I'm living proof of this. My husband and I were unbelievers, he had an affair, then abandoned me and our 3 children. He went to the furthest place on Earth away from us. Gave his heart to Jesus, and within weeks was on a plane home! Hallelujah! We reconciled, had another child, then I too encountered the Lord and gave my heart to Him. All is forgiven, all is well. The Lord is a healer! What you say is profound and true. The word doesn't lie. He is merciful and kind and his will supports lifelong marriage!

People ask me all the time why I won't even consider dating anyone. I tell them the Bible says it isn't ok to remarry while your spouse is still living, and mine is. Yes it gets lonely, no it's not easy, but I want with everything in me to honor God as much as possible. If His word says to do something, I want to do it. If His word says not to do something, I don't want to do it. If He is pleased for me to remain single for the rest of my days, so be it. He is God and I am not.

The Elder is %100 correct. My and Husband and I divorced. And we have reconciled. Before he asked me to come back, I knew i wasn't going to be able to remarry. Also meaning i couldn't fornicate either. It's hard being single and young, and I did go back into the world after my divorce. But finally, God spoke to me in a way that shook me to my core. So i closed my legs, repented and focused on God and prayed that he would keep me. And then my Husband, called me after a 1 1/2yr of being separated and divorced. At first i didn't want to come back, but the Holy Spirit directed me to the scriptures again. So I prayed and fast, and now were back together. Praise God!!! Thank you Jesus!!!

I’m a police officer studying for ministry - Your reconciliation is a blessing TO YOU!! I am for putting the obvious in the vows - “you cheat, or abandon your marriage in heart, word, or deed by disaffection, abuse emotionally or worse lay your hands on me - yes I vow to divorce you” - I have seen horrendous cases of abuse which eventually even lead to homicide - we cannot guilt the victims into staying with these monsters or call these victims to a “gift of singleness” they clearly did not have, else they would not have married. It is a sin to condemn the guiltless (offended/ victim spouse) to enforce the law. Matthew 12:3 - 7 covers enforcing rules without mercy. Do not condemn victims with a life sentence as they wait for the wicked to finish up their explorations of debauchery & POSSIBLY return. Victims of abuse have also been abandoned by their spouse - and are no longer under bondage. Do not condemn the guiltless!! Read “A Cry For Justice: How the Evil of Domestic Violence Hides in Your Church” by police officer, turned pastor Jeff Crippen.

Greg Champaign , I Totally Agree with You. I went through a horrible divorce. He left me( a Christian) for another woman. I moved on, with my children. I started a new church, and the Pastor came to my home, and told me, that I would Never be free to remarry. As a result, I quit going there. I even walked away from God. Much Later, I ended up, marrying a non- believer. I asked that Pastor, “ Look at my two year old son, and tell me why, he doesn’t deserve to have a father in his life?” This Teaching that the church is giving is Totally Incorrect. The Bible says clearly, that if a non believer departs, let he or she depart. The Christian has been called to Peace. Currently, because of all of these rules, I have quit church. I am even in doubt that there is a God. It’s sad, but it’s true. You sound like a very educated man, and I greatly appreciate your comment. Blessings to you, your Loved Ones and Your Ministry!😊♥️ Perhaps, my life would have been Very Better if there had been Pastors like you, in my past. If there really is a God, I hope that He Blesses you to the Fullest!!!😊♥️ Most people that call themselves Pastors, haven’t ever been exposed to abuse. Not the way, that you and I have witnessed it. For me, it was first hand, and he also abused my two sons, horribly! My story was a Nightmare. In my opinion, There is No Excuse For Abuse! Abusers need to be locked up. It’s so sad, because I see it everywhere these days. Cindy

I have to teach on Matt 5:31 to my Sunday school class. I am tempted to gloss over it to avoid controversy as most of the couples in my class are people in their 50s and 60s who are divorced and remarried. My wife and I are also baby-boomers but we are "first spouses" and have been married for 42 years. Over the years we have become "freaks" among many evangelical groups as more of our friends have become divorced. We are reluctant to publicly celebrate our anniversary because when fellow Christians ask us how long we have been married, they soon discover that we are still in our first marriage. "Oh, how nice" they say politely. I ask that Christians pray for me that I am able to teach this section of Matthew without creating unnecessary discord. Regardless of the outcome, I believe that all Christian leaders will have to answer for this problem at the Judgement Seat of Christ.

That's pretty sad to say! Don't expect God to answer with more guidance when He wrote a whole book for you to use as guidance. Jesus clearly sad! Matthew 19:9 King James Version (KJV) 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. The only reason some keep looking for guidance elsewhere is because they don't like what God wrote in the bible so they look for ways to make themselves feel better about sinful choices. The bible covers EVERYTHING a Christian will encounter in life and we are to obey the word, not look for other guidance because we don't like what the bible says.

@@av4926 I would encourage you do look at the evidence for remarrying after a divorce as you need to look into what the original text indicates. The leadership at a church where I was attending did just that and came to the conclusion based on scripture that Jesus was referring to a more general type of unfaithfulness and not just adultery. My wife abandoned me 4 1/2 years ago with NO desire to reconcile. I have prayed much and studied what God is really saying when you actually dig deeper. The Holy spirit has released me to date so I base that on scripture and my conscience.

