Bill's off the mark on the dating thing. Have you seen the data from apps like Tinder, or PlentyOfFish, or pretty much any dating app? Women rate *80%* of men as below average looking, while men rate about 50% of women as below average looking. Think about that for a second. We've spent DECADES telling girls that they don't have to look like models, and the women on TV and in movies aren't realistic, but is anyone telling the girls that Chris Hemsworth isn't normal? No. Young women have RIDICULOUS expectations of men these days. They think anyone who's not a billionaire GQ model isn't worthy of a second thought. This society has spent 40 years telling girls how special they are no matter what they do, and now you have a generation of pathologically narcissistic young women who look at Instagram and tiktok every day and see the fairy tale lives portrayed there, and they think they can't possibly settle for anything less than that. THAT is the problem with modern dating. I know you don't want to believe it, but this one isn't the guy's fault.

Bill doesn't seem to get the obvious questioned posed here. If 3x as many men are not having sex as they were 10 years ago... What is the statistic for the change in women? Oh right, it hasn't changed at all. So women are simply more selective in who they have sex with due to a fundamental change in the dating market. Now they have unlimited options due to dating apps and higher standards. Why would women settle for less? They are simply sharing the top guys and regular guys are pushed out of the market entirely. Blaming men for being pushed out of the market due to these changes is entirely wrong, but as we know women can never be considered at fault for anything.

Women rather share a guy with another woman than date an ordinary guy. Countless research by dating site apps show that 80% of women go after the top 20% of guys, social media raised women’s expectation of guys far higher than a basement dwelling computer nerd. In my experience the biggest problem when it comes to women is that too many of them seem to have this unrealistic and unreasonable expectation that any guy they would even consider dating be completely well off, have their career and independence totally secured, and have everything going for them when in actuality they could be the missing link in a guy's life that helps him get to that point. Whatever happened to having ambitions, doing our best to realize our potential, and just making really solid effort for the woman? Now it feels like you have to be completely successful and can't have any visible cons or else they won't even give you a chance. And this honestly wasn't super great even before social media.

I am also old enough to remember the pre-mobile phone (people still used pagers or old car phones!), pre-social media, pre-streaming days. While we certainly had the "boob tube," (and videos and early computer games) the amount of time most people spent watching live television or videos was FAR less than the number of hours PER day many people now spend online. For one thing, you generally did not carry a tv with you everywhere you went, but now we all have our mobile computer in our pocket. Yes, in the past you might have had your favorite couple of shows that you scheduled things around, but you typically did not spend hour-upon-hour each day watching tv. Moreover, you were generally forced to have in-person conversations, or at the very least SPEAK to people on the phone at least a few times a day. Unless you were elderly or infirmed, it was unusual (and generally viewed as sad and unhealthy) for a person to go for days without going out and engaging in some sort of face-to-face interaction.
@DonnaBrooks
@DonnaBrooks 2 жыл бұрын
@@chatterbox11 And people still CARED about the elderly & infirm. People would take them places, would make food for them, would send them cards & letters. I was just lamenting the last couple of days how I will send carefully crafted emails to someone expressing some concern & asking for their response, only to get a single sentence reply that ignored most of my message. I am SO done with that. The last 2 people that did that to me got a curt reply back. Not rude, just short. Less than 10 words in a single sentence giving them no further emotional energy. I can be just as short & withholding of information as they can be and I don't want to waste my energy trying to make plans with someone if they don't put any effort into addressing my concerns. When I wrote to someone else saying I was SOOO tired of this, I said, "It's these freakin' smart phones & text messages, & social media that has done this to us." So Bill's message is timely, as far as I'm concerned.

But you need to see it from our perspective. We live in an age where $50 a month for vid games give you a better experience than having to spend literally all your money and time with/on a girl. Doesnt this say as much about us guys as it says about the girls we're supposed to love? We're not loving them though arent we? Sure we are attracted to their body. But there is nothing you can talk to the typical girl that interests many of us young men. We dont find their hobbies interesting, we dont like their political ideas, we dont like their taste in entertainment, we dont like their parents or friends or jobs (and neither do they like any of the things we do/think/say btw) In my entire life I only found one girl that I enjoyed talking to. And she was already married with 19 and has now 1 child with 22. Okay, these girls are all gone. What's left are the ones that (like us guys) couldn't find any partner. We're just not fitting well together. And unlike in previous generations where in many cases you literally died on the cold open street if you didnt stick together with a partner to make it through the incredible hard times, there is no such big pressure that could get us (and keep us) together. Add to that the entire dimension of modern "equality" which I have been taught literally my entire life and we add additional factor to this situation. We guys are now equally as lazy as the girls always were, when it comes to finding a partner. We put literally no effort into it. It's not working sure, but the moment you add in the factor that we dont like the average girl in the first place, you realize that we dont care really about the fact that dating them is not working. I think our society should really ask itself if it is really guys that are the sole problem here? Isn't the idea that we (guys) are a problem the reason why we "retreated" to playing vid games in the first place? Wasn't it that we were so sick and tired of being lectured how we guys have to put in all the effort and "be a hero for women" when the same people turn around and lecture us about "equality"? That we were constantly told to do all the things girls like to do (starts in school already with reading certain books, dancing, singing, writing poems etc etc and ends with social training sessions in our jobs), while the girls literally seem to be able to do whatever the hell they want to do and get full support from everyone? You can even play vid games all day long as a girl and the media and everyonewill come out and talk about how brave you are for playing vid games as a girl and what a bright future you have. I mean dear lord, this is what drives us guys nuts, this incredible double standard that we're constantly held to. And that's exactly why we retreat. We refuse to being judged by people we deem unworthy of judging us. And also ,why would I literally risk everything that I have and additionally go through YEARS of trial and error, with dates and excercises and awkward conversation and rejection or even potential sexual harrassment accusations, just to have a 50:50 chance of getting a divorce and paying her bills for the rest of my life? I might be lazy but I am definitely not stupid or insane. And before you tell me "you dont have to marry her". Then what is the point of any of it in the first place? I want either a family or nothing at all. I have settled for nothing and so far I am not disappointed.

