@@yevheniishyshko7961 I didn't say that religousness had anything to do with "stupidity". I was religious for most of my life (I'm 41) and I didn't "get smarter" when I deconverted. Religious beliefs do inform actions though. And occasionally I made choices that didn't make reasonable sense because of "faith".

Seth that's a logical fallacy. Correllation does not equate to causation. Most religions have directly caused long lasting wars and bloodshed. Human society corrupted religion.

@SirRedPenguin 4 жыл бұрын
Max Powers Well, the fact there is conflict doesn’t falsify or nullify the need for religion, most wars aren’t due to theology they are due to as you say Human Corruption, if you are going to make the case that it shouldn’t be taught because it ‘causes’ wars then that makes no sense because an ignorance of God has also caused a serious amount of bloodshed as well, take Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot.

I agree but a religious person is more likely to do the right thing because they are Christian than a person who is a non believer. I mean a non believer has no moral obligation where a Christian who believes in a moral God does. This of course doesn’t guarantee that the Christian will do the right thing after all we have the freedom of choice. But hopefully you see my point a Christian is more likely to because they are taught and believe they should where an atheist doesn’t.

@@kennethdiasnogueira6105 As an atheist I treat people how I'd like to be treated. Do I want people to steal my stuff? No? Well then maybe I shouldn't steal other people's stuff, since they probably wouldn't like it either. It would be hypocritical to say "Don't steal my stuff" while stealing shit from other people. It's actually really easy, no guidebook or rules required. Having self awareness or consideration for other people isn't something you should do because you have to, otherwise you're gonna "go to hell" or whatever. Also, "objective morality"? Nope. Just, nope to that.

Hebrews 11:6 King James Version 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. John 1 King James Version 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. God loves you so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die on the cross to pay for your sins. If you believe and put your trust in Jesus Christ, that He died on the cross to pay your sin debt and that He rose again on the third day, you will be saved. once you are saved, you will not die in your sins and be damned to hell for eternity. God will remove your sins and your soul will be washed clean with the blood that Jesus Christ shed for us on the cross. your own good works will not get you into heaven. Jesus Christ did all of the work for you, all you have to do is believe and put your trust in Him and He will save you. Ephesians 1:13 King James Version 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,. Jesus Christ is coming back very soon and we all have to be ready. I pray in Jesus Christ's mighty name that you be saved. God bless:)

Well, in Hinduism, we are not required to go to the temple regularly or to sit down and pray for hours. Some do that through, but there is no requirement. To be a Hindu, you need not believe in dietys. It is more about believing in certain principals like "loka samastha sukhino bhavantu"(may the whole world be at peace). It is about your lifestyle. We have stories in hindu mythology where a diety himself says a common man adhering to his principles is more dear to him than a priest chanting his name all day. So, I'm a Hindu and I haven't been to a temple in a long time, but I'm still a Hindu.

There is a biased in certain occupations. I am a funeral director/embalmer and I pretty much have to pretend to be christian to not only get hired but also to the families I serve. If they found out you were atheist....many actually automatically presume that you are amoral and couldn't be trusted to handle the remains of their loved one in a dignified way nor could you be trusted to handle something as sacred as funeral services. Little do they know the owner who not only goes to church every Sunday but he also charges them a 6X markup when they purchase a casket and takes advantage of their grief in every way they can. I have seen some funeral directors and embalmers be pretty disrespectful to a dead human body and they were all "christians." I ACTUALLY got into the profession because I know how horrible grieving a loss can be and I am ACTUALLY passionate about doing everything I possibly can to be there for them and make the experience as meaningful as I can. Plenty of the "christians" (I am not saying all) get into it claiming it is in order to do "god's work" and they are very disrespectful and very selfish even at times in terms of not being willing to go that extra mile for people because they don't want to give up too much of their time. It is kind of like how some whites think all black people are inherently bad when you think about it.....atheists get the same unfounded and ignorant kind of generalization thrown at them! Here is a generalization for you....PEOPLE ARE JUST DICKS! PERIOD!