God allows divorce because of the hard hearted offender, not the "hard hearted victim" of adultery, neglect or abuse. Divorce is also a mercy from God for the "victim" of a hard hearted spouse. According to Scripture, God hates divorce and still made a way for his children to start over and find peace. In Matthew, Jesus is clarifying Deuteronomy 24:1. The lawyers of his time had perverted the scripture to allow for an "any cause" divorce which Jesus says is not valid. Any person marrying a person divorced for "any cause" would be an adulterer because the divorce was not valid. An often over looked scripture dealing with divorce is Exodus 21:10-11. It deals with divorce for neglect of food, clothing and sex. Abuse is nothing less than a severe form of neglect. God has never required us, as his followers, to allow ourselves to be victimized. Because he loves us, he has alway given us a way out. When one tries one's best and the marriage fails because of a hard hearted spouse, then there is no condemnation for remarriage. According to Deuteronomy 24 both parties, the victim and the adulterous spouse can remarry after divorce. Jesus didn't change that law, he only explained the answer to the question, "Can a man divorce his wife for "any cause"?" God's blessing and peace, ~Elder Tom Sherman

In Leviticus the High priest was told he cannot marry a widow a Divorced woman only a virgin . High priest folks. With this scripture in mind isnt it saying divorced people married. Or the possibilty of it was allowed just not for High Priest. Deuteronomy 24:1-4 is very clear as was Jesus in Matthew. Is divorce Gods very best NO but then niether is judging or condeming another person. How many of those who speak of no remarry have resisted sin to the shedding of your blood. Your doctrine denies Jesus blood as suffienct which is a far greater sin . Just think about this . Not everyone has been given gift of celibacy notice gift part here. You put people in serious jeopardy of fornication etc etc if they haven't been given this gift do you ever consider this or is being pious more important to you.

The call of God to minister is a very serious and responsible position. It should not be taken lightly to lead others to death.

I am separated from my wife now, but I have no plans to divorce. I am content to wait until we can reconcile or if she chooses not to I am content to remain unmarried and celibate for the rest of my life! Everyone is so afraid of that word. Celibacy is not a death sentence! I have learned during my separation that I have a serious problem with lust. Even the 12 step programs recognize that celibacy is a solution for this issue. If God wants me to remain unmarried for life I will remain celibate for life! God is good!

I asked artificial intelligence for an unbiased interpretation of Matthew 19:9 at face value: Here was the result: "In Matthew 19:9, Jesus provides an exception to the prohibition of divorce and remarriage, stating that sexual immorality (often interpreted as adultery) is a valid reason for divorce. The verse states, "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery." This exception clause indicates that if a spouse engages in sexual immorality, the innocent party is allowed to divorce and potentially remarry without committing adultery. It is important to note that interpretations of this passage may vary among different Christian denominations." (an unbiased interpretation of a literal reading of Matthew 19:9, from artificial intelligence on January 9, 2024).

@@BennettJonWayne-xw9vithis is where the problem is. What is artificial intelligence? Where was it when God created man? Where was it when God said if you get divorced you must remain single or else be reconciled to your spouse. This is so clear, whether you are the wronged spouse or not, you are to remain single. The only thing that makes it difficult and we end up doing things our own way is the flesh. The flesh wants of its own, it doesn’t want to submit to the will of God. Celibacy is is a scary thing for other people hence this excuse of “ a wronged spouse can remarry in the case of adultery” No, artificial intelligence is artificial intelligence not God’s intelligence. Deception can sound like truth!

@@ZanDiko-i3j The only thing worse than artificial intelligence is no intelligence at all. A plain and simple reading of Matthew 19:9, and rendering an understanding of it conceptually, does not require a high intelligence quotient (IQ). Jesus also said in the verse that "whosoever marries her that is divorced commits adultery." He likewise stated that the wronged HUSBAND can remarry, but He did NOT say that the wronged wife can remarry. So the verse is not as simple as you think. (1) A divorced woman cannot remarry, unless her first husband dies. (2) A wronged husband CAN and MAY remarry, but does not HAVE TO remarry. An adulterous husband CANNOT REMARRY.

Sick of people distorting truth by using the exception to the rule to apply to the majority. This is diluting truth. "Well but technically it's ok In this scenario", that cannot be proven. It's the equivalent to a scam artist claiming their car was hit after it was already damaged to collect and justify it to themselves. They pull verses and twist them up and patch this with that to make their selfish desires jive in their own mind. There should be no Christian pastors remarrying anyone unless their spouse has passed. .

As i was meditating on this matter, a couple of weeks ago the Holy Spirit said to me: 'what they do not understand is the binding.....God binds two people together, a man and woman thus becoming one body. He does not and will never bind 2 men to one woman or vice versa.' So, those who remarry, even if officiated in church, God only sees the first wife or husband..if they are still alive and no certificate of divorcement will make them disappear. This bond is not negotiable and its final and no man can tear apart that bond except through death as God instituted it. We hv been admonished not to comform to the world but be transformed from it. Let us stop listening to the gospel of devils thats so rampant in this world and return to our first love, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Amen.