Ehhh, this is a live show with a studio audience. It has a set time limit, then it turns off. There’s only one a week. Compare that to the hours spent mindlessly staring into a light box, your average gamer, your average fb user is spending too many hours effectively checking out from the world, being absolutely useless to their family, their future, etc. I think it’s intellectually dishonest to say the meta verse is an extension of a world where people actually move around and get in the sun and develop immunities and most importantly, interact with their own community. A geographical community is a vital part of our existence, people need to connect irl to begin having a say in what’s happening around them, instead of just being shocked and appalled and finding somewhere “better” to live. People wasting their lives away on Facebook is what got us Donald Trump. It’s what keeps people in their little bubbles, where they are never forced to learn something new, never stuck in a room with someone they disagree with, never given any perspective on life at all. You just galvanize and become overly sensitive and ironically intolerant of those different from you. Not to mention the extreme level of misinformation on the site, I imagine that’s going to be a lot worse with VR.

@@michelebaer if we left maintaining a healthy balance up to the average citizen we’d have no laws. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be allowed to see your sister, if you want, when you talk to her, and I can see why that interests you. I wonder, though, with it being an avatar, would it need to be very similar looking to her in real life for you get the same benefit? Like if her avatar was a moose, would you still enjoy that more than seeing the real her on FaceTime? What I’m saying in my previous comment is that there is a good cause for concern, even from someone seeking themselves in a 2D format, to give the world something they’ve already lost themselves in, only with more withdrawal from reality and this is heightened when you’re trusting the reigns for this obviously addictive product to the likes of Facebook, a company that notoriously abuses and manipulates the power they wield to increase monetary profit, not to “connect people.” They experiment on users, they brag about the ability gained from said experiments to turn a dial and impact the moods/emotions of an entire group of people, geographical or demographical, usually with greatest efficacy and bigger payoff towards negative emotions. There are serious and global implications for something that was intentionally inserted into the daily lives of literally billions of people getting access to even more data on the humans they exploit for profit every day as it is, tracking and following and selling access to us as if it were theirs in the the first place. As if they have a _right_ to know what people are thinking, to hijack what people want to see, and to sell that open access to the highest bidder. The argument that any one person that has the self control to be smart and responsible with any given product make that fine for everyone is myopic at best, as we can see through a million different studies how little control most people have over themselves, how easily that control can be bypassed through subliminal and cerebral cues and trickery, and how outright sloppy with it this company has _always_ been- and that those examples weren’t mistakes, they are the standard operating procedures for this incredibly unqualified ruler who continues to lead astray the largest population in the world. I maybe get on social media once a month, but there are entire countries who equate Facebook with the internet itself. Thinking your restraint should permit fb’s lack of restraint is the kind of thinking that will get us all in trouble when … will I was gonna say the world is on fire, but heyo it already is so, ya know. Maybe we could come together as a people and put some fires out for a little while before sending little sucky zuch off with a blowtorch, eh? I do empathize with your distance from your sister, and while I trust you not to destroy us all, I don’t trust the rest of the planet. Or that company. @@rainbomg Love your thoughtful response. I agree with all the cautions you outline very well indeed. But the part you're missing is basic personal responsibility as opposed to legislating good behavior (which is impossible). Cars are great for humans and kill many humans every minute, the Internet revolutionized all our lives and it's destroyed some as well. You get the idea. We cannot halt technological progress, nor should we even try. We need to work to evolve with it, educating those who fall prey to the bad characters in this world. Blockchain, Web 3, Metaverse innovation is here and will offer wonderful enhancements to our lives. There will always be corruption and bad characters in every space and we need to put our energy to stop them as well but not halt the progress because of them. @@michelebaer I appreciate yours as well and while I mostly agree, we see things like this completely corrupt entire countries, fb has been responsible for a mass genocide that simply wouldn’t have happened if they hadn’t pushed their product onto that population. How can we stop something that’s already so out of control? Nearly half the country believes the election was stolen and no amount of reality will change their minds. People are dying, from Covid conspiracies to flat earthers to lies about blm and that Q garbage, these things are leading to real deaths every day. Mostly I’m just not comfortable with this company having this continuous freedom and ability to do over and over