom can be the pantry or something. Room with Balcony, should be yours with your wife. It is interesting seeing the process you go through, to fix this one up. I hope you stay in this one long and not move again for a while, lol.

Pretty building. That's going to be a nice apartment when it's finished. Good layout. I like your idea about expanding the kitchen into the balcony -- that would make a great dining room, with a view! In America we would call that a 2-bedroom 2-bath apartment, with a total of 6 or 7 rooms depending if you count the entryway as a room or not. I guess there you count rooms differently! 2nd bathroom is good place for washing machine, since it has plumbing, yes? or is there enough room in the main bathroom for it to go there? The small balcony would be a good workroom or maybe playroom for your daughter. Also good idea about the neighbor and using the landing area for bicycles and such. Those are radiators on the walls, yes? would be interesting to learn about the building's heating system. Look forward to seeing how you finish your new home. Congrats on making a step up!

+Rez Zircon In Russia we count only living rooms. There is central heating system in Russia. Big heating stations heat all city.
@sapphirecamui6447

+Rez Zircon in romania, a 2 room apartment means it only has 1 bedroom and the living room [not counting hallways, the kitchen, bathroom, or pantry - which may not even exist]. it seems romanians and russians define apartments in an identical way. It's interesting to discover how people in various countries define houses/ apartments based on the no. of rooms that are used for sleeping/ living in. Romanians generally eat in the kitchen, unless there are guests coming over. oh, we also have 1-room apartments: the living room serves as bedroom as well. o.o :D
@realrussiablog
@realrussiablog 8 жыл бұрын
+Rez Zircon As SakhDestr already said, In Russia we really count only actual rooms. Those radiators are near the walls but not on the walls. They are not mounted into it, if you meant that. There enough of space in the main bathroom for all - bath, toilet, sink and washing machine. That's why I think about something else in the "second" bathroom.
@Reziac
@Reziac 8 жыл бұрын
+Sapphire Camui We would call that one-room, no-bedroom apartment a "bachelor apartment". Sometimes they have a Murphy bed (that folds down from the wall), but more often people use a futon as a bed. Americans mostly eat in the kitchen too -- if there is a dining room, it's often only used for special dinners. Tho mine is my computer room. :)
@Reziac
@Reziac 8 жыл бұрын
+SakhDestr Some older cities in U.S. have central heating that handles multiple buildings, but newer apartment buildings usually either have a single heating/cooling system for each building, or individual heaters and air conditioners in each apartment.

+Brent Braniff Yes, at least to me it is a very great apartment. And not only to me. In Russia such an apartment is considered as definitely a big one. For many people it is really better when they buy unfinished apartments because this way they can make it the way they want themselve. With their own design. Jonas... I've met him and his wife Yana in the summer and we had a good evening. Give them my best regards! I believe they will get back to Ufa again, because Yana is originally from Ufa too. Wood in 20 story buildings? Walls in Russian houses are very thick (from 1 to 2 feet depending on materials and location in the country). Every single building has triple or double pane windows. Every entrance has 2 doors to protect warm air from escaping the buildings. Pipes are always underground (except regions with permafrost) at the depth of at least 2 meters (6.5ft). All the buildings have heaters not only inside apartments (or offices/classes/etc. in public buildings) but also on staircases, in entry rooms etc. Also every building always has half-basement to protect the first floor from cold ground, etc. Temperature inside Russian apartments in winter must not lower than +18C or +65F. If it is below +18C, it usually leads to big scandals in local or even federal news. On average, it is about +22-24C (+72-75F). In general, Russian apartments are much warmer than any residential buildings in the Western World. Russians are so used to comfort of their warm houses, that they freeze everywhere except tropics and equatorial areas in winter.

your plan with the kitchen and balcony is a great idea! Im claustrophobic so doing things like that if I was living there would be very helpful. although I might debate between a pantry and a second toilet.