These guys hit the nail right on the head. I am a guy who's wife left after 26 years of marriage. I have been watching her being turned over to sin, run through a few guys, estranged from her kids and now grand child. I would love to latch onto the wide road churches view of remarriage. I can't. Do the study, be honest with yourself and how you treat scripture. This is one of our modern day blind spots. Maybe a product of a man centered gospel? IDK, but the totality of scripture is pretty clear. It is amazing how many great bible teachers seem to fall into the modern idea that, though marriage is "representative of Christ and the Church" you can toss her aside now that she doesn't meet your conditions, is this how they see "Christ and the church"? I mean she flakes out and has an affair, well, divorce her and you are free to remarry, because your feeling were hurt and an English reading and western understanding of two scriptures trump all the others...? No, I wish I didn't believe what these guys were saying was true, but it is. I guess when Christ leaves his bride, I'll leave mine. Until then I'm going to honestly seek Him who can give the grace to stand and wait, and can give the miracle of new birth to the woman He gave me. He makes all thing new. Perhaps He won't, but let Your will be done Lord. I do honestly believe this life is a flash in the pan. One day we will be in a place where there is no sin, no tears and I pray that I can face Him and thank Him for the grace He gave me, because I won't be able to do it without that grace. All that said to those who want to surround yourselves with teachers that say what your itching ears want to hear, and they are out there, many are very sound teachers, they are wrong on this one, and our culture is not modeled a true view of Christ and the Church. I will say this also, neither divorce or remarriage are unforgivable sins, but if your in this terrible place right now, please listen to the Lord, and not the teacher that makes you feel good, or justified. It's hard, but He never said it wouldn't be and if you're a believer, and the fact that you are a believer, is proof He is the God of miracles, thank Him and don't let this cup pass, we are being conformed into the image of Him who suffered at the hands of sinners, even death.

This is a incorrect judgmental evaluation of other Christians, The very word of God allows divorce.... yes he Hates it, but he does allow it. Therefore do not accuse your brothers of searching for teachers to suit heir itching ears. The church is the bride of Christ, the church is made up of individuals with free will and every Christian has a choice to turn away from God and follow their fleshly desires. Christ will never leave us but he will allow that Christian to leave him, because he allows us free will and in the same way us humans if our spouse cheats and is unrepentant and wants to leave and marry someone else... what can you do? other than pray, but once they have married the new person.... are you saying you should still hold on and wait for them so you can be reconciled with them? ...... even after they have already married someone new? You are free to divorce, if you so desire. It is not a sin to divorce an adulterous spouse. God would prefer reconciliation, so do your best to reconcile and if that fails then you are free to Divorce and/or Remarry.

I believe Jesus said that the only sin that is not forgivable is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. My ex wife cheated on me multiple times when we were dating and commited adultery after we were married. I was not willing to continue so we got divorce. I then remarried and have been married for 8 years and am happier than I've ever been in a marriage. I had the chance to continue being married to my ex but chose not too. She has remarried twice since we divorced and cheated on all her other spouses. I think I made the right choice. I love my current wife and we have 3 beautiful children.

The night I ask her to leave she went in the bed room, hit her knees and cried out to the Lord to change her, to direct her to help her be what HE wanted her to be as a wife.... after a few month me seeing the change HE was making in her I began to seek HIM as I should have before this messe we re in happened, he began to speak to me and change me into what he desired for me as a husband this resulting in full reconciliation and remarriage. Somebody please Help me with this one!!!!! Wife (church going) left husband and moved in with her boyfriend. Wife divorced husband after 10 years of marriage and five kids. The ex-wife is now married to the boyfriend going on five years and they have one child. Ex-wife now flirts with the first husband (remained single) and has asked for the first husband to have sex with her and to take her back. She wants to leave the second husband because he will not go to church with her she say. The first husband says that the ex-wife is in the Bible like he never knew her to be. But, he said that he would never honor her request because she is married again and he would be committing adultery. What is going on with the ex-wife? And, what are the rules?

Sometimes you have to divorce to protect your child from someone who could hurt them. What is more unforgivable; staying with an abusive and unpredictable man to “hope” he reconciles one day, and while doing so place the child in danger? Or divorce, gain custody, protect your child, and give the child a chance to be raised by a loving stepfather who cares? When your husband abuses you, he has chosen to abandon you. When he places you in danger, he has chosen a love for himself over a love for his family. If he chooses to drown his sorrows in drugs and alcohol, he is dead; maybe not physically, but spiritually and emotionally. Think about what you’re saying before you condemn women who leave to give themselves and their children a safer life.

Scripture clearly teaches anyone who divorces and remarries while their covenant spouse is still living (with the exception of fornication) is an adulterer or adulteress (Matthew 5:31-32; Matthew 19:3-9; Mark 10:2-12; Luke 16:18; Romans 7:2-3; 1 Corinthians 7:10-15; 1 Corinthians 7:39). Additionally, scripture clearly teaches in order to receive God's mercy one must repent or they won't inherit the kingdom of Heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Luke 13:3). God saves anyone who genuinely repents. Repentance has two elements: Confessing AND forsaking our sins. Proverbs 28:13, says: "He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses AND forsakes them will have mercy." Remaining in an adulterous remarriage is not repentance. The liar has to repent and stop lying; the thief has to repent and stop stealing; the homosexuals have to repent and stop committing homosexual acts; and the adulterers and adulteresses (including those in adulterous remarriages) must repent and stop committing adultery. Sharing the scriptural truth about divorce and remarriage infuriates people who are supposed to be followers of Christ. Jesus's words regarding this issue anger his alleged followers like no other topic. Perhaps, it's time to obey Jesus Christ, and to begin believing He means what He says. Most importantly, ALL sins are unforgivable without repentance...including remaining in adulterous remarriages. According to the clear, easy to understand words of scripture: Jesus most definitely sends unrepentant adulterers and adulteresses to hell.