Rick Pierce We Atheists face the same risks as LBGT individuals had to face in the past(at least racial minorities knew they could count on their own family's love & respect). Being openly secular is only advocating for what is already in our Constitution, a separation between church & state, as well as full equal rights for every US citizen, but even this could lose someone their job. An Atheist can lose all or some members of their family, lose friends & be blackballed from certain professions simply because we expect tangible evidence of reality. No one has yet produced scientific evidence that "God" exists. There is no evidence yet that ANYTHING more advanced or more intelligent than homosapiens exists anywhere, but we've all imagined that it is possible. Technically all atheists are agnostics becuz we are fully open to changing our conclusions if & when new evidence justifies this. Atheism should not scare anyone. There is nothing scary about the scientific method. Atheists don't believe in anything supernatural. That's all. American Atheists believe in the US constitution & obeying the secular laws of our community, including recognizing religious freedom. Nothing scary or threatening about that. If you feel u cannot safely express your atheism at least u can help to educate others about what Atheism is & what it is not.

Estefania, you want to be a deputy coroner. That is an interesting field also. The only recommendation I would make is make sure you try to get into that in a city or suburbs. Out in rural America it is usually only the county coroner who gets elected. If you want to work for a coroner or a medical examiner you go to more populated areas where they bring more people on. You could also run at some point for coroner. Coroners are in most counties. Some (like counties containing a big city like Chicago) have medical examiners were you would need to attend medical school. When progressives talk about keeping the movement going and getting involved in every part of government....the county coroner's/medical examiner's counts as well. Here is a potential reason why; when determining a cause of death a progressive will care more about victims rights for ALL people unlike a portion of conservatives unfortunately do.

It's kinda like that in nursing too. My school's chapter of the student nursing association begins every meeting with a prayer. Obviously I can't speak for every school's own chapter, but that's how it is here. It was one of a few reasons that I stopped attending the meetings. And then of course lots of patients are religious, and they automatically assume that you are too.

Religion is no more dangerous than any other ideology. Violent people will commit acts of violence with or without religion being present, religion is merely the catalyst to justify the violence. Also "when it affects ur voting" -...everything effects your voting. I'm a gamer. Issues that relate to gaming matter to me in my voting patterns. Does that it mean I'm taking my hobby to far? What about gun owners? Caring about issues that relate to their guns is taking it too far? Everybody has something that affects their voting habits, lets not single out religion.

@NomastiAfricanWarlord
@NomastiAfricanWarlord 8 жыл бұрын
Newvials A lot of things in life are bullshit. Tribalism is bullshit. Self destructive selfishness is bullshit. If you got upset about all the bullshit in life, you'd be constantly upset. I'm an atheist, but quite honestly I don't care what people's religion are. People are religious because of how it makes them feel. Emotions, by their nature, are irrational. I'd much rather have a tolerant and peaceful society of multiple different beliefs than a society that is basically the same but everybody's an atheist. The problem in those countries where women have restricted rights isn't just religion, but the culture of those places. How you interpret and apply your religion is highly dependent on the culture of your society. That's why a Christian in say, Germany, likely has far more liberal and progressive interpretations of the Bible than a Christian in Uganda. Also I think the idea that we must "wage a war" against religion is inherently counter-productive. People will cling to their religion, and if they feel like it's being attacked, they will stick to their religious beliefs (remember, you're literally attacking the thing they hold most sacred in their life). It's far better to criticize the negative teachings of a person's religion, than to criticize the religion as a whole. People are willing to shun the negative attributes of a religion as long as you can convince them that the negative attributes of said religion are not something that should be part of their religion. For example, there are many gay Christians. That's because those Christians believe that Jesus emphasized love, not damning people to hell. You can say that the Bible condemns homosexuality, but that's not how they view it. They view that in the Bible that there are some teachings that are more important than others, and therefore they will emphasize those instead of the negative ones. I like Bill Maher, but honestly I think people like him and other Neo-Atheists who have an obsession with fighting against the entirety of religion are largely wasting their time and might even be counter-productive. Which sounds more easier for a Muslim in Saudi Arabia to accept? That his religion is a total sham or that Allah's teachings emphasized respecting women, not oppressing them? The answer is clearly the latter.