again what they have countlessly proven they’d do, corrupt people for profit, enrage people for clicks, and fail to act when something is obviously false and damaging. Maybe if any other company did this it’d be fine, or maybe if like driving we required a permit and a license, but the overall point I’m making is that personal responsibility has nothing on mass hysteria. Because Michele, the problem isn’t you and me, the problem is the 30 million people in this country that don’t believe reality bc of what they read on fb, who try and overthrow governments and kill ppl in the streets bc they are already so detached from reality. Nowadays it's about "me", and not spending one's youth on relationships but instead supporting yourself, going to college, getting ahead in the world, traveling, search for entertainment, etc. Depending on others is considered "weak". I've been married 13 years and have one child so far. My wife and I both work, and she makes more money than I do. Her ability to earn a high income didn't change who she is, it only amplified who she already was. Money does that to everyone. Women aren't hypergamous robots, and a good sign of a quality woman in today's world is one who is self-motivated, working towards future goals, and NOT looking for a handout, because if she has her life in decent order, that's about the best you can expect out of a marriage partner, male or female. And maybe it does end in divorce; people are complicated things, but if you and your spouse are people of character, you'll find a way to navigate even that level of catastrophe in a rational manner. I'm *not* part of the incel community, but I am autistic, and I found the end of this bit offensive. Speaking from experience, a lot of people with ASD get discriminated against at work far worse than women, and we struggle to keep our jobs because we can't navigate the social drama neurotypicals love to create. We struggle with small talk and other basic social situations, not because we lack practice, but because of who we are. Bill, I share your dislike for social media. Although I play a few small phone games, I spend most of my time watching science videos, reading, writing, and playing with my roommate's dog. I'm not very social because "going out and asking girls out" doesn't present a "risk" of rejection, it's guaranteed rejection. It usually only takes a woman 5 to 10 seconds to realize that I'm "a bit off," and I immediately get shot down or friends zoned. If I'm honest on dating app profiles about my condition, I get one match every few months, and from those, it takes over a year to meet just one woman in person. (Most never reply.) And I live in a major metropolitan area. I'm not looking for pity, but it would be nice if people like me could stop being the butt of jokes or if feminists would stop saying that autistic men belong in a concentration camp (because we make them feel uncomfortable). Maybe then a lot of guys like me wouldn't choose to counter the hate we see by joining bitter, resentful communities that are easily rounded up by social media algorithms and then co-opted by political interests. In the future, it might help to distinguish between losers who grew up expecting a silver spoon and spent all their time drinking and doing drugs from guys like me, who try hard but struggle to stay afloat solely because HR sees us as the problem.

Happily married, but not sure I'd wander back into the dating pool again if something ever happened to her.

Exactly. I agree that they're a percentage of men who don't try at all and retreat into their video games, phones, etc. But what about the men who try and get rejected? Social ability and confidence are helpful with women but they're not a guarantee of success. You can still fail and be able to hold a conversation with a woman.

An awkward kid in London, what Bill would call an Incel, got up the courage to walked up to a girl. But he was awkward and didn't know how to speak to girls. She got a 250 quid fine out of him and he did 200 hours of community service because she got scared. This is not the seventies or the eighties anymore or even the nineties, there's shame in the game, and lot's of risk for men; legal, financial, reputational, emotional, and physically, in going up to random women and trying to get to know them if you have no game, are awkward, overweight or not that attractive. Talking to women is not and shouldn't have to be an act of Heroism. AS IF IT IS LIKE FIGHTING DRAGONS. What an Incel needs is the camaraderie, support, and friendship of other men, not more shame and mockery. They get that enough from women they try and meet.

While I love working from home, one of the things I do miss about going to a place to work is the human interaction. Luckily, I spent a lot of time outdoors, exercise and see people. But there are a lot of folks and young generation, unfortunately, that won't leave their homes. Interaction is a key for success. Meet people, talk and spend less time looking at screens. Now, I am out of here. LMAO.

This is the only reason I still have a crap job. It is SO painful physically, as my body breaks down more and more, and leaving my house to go to that job is a loathsome feeling every single time, but I suspect that with no regular interaction with family already and losing those few hours a day with other humans, I might go insane. Manipulation and toxic is drugging someone’s drink or luring them to being alone with a lie. Not having confidence and a sense off humor. Are you saying if a man makes a woman laugh or feel attraction to him that she has no power to resist and is a weak and pathetic person who doesn’t know her own mind? Ok.