@ymarrero23 wow- you should really take a domestic abuse class or learn about the cycle of abuse. Knowing someone for a 1year + can reveal signs that someone is an abuser but probably not because a lot of times it is the commitment and security of forever that lets an abusers guard down and they feel comfortable/secure now to abuse bc they know that their spouse is never going to leave them. It is quite apparent that you have not been married or are married by the very comment- marriage brings out a whole level of comfortability that dating can ever and you really get to know a person AFTER marriage then ever before. Marriage is SUPPOSED to be forever and Lord I wish that were the attitude of the man I married in deed (not just his word that he gave me but in action) but even God divorced Israel. obviously it is not His PERFECT will, but there are consequences to sin and NO ONE should feel pressured to stay in a marriage if they are beaten, cheated on, or abandoned. We aren't talking about 1 or both spouses carelessly marrying /divorcing. Good for you for recognizing signs and not marrying someone who likely would of hurt/abused you but that's not everyone's story and if you seriously aren't giving any grace to a spouse who was abandoned, beaten, cheated on (whether or not there were signs) WHEN God does, then I don't think you understand the Father's heart and His Word or His love for you. I may have an abusive husband who threw me out on the streets but not encountering God's love in that a real way especially to the point where you feel comfortable condemning others...I feel sorry for you and I hope to God you don't ever have to eat your own words.

Dennis, You are not allowed to remarry. Many think that because of the “fornication” clause in Matthew you can remarry because of adultery: "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for fornication (or uncleaness porneia), and marries another woman commits adultery (moikeia)."-Matthew 19:9 Notice that the Greek word for fornication is “porneia” and the Greek word for adultery is “moikea.” Also, please note that this “except for fornication” clause is not found in Mark 10:1-11 or Luke 16:18. This is because Matthew was writing to Jews. The Jews had a betrothal period before marriage. This was somewhat like our engagement period today. For example, since Mary was pregnant, Joseph could have ‘put away’ his fiancée because of fornication. Notice that the Bible refers to Mary as Joseph’s wife before they were married: Luke 2:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, Matt. 1:20 … Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife… The Jewish betrothal was begun with a proposal and a commitment made in the presence of witnesses. It was beyond the private promise made in modern engagements of today, and was considered legally binding. Therefore to break an espousal in Jewish society required a legal separation - a writing of divorcement equivalent to that required of married couples. THERE IS NO DIVORCEMENT CLAUSE FOR GENTILES BECAUSE GENTILES DO NOT HAVE BETROTHAL LAWS LIKE JEWS. If you remarry while your spouse is still alive, you are continuously committing adultry, you can't put a band-aid of grace and continue in that sinful marriage, just as you can't continue in a homosexual marriage, because though God is aware that people do divorce and remarry others, He still does not even recognize the second marriage as valid, he instead says that the remarried are STILL committing adultry against their original spouse: "So then if, WHILE HER HUSBAND LIVETH, she be MARRIED TO ANOTHER MAN, SHE SHALL BE CALLED AN ADULTRESS: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man."-Romans 7:3 WHAT MAN HAS JOINED LET NO MAN PUT ASUNDER (SEPARATE). TWO SHALL BE ONE FLESH (Matthew 19:6). "'Till death do you part". KEEP YOUR VOWS. That is why when the disciples heard the hard truth about marriage, they said that it would be better to not even marry at all (Matthew 19:9-10). If you are remarried, you must divorce. If you are divorced only, you must stay single or wait for reconciliation with your original spouse. The only time you can remarry is if your original spouse dies. You don't have to believe me, you can read the Word of God, there is no remarriage allowed in there. Also, you can read the testimonies of all these people who were convicted and even had dreams of hell because of their adultrerous remarriages: cadz.net/humphrey.html God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16)