The Democratic Party held Biden up as their best hope for America, and Democrat voters elected him over all the other primary candidates. And he then chose one of the least popular of those primary candidates as his VP because shes a woman, mixed ethnicity, and non white (which isnt surprising). Some of the other candidates (Cory Booker from memory) mocked Bidens faulty memory, and Biden still won. Thats the left for ya. Booker probably lost because he always has that unhinged expression, but he was way more energetic and authentic progressive than Biden.

Protestant No Preference. I told them a mistake was made and they refused to stamp atheist on the tag. I kept complaining about the denial of my rights, refusing to wear the tags and ended up being kicked up the CofC and talking with some division Lt. who told me that I had to compromise or my life in uniform would be a ration of shit I wouldn't believe. So as an 18 year old I compromised and they stamped my tags NONE. I refused to attend Sunday Chapel too, but at least they allowed me that. reba kows Not true, it's because most of you "atheists" have created your own religion. You constantly attack theists calling them dumb, stupid etc.....where as the real deal (like I consider myself) really don't care what people believe. I can't pretend to have it all figured out and really have no problem if someone else comes to a different conclusion. I don't have to buy books from Richard Dawkins or put others down to make myself feel more comfortable as a non believer.....if more atheists and agnostics were like myself, there wouldn't be an issue. The problem is most atheists, young ones these days, enjoy being combative and enjoy the attention and like being a victim.
@thetubejacker5470
@thetubejacker5470 7 жыл бұрын
Ken That is the dumbest thing I have ever read. Atheism is NOT a religion. There is no god, we have no book, we don't convene every Sunday. Religion has been the biggest cause of conflict and you have the audacity to say Atheists are combative and act like victims? You hypocrite!
@khabbad
@khabbad 7 жыл бұрын
The TubeJacker You're just not smart enough to understand a metaphor. Secondly the "biggest conflict" claim is once again just something repeated, I suggest doing your own research. BTW not all religions meet on Sunday but they do have a dogma, this is what has happened to atheism. I am not religious nor have a belief in God because none of it makes sense to me. I don't go around claiming religion is the root of all evil, it isn't......man is. You see if there is no God and religion is just a man made illusion then ultimately it is "man" that is detrimental to man, religion is just a semantic. BTW I am also not dumb enough to think the world would be a better place if we could somehow magically prove to everyone in a day that God didn't exist. You see, many millions of people every day struggle for many things we take for granted, they struggle for clean water, they struggle for food, they struggle to keep their kids warm.....even people in the USA can struggle just to make it; every day is a serious grind and the only thing that gives them hope and validation is the unqualified belief that one day they will have been justified through God. Once you take all of that away from them nihilism follows accompanied by hopelessness despair which can become very very dangerous. Meanwhile we have atheists, I'm assuming like you who repeat Dawkins and Maher, even buy books for whatever reason to further convince yourself there is no God.....difference is they make millions of dollars being combative whereas you don't, but they count on folks like you in the "religion" they have created: buy their books, listen to their "sermons" and be told how you are oppressed.....sound familiar? It should, you might as well say: "Amen" every time they are done speaking.
@thetubejacker5470
@thetubejacker5470 7 жыл бұрын
OK, I misunderstood. I can admit, I have flaws. We all do. I'm not saying ALL religions meet on Sundays, I was just using that as an example. And as for me quoting Dawkins and such, that's a negative. I speak for myself, and I think for myself. I don't need someone to do that for me. (That's how religion works). I simply don't believe that a god or gods exist.
@khabbad
@khabbad 7 жыл бұрын
Well I simply don't know, I have no belief in God but that doesn't mean some higher entity does or doesn't exist. It doesn't make sense to me which is why I choose not to believe in it. But the only problem I have today (yourself may be excluded) is that there seems to be some weird combativeness with theists, especially in America with Christian theists.....I don't understand the viciousness but I know where it derives from, that's why I say to some......atheism is being followed, defended and pursued similar to a religion.

Unless you are a perfect human being, whatever that means, you should keep your lack of faith to yourself especially when you live in the south. Nobody will hire me, people talk behind my back, and people always say I am negative and argue a lot. I do not argue unless you press your religion on me and try and convert me. I am not negative, I live in reality. And lastly I am depressed because of the way I have been treated and grown up with people whispering behind my back and not choosing to be around me because I am rational and do not believe in fairy tales. I can definitely say there is persecution towards non believers especially in the deep south. I have lost jobs and friends and turned to drugs because I gave up and felt alone for so long. And overthinking things is not a sign of intelligence but a sign of obsession and unsolved issues. Trust me, I've done so and that's made me miserable. Anyway, is it because of your problems that you're an atheist? Reason isn't an explanation, just the usual pat in the back among non believers.

