For the shingles, I've seen other craft youtubers take strips of cardboard or desired material and cut out the shingles but keep them in one long piece. Essentially just cutting slits. With enough excess at the top of the strips, they can be laid on top of each other to give the appearance that each shingle was laid down individually, but with half the work. It works best for the larger roofs however, and smaller roofs will probably still require individual a shingles. :)