@@adiraFEARSHEAVENLYFATHER4EVER, Yes, unfortunately they must leave that invalid marriage even though they didn't know, because as Romans 7:3 says, as long as they are married to someone who has divorced a living spouse, they both will be called adulterers. There's a video of remarried and divorced people in chambers of hell, some didn't know their spouse had divorced before, but they still wound up there. This is why we need to seek God in all matters, just like the story of how Abraham's servant asked God to help him find a wife for Isaac in Genesis 24. Testimony of Pastor Jerry Miles Humphrey, born in 1872. He was against remarriage (he calls it "divorce-marriage"). He was married at 19 years old to his 17 year-old wife, until his wife grew cold and wanted a divorce. So they did and He remained unmarried for 7 years until many several Orthodox men of God who knew more told him that he was free to remarry because he was innocent. So he remarried. As soon as the marriage ceremony was over, he felt wrong in his spirit. He would fast and pray for answers for months, but it was constant until it became real doubt. So he decided to live separate from his second wife for 18 months to seek God in prayer and fasting about if he made a mistake and if it was a mistake, to know how to get out of it. He was fully ready to obey God at all costs, even to the point of losing his life if he had to. And so he began to have dreams. On April 13th, 1907, he dreamt of a minister who spoke to him the words from Isaiah 52:11, “Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord.” On September 28th, 1907, he dreamt of a being who said: "There is someone in this community rejecting God-given light, and if they do not stop, God is going to send them to hell forever. He has sent me to warn them. Now you may do as you please about this matter. I have warned you, so good-bye!" The 3rd dream was about a large white boat that represented the Bible. He was in a narrow boat/skiff which represented the "except it be for fornication" from Matthew 19:9 (the scripture that people us as grounds/excuse to divorce). His small narrow boat was being beaten up by the crashing waves until he sank into a watery grave. In the 4th dream, "I saw myself joined arms with my second wife, walking down a wide brimstone road in hell, and as we passed a large vestibule I saw throngs of voluptuous men all dressed in black, and wearing silk hats. They were all keeping time to a band of music, and waving college banners, and singing this chorus: “In hell at last! In hell at last! And earth and all her pleasures past. In hell at last! In hell at last: For aye and aye the die is cast.” And in front of these men were about a dozen large black swine (emblems of filth and uncleanness). And they were flopping their ears and cringing to the music. In this, God showed me that I had followed the sensual, unclean, flesh-indulging multitudes of earth, into this divorce-marriage business. At this I awoke with that awful picture burning in my brain, and that hellish music ringing in my ears." 5th sign was this, "One day, as I stood all alone in the parlor of a friend’s house, in an eastern city, (while contemplating taking up this awful cross) it seemed as though a glorified spirit descended, and sang the following chorus to me: “Heaven is cheap at any cost, Do gain its ports or all is lost; For earthly gain is only dross And naught’s of value but the cross.” And with this song there seemed to come volleys of exhortations from Wesley, Fletcher, Pollock and millions of glorified saints saying to me, “Gain heaven’s port at any cost” At this he now realized he must divorce. People found out about it and tried to convince them out of their convictions to not divorce, but as he put it, "their arguments were too shallow to build on for eternity." Then he had another dream, it was a preacher reading from a paper and said “You would be all right if it were not for that divorce-marriage.” The last dream he had was of lightening picking him up and throwing him in a fire and the words spoke "Prepare to meet thy God". When he woke up, his bed was hot. He was now clear in his direction, he talked to his second wife, and they finally divorced, after two years. He says: "Since we did so, I feel as clear as an angel. And I am fully convinced that divorce-marriages are wrong; no matter if every preacher in the universe says they are not...I am not writing what I think, but what I positively know; and am willing to seal this testimony with my blood. I know whereof I speak. And no matter how conferences or church disciplines may rock the conscience of the people to sleep telling them they can marry while their husbands or wives live; they are wrong, and the souls whom they are deceiving will find it out when eternity is unveiled, if not before. I thank God that He kept conviction and light streaming from heaven on my soul until I walked in it, in spite of all the false comforters, who were crying, Peace: Peace: when there was no peace; but dread, fear and awful uncertainty... if you are now in one, and love your soul, and want to gain heaven, do get out of it: even at the cost of all things, or else you will regret it throughout all eternity." I cringe to think of all of the spouses who are suffering greatly in their marriages who come across this video. I went with a “save the marriage at all cost” mentality against an unfaithful wife for two years after the first revelation, to say nothing of a high degree of manipulation. But sticking it out in the hopes of reconciliation from the advice of men like this led me to become suicidal. The men in this video are saying that God loves marriage more than he loves the people in it. That is not true.

There are a lot of hyper-legalists in these comments. They want the innocent party to suffer in loneliness and neglect. They revel in others' pain. They will answer for it someday. God has worked miracles in many second marriages. I was the victim of unrepentant adultery and complete abandonment by a spouse. With no-fault divorce, one party can break the legal binding. Many people are living a very lonely single life today that was not of their own choosing. That was me 27 years ago. Today, I have been happily remarried to a remarkable, never-married Christian woman for the past 25 years. God has indeed blessed and created great good from a broken situation.

This is my problem with this. I lived for years with an adulter , when he finally brought his dirt into my home I had to make a painful choice of divorce. For mere sanity and solace. He and his fornicator made both my life and that of my children unbearably. He as a believer taunted demeaned and abused us. I got no support or assistant from his family or my church. Instead I was made to feel like a lunatic. I am by no means advocating divorces but I'd like the church to see just how many divorcees they join together despite declaring it's not allowed

The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?” They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?” He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. I watched my mom try to save a failed marriage from the time I was 4 years old until they divorced when I was 28. I truly wish they had been able to save their marriage and they did make amends before my dad died at only 55 years old in 2000. She remarried and has been happy. I saw her give until she had nothing left to give. When my dad could not get his issues resolved she could not take it anymore. I know my dad was saved before he died and know my mom is now. It hurts to see two people you love with all your heart divorce...even when you are an adult. @@pastorshandonevangkimlaellis Let me ask you a question. Do you think that God's word applies to all of humanity or only to believers? Will all humans be judged according to Jesus' words or will some be exempt because "they didn't know or believe"? All first marriages are joined together by God and are thus subject to Jesus' teaching on marriage and divorce whether they know it or not. If you were divorced before you became a believer, conversion does not annul your previous marriage; you remain in a one-flesh union until death.