@@theblueadventurer615 reason isn't an explanation but religion doesn't really need an explanation except knowing that at this point it has failed to meet a burden of proof that is held as standard in every other aspect of life except when it comes to a guy turning water into wine, a dude parting the sea, and worshiping imaginary beings that are argued to be powerful yet can't even show their faces. Weak stuff. I have cleaned myself up and learned from my past and changed based on my mistakes and contradictions as I continue to do. Something these religions and preacher's and followers tend to have a hard time doing themselves.

Well, here's the problem I've noticed with Atheism/Agnosticism as someone who was Agnostic most my life until this year... The idea that something is a fairy tale just because it can't be proved scientifically is simply false. Thinking that way is known as Scientism and it's actually a self-refuting philosophy. Here's why it's self-refuting: The claim *Truth can only be known if it's scientifically verified* cannot be scientifically verified. That's it. That alone tells you it's self-refuting. Anyone arguing as if Scientism is true (Atheists do constantly without realizing it) has declared belief in a philosophy that philosophies can't be true, which is just self-refuting and false by necessity. Theism (belief in God) is in, no way, comparable to believing a fairy tale. There are tons and TONS of rational reasons to believe in a creator. There are well over 100 logically valid, sound arguments for Theism known in academia. And valid arguments like that are the only kind of evidence that can be rationally expected for a philosophical position beyond the scope of scientific inquiry like Theism. Atheism, on the other hand? It has none.
@lightbeforethetunnel
@lightbeforethetunnel 2 жыл бұрын
It's actually not true that Theism has the burden of proof and Atheism doesn't. Both positions hold an equal burden of proof. That's because it's a debate between two philosophical positions, both of which are beyond the scope of scientific inquiry. So you can only go by logically valid, sound argumentation. And there are well over 100 of those for Theism known in academia. Atheism doesn't have any.

When asked about why members of U.S. Congress do not reflect the number of atheists in the the country, Obama says: "My question would be whether there is active persecution of atheists." (1:06) So, when women complain that they make up more than half of the country's population but far fewer U.S. senators, should Obama say: "My question would be whether there is an active persecution of women." Can you see the double standards? Apparently, it's terrible when black people don't win enough Oscars or when there are not enough female senators, but it is okay that there is a complete lack of atheists, the largest minority, in congress?

The Truthful Channel What would your solution be? Have the Government establish a rule where there has to be so many atheists in there? I do think its bad but its not surprising. America while not founded on Christian beliefs is majority Christian and people like voting for a candidate they can relate to. I personally don't care what my elected officials religious beliefs are as long as they are doing their jobs and making America better
@lisakristin1810
@lisakristin1810 8 жыл бұрын
The solution would be to acknowledge that religion has a disturbingly large role in US politics. I'm not from the US so I am always slightly taken aback how often religion and specifically christianity is referenced in political speeches and otherwise in the public sphere (the "in God we trust" motto, "one nation, under God" etc) or the fact that journalists ask political candidates what religious beliefs they have. Or that there is a requirement of religion in some states to hold public office (which is blatantly a violation of the constitution). Instead of the president dismissing that it is an issue, he and other politicians should admit it and support for example political colleagues if they are pressured on religion (such as Sanders was in the primaries). They should (even if they are christian) not use their religion for political gain. The first step to solving a problem will always be to admit there is one in the first place. The funny thing is that the overt religiousness is quite recent. "In god we trust" replaced "E pluribus unum" (out of many, one) as the national motto in 1956. And "under god" was added to the pledge of allegiance in 1954. Although the founding fathers were personally religious, they were very secular considering the time they lived in. They always intended that the USA should be a country with religious freedom and have a separation of church and state, which was an unprecedented idea at the time.

Lisa Kristin I don't think religion in itself is a "problem" per say but I do agree that religion should have no say in politics. The founding fathers were as close to being atheists as you can get. They were deists for the most part. They believed in God but believed God follows natural law.