Hi Sergey, Very nice place you have there and I think it has huge potential. I am a little jealous, I would love a project like that for myself. That second space would be a good place to put your washing machine, dryer cleaning stuff and storage for other things you don't want visitors to have to look at. I like the idea of taking out the half wall onto your balcony from the kitchen, and if I was you, I would probably put a set of double width doors into the living area. I am not sure if that is normal in Russia, but here in New Zealand it is trendy for the kitchen to be part of the living space. We did that in the last house we renovated and the Mrs really liked it. She could watch TV while she was cooking. I look forward to seeing the finished apartment! Chris

Sergey I liked this video and hope I can find the videos where you show the progress. That is a large apartment and should be very comfortable...I hope one year later it is going well. This video is of special interest to me because I am a builder and because my wife and I plan to buy in Rostov on Don and I hope to buy like this and then finish it off myself. It is just so interesting the thought of finishing an apartment there in Russia.

If everyone doing the finish work themselves it seems like the remodeling noise could go on for years with one neighbor working then another then another. Very different. Looks cold Sergey, turn on the heat!

In western culture , the word(s) "Decorating" or "interior designing" would be used in place of "Maintenance". That is more used as a description of something like fixing the old broken plumbing. I agree with others that you might really consider a second toilet.You'll be glad later! In the USA, design decisions on a purchased apartment (flat) are less available unless you spend at the high luxury level. Basically, we would just go look at a different building if we did not like the decor, so you have a very good advantage in your current situation! The US also has a huge glut of vacant houses, including new ones, with private yards, and this is where most go who want to determine their own decorating

My mom bought a apartment in Moscow in a "novostroika" in "new moscow" 100 square meters, for 7 million rubles in 2013, it was only finished and keys were given in this past summer, and she immediately started doing "remont" (remodeling/finishing the apartment)it also has a kitchen with a balcony, just like yours and she wanted to remove the wall and door and windows to make a extended kitchen just like you, yet after consulting with the builders she was told she was too late because you can only do that on every other floor of the building, or else the whole building will fold, and the neighbors below us already did that in their kitchen. It was very disappointing to her so I just wanted to warn you to find out if you are allowed to do that and what the requirements are from the company that built the complex, good luck!

use the 2nd bath for a laundry washer and dryer, you may still have room for a 1/2 bath- (toilet and very small sink). even smaller- The Japanese have a toilet with a small sink built in the top of the back of the toilet. Water is fed with a small pipe for washing hands then drains down to the tank for flushing

Fantastic video Sergey! Congratulations to you and your family for getting into a bigger apartment. My fiancée and I are looking for apartments in Tokyo now, and I can tell you that 94m2 is VERY big compared to the average here! What I also found interesting, is the style of the new apartment block - to me, it's very indicative of Russian style, and I love it! Just looking at it fills me with excitement and joy at the thought of me visiting Russia very soon. I was hoping to fly to Vladivostok, stop off in Khabarovsk on the way through Siberia, tak a break at Lake Baikal, and onto Ufa; before moving forward to Moscow and St Petersburg... There are just so many places to visit, Volgograd too - I want to pay my respects at _The Motherland Calls_ statue on _Mamaev Kurgan_. For me, the _Battle of Stalingrad_ is in the top three most pivotal moments of WWII; along with the _Battle of Britain_ and the U.S.A. joining on the Allied side. Anyway enough ranting, I went off track there, but I hope I gave you an idea of the passion I have for visiting Russia, and of how inspiring your videos are to me (no matter how daft that might sound!). Keep on truckin' man! Much love from the U.K. and Japan! ありがとうございます! あなたはかっこいいですよ! Спасибо большое!

+DizzzyKipper Yes. In Russia it's a common thing when they they sell an apartment which is supposed to be finished by the owners and I can say that this is a good option for most of people. Because most of people prefer to make their own finish. Very often finished apartments people need to re-renovate again but it cost even more expensive because they have to demolish a "default" finish at first.