@@pastorshandonevangkimlaellis Why does the bible consistently describe them as marriages if God doesn't recognize them as marriages then? You are extremely confused and allowing your emotions to cripple your thought process. John the Baptist lost his head for pointing out that Herod was unlawfully married to his brother's wife. Why would that matter to John or anybody else if God doesn't recognize sinner's marriages? I guess John could've saved his own life if he would've just known what you seem to know. In any case, I've given plenty of scripture to support the view that all believers, regardless of their prior spiritual status, are to remain unmarried after a divorce or seek reconciliation. Repentance, forgiveness and reconciliation are always God's way when it comes to broken relationships and that theme runs throughout the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. Old things washed away and all things become new? Are you claiming that marriage covenants are "washed away" once someone becomes a believer? LOL I'm not sure how someone who calls himself a pastor could be so clueless as to think that such a ridiculous claim is supported by the word of God. I suspect that you yourself are in an adulterous remarriage and that's what's driving your desperation here to manufacture excuses for divorce and remarriage. When you stand before God, no amount of ranting or silly excuses will help you. You will be held responsible for disobeying the words of Jesus and teaching others to do so.

The divorce and remarriage for adultery doctrine is based solely on the supposed guilt of the wife in Matthew 5:32, and Matthew 19:9. However, the wife in Matthew 5:31-32 is clearly not guilty of fornication because the Jews that Jesus was speaking to were still living under the law, and if fornication was discovered, there was a moral obligation to report the offender according to Deuteronomy 22:13-24. The wife, who would have been found guilty of fornication, was subsequently stoned to death, according to the law, which had still governed the Jews up until Christ's death on the cross. The same for a woman caught in adultery, according to Leviticus 20:10. How could a wife, guilty of fornication, or adultery, under the law of Moses, be given a writing of divorcement and be caused to commit adultery with whosoever marries her, that is divorced? Jesus is clear, in these examples, that the wife is not guilty of fornication, but is still caused to commit adultery if she marries another man now that she is divorced. This is the only way that Matthew 5:31-32, and Matthew 19:9 keep harmony with Romans 7:2-3, and 1 Corinthians 7:39. Unlike the synoptic gospels of Mark and Luke, which were written to evangelize the Gentiles, Matthew was written to the Jews, and has of 24 characteristics that identify it as intended for the house of Israel. The ancient Jews called the betrothed (engaged) "husband" and "wife" according to Deuteronomy 22:23-24, Matthew 1:18-25, and Luke 2:5-7. Deuteronomy 24:1-4 (Moses's precept of divorce and remarriage) was never for fornication or adultery. Allowing those guilty of fornication and adultery to remain living and become a prospect for remarriage was against the law of Moses in Deuteronomy 22:13-24 and Leviticus 20:10, which commanded that those who were found guilty of fornication and adultery be put away from Israel, and stoned to death. The law of Moses was not given to the world, only to the Jews. From the exodus, to Christ's death on the cross, the law of Moses governed the Jewish people. But when Jesus died on the cross, he caused the Jews to be dead to the law of Moses so they could be joined to Christ under a New Covenant. This is what Jesus's fulfillment of the law of Moses, including Deuteronomy 24:1-4 (Moses's precept of divorce and remarriage), means. Paul gave several warnings to Christian believers against keeping the law of Moses over following Christ and his commands under the New Covenant with Christ. Keeping the whole law is no longer possible for those in Israel and that is why Christ prophesied that the temple would be destroyed. These scriptures make it clear that if you choose the law over Christ, that you must keep the whole law: Romans 7:4, Galatians 3:1-9, Galatians 3:10-29, Galatians 4:1-7, Galatians 4:21-31, and Galatians 5:1-15. Being unequally yoked to unbelievers is not a cause for divorce, once two become one-flesh in a covenant of marriage, according to 1 Corinthians 7:12-14. Many one-flesh covenant marriages between unbelievers are recognized by God in the scriptures, most notably the marriage covenants between Herodias and King Herod's brother Philip, Potiphar and his wife, Ahab and Jezebel, and Ruth to her deceased husband Mahlon by Boaz when he took her to be his wife. Some are teaching that 1 Corinthians 7:15 implies that those who are abandoned by the unbeliever, are "no longer bound" in a one-flesh covenant of marriage. The reason this is in conflict is due to the way they word it, which gives it an entirely different meaning, and context. 1 Corinthians 7:15, says, "15But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace." As you can see, the actual scripture says "not under bondage," which means that the husband or wife is not enslaved to sin with the unbelieving spouse, and is free to worship Christ in peace. Subsequent translations have changed the words to imply that they nullify the marriage covenant, when this is not at all the case. The issue that this creates is with 1 Corinthians 7:10-11, which says, "10And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: 11But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife." As you can see, those who claim 1 Corinthians 7:15 has the Apostle Paul giving permission to remarry do not understand that the abandoned husband in 1 Corinthians 7:11 is expected to also remain unmarried, in order to be reconciled with his wife. The theory that 1 Corinthians 7:15 nullifies two as being one-flesh in marriage puts the Apostle Paul directly at odds with Christ, by implying that he has issued an opposing command. Some also teach that 1 Corinthians 7:27-28 is referring to both divorced men and virgin women, and not exclusively to men and women (virgins) who have never been married. This has been falsely taught for some time in churches as referring to anyone who is not currently in a marriage, which, for them, also includes those who are divorced. This is a very false assumption, and puts these verses in a different context, that is at odds with both the teachings of Christ and the apostle Paul. We see Paul refer to virgins, which signifies the unmarried who have never before been wed, which is the proper context here. We see Paul saying clearly that it is good for virgins, which is also speaking to never before wed men here, "that it is good for a man so to be." He goes on to say, "Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife." Who is he referring to here? Men who, like himself, have never married. The word "bound", in these verses, is a clear reference to betrothal (engagement) and not to a one-flesh covenant of marriage. The ancient Jews were considered bound as husband and wife during the betrothal (espousal/engagement) before becoming one-flesh in a covenant of marriage, through consummation. This is affirmed by the context of the term "bound" seen in Numbers 30:14-16. The Jewish couples in ancient Israel, who were betrothed (engaged) were also bound together until death, either by execution for fornication, or by other causes. Then Paul says, "But and if thou marry, thou has not sinned", which is who? The men who had never married in the congregation at Corinth. So he begins with verses 25-26 speaking exclusively to men that have never married. Paul then says, "and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned", which is speaking directly in regard to virgin women who have never been married, within the congregation, not divorced women. Notice that verse 34 says, "There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband." Paul speaks plainly when he says "there is a difference between a wife and a virgin." Paul goes on to say, "But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry." This is speaking of a virgin who has become of age to bear children when it says, "let them marry." This is a clear command, to a single man, who has taken a virgin to be his wife. Paul then says, "Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well." This is referring again to the single man who decides it is better not to marry, but to stay betrothed (engaged), under the present distress, by saying that he "hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin." Paul then says, "So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better", which again means single men, in the congregation, who have betrothed a wife, do well if they marry, and those who choose not to marry their virgin brides do better, under the current climate. For more proper context of the word "bound", let's look further down in this chapter to verse 39, which says, "39The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:39). For so long, these scriptures, between verses 25-38, have been twisted and used to enable divorce and remarriage, by wayward churches and teachers, and have caused many to stumble and to be trapped in unscriptural unions. The use of the woman at the well, in regard to marriage, falsely implies that Christ was endorsing remarriage after a divorce. This teaching is in defiance of Matthew 22:23-28, which shows a woman who had been widowed seven times, and entered into each subsequent marriage without any scriptural conflicts with God's law of marriage (one-flesh covenant) seen in Genesis 2:23-24. Mark 10:1-12 and Matthew 19:1-12 both record Christ's teaching that day beyond the Jordan. There is no mention of the words "fornication", "writing of divorcement", or "divorced" in Mark's Gospel, because Mark was not written to the Jews (as Matthew's Gospel was), but to evangelize the Romans and Greeks, who had no knowledge of the law of Moses in Deuteronomy 22 or Deuteronomy 24. All of these facts draw a clear understanding that remarriage after a divorce, under the New Covenant with Christ, is a scripturally false and baseless teaching. Please use wisdom when living in any situation against what the scriptures command.

wowowow!! having read all these comments...I must say that we all are still playing 'the judge'. this is the reason Jesus came to show us how much our 'intelligence or knowledge' is worthless b4 HIM. In as much as we claim to 'protect the word of God' or say 'its in the bible' , at the end of the day God has chosen his very own. whether we do this or dont do this. He who is born of God CANNOT SIN. The woman at the well had married 5 husbands and guess what? as far as God was concerned she was never married. even the one she was currently living with was not counted as her husband. do u think that the husband number one was her real and only legitimate husband?. Jesus tried at all times to make us know that all these LAWS are distraction. He has fulfilled them all.. Grace abounds. when they asked Him about divorce and the certificate by moses, he said....But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Jesus also responded to let man know that we must see that he has a better plan in salvation and grace which saves us from the bondage of the law...FREEDOM. we are just busy arguing about what is right or wrong or what Jesus said or didnt say and we are rili missing the whole point of jesus saying all these thing. all these arguments stemmed from the fact that the ppl argued and tried to test jesus to know what he will say. they asked HIM about fornication and adultery, trying to be smart..heres what jesus told them.. even when u look at a woman lustfully u have already committed adultery. They never saw it that way. they always tot its only when u actually have intercourse. but God is saying.."you think you are wise?" even when u look lustfully. this is not to say that Jesus had set a new rule that also says looking lustfully is sin.. yes it is sin by His standards but who will stand before him pure giving all his standards..even stndards we never knew existed. NO MAN CAN STAND. therfore Jesus is saying you think u know it all? now u have seen that ur righteousness is filthy. Stop this arguement and stop trying to "uphold the law' He does not need our help. when ever you feel compelled to do something and if u dont theres a punishment awaiting you or you feel guilty about something cos you are in the fence about your conscience, it means you have truely not accepted grace and you are still under the law. with the law you are not free. Salvation is freedom. Having said that, God has the final say and judgment on all and he is god of justice and fairness and grace. you cannot be on the fence about what to do when u are in an abusive relationship. @Nell Renee you have not been abused b4 so it is very wrong for you to say " the bible says NO DIVORCE NO DIVORCE..", you have not be raped by a husband b4, so you have no clue. You think God will not be fair and just in his judgment to his very own creation? and would cast her away bcause she left her husband? the God we serve is kind and graceful. Evangelist John reed honestly it might sound like oh your being attacked, but theres a higher level of understanding that God gives to pple that others might not understand. most times its hard to explain unless the holy spirit does the work. Its not ur job to explain as they may never get. with time pple begin to see things if God permits. Evg John actually has spoken the right words and it will take silence and inner understanding to get it. its not by " oh the bible says this or that." this is exactly what the pharisees did bcos they felt they knew it all and each time they tested Jesus, Jesus opened up more can or warms to make them see they were just being babes. see the story of the woman that committed adultery and was to be stonned, see the story of forgiveness 70 times 7, see the story of "if someone slaps you, turn the other cheek' Gods ways are not mans ways....plz guys relax and stop playing God or playing the interpreter of his word. The reason why people are split on this issue is because they cannot receive what God has said. It’s pretty straight forward, yet everyone tries to find loopholes through His Word. People want to feel good about their divorce, their reasons, feel good about 2nd and or 3rd or other non marriage relationships. Nobody wants to feel convicted or shame in how they are living their life, nor do they want to do the work to try to make things right with their former or current spouses before God.

@@DouglasNicholson-ff6ep Christ did NOT impose any new restrictions on divorce. Matthew 5:17-18 makes that very clear. That is unless Heaven and Earth have disappeared. If that did happen, then I guess I didn't get the memo or something. Per the LETTER of the Law, you could engage in all kinds of despicable conduct though it denies the SPIRIT of the Law. Per the letter of the Law, you could engage in horrendous verbal abuse and the Law would not charge you with murder - but Jesus called such conduct tantamount to murder (Matt 5:22) in the eyes of God. Per the letter of the Law, you could dump your wife on some trivial pretext to get with some hot girlie - but Jesus called that tantamount to adultery (Matt 5:32). You see, such conduct didn't magically become murder and adultery just because Jesus said so. It was always so. Right is right. Wrong is wrong. And pi is 3.14159... These things do not change. They never have changed, and never will. This is what so many people get wrong: Jesus condemned the act of divorcing just to marry someone you like better. It just happened. I sinned against God and have struggled with this fact because I know scripture is God-breathed and true. I have repented sincerely about this, just as I have about other sin in my life. However, the only way I can physically put right what I did wrong is to divorce my 2nd wife who I love so much. Brother, you can only be convinced of what God would have you do in order to be right with Him by the Word of God. Since we are all responsible for our own salvation, (Philippines 2:12), it is highly beneficial to read the Word for yourselves. Don't depend on hearing the Truth of remarriage by your pastor...most are not teaching it! I used to depend on sermons to teach me too, so i never knew...until someone LOVED me enough to point out these scriptures to me showing that I was on my way to hell. These scriptures teach that if you divorced and remarried then you will go to hell for adultery unless you repent and LEAVE THE SIN: 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 10 But for those who are married, I have a command that comes not from me, but from the Lord. A wife must not leave her husband. 11 But if she does leave him, let her REMAIN SINGLE or else be reconciled to him. And the husband must not leave his wife. *** GOD DOES PROVIDE A WAY FOR THE ABUSED....ONLY TWO OPTIONS...REMAIN SINGLE OR BE RECONCLED. Mark 10:10-12 10 Later, when he was alone with his disciples in the house, they brought up the subject again. 11 He told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits ADULTERY against her. 12 And if a woman divorces her husband and marries someone else, she commits ADULTERY.” Luke 16:18 18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth ADULTERY: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth ADULTERY. Romans 7:1-3 7 Now, dear brothers and sisters-you who are familiar with the law-don’t you know that the law applies only while a person is living? 2 For example, when a woman marries, the law binds her to her husband as long as he is alive. But if he dies, the laws of marriage no longer apply to her. 3 So while her husband is alive, she would be committing ADULTERY if she married another man. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and does not commit ADULTERY when she remarries. ***ONLY DEATH ENDS THE MARRIAGE COVENANT...THEN YOU ARE FREE TO MARRY, "BUT ONLY IN THE LORD Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: Revelation 2:5 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. Ezekiel 18:21-23 - But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. Proverbs 28:13 - He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

I think he said it right. That’s one of the mysteries of the Bible because it only pertains to the man. The man is the head of the household. The wife is sweet and submissive. The husband protects and cherishes his wife. But respect goes both ways. Matthew 5 Jesus said all is good in a marriage UNLESS one of them is unfaithful sexually, that’s the “out”.If a man then remarries a woman who is also divorced, it is adultery. Why is there no example of a woman committing sexual adultery and instructions on what a divorced woman can and cannot do? Mystery of sorts. You won’t lose your salvation or be doomed to hell because you remarry, you just gotta do it right according to scripture. Jesus said there is only one sin that cannot be forgiven which would eventually land you in the lake of fire. Adultery ain’t it. So people commenting here saying remarriage will cost your soul have not truly listened to what Jesus said. Be wise. Fast and pray.

The teachings of Jesus are clear and unambiguous-"Whosoever shall divorce his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall divorce her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery" (Mark 10:11, 12). 50 years ago for a Christian to divorce and remarry was considered the sin of living in a continual state of adultery. Christians, today, in India, for example, still believe the same thing (see Zac Poonen). Today most Evangelicals over the age of 50 consider sodomite marriage illegitimate and sinful, ( rightly so), but the majority of their offspring in the church, Gen X'rs and Millennials, according to statistics, do not believe sodomite "marriage" is sinful. Nonetheless, the Boomer generation in the last half of 20th century embraced divorce/remarriage which for 2000 years of Church history called sin. Slippery slope? 3 generations ago a Christian remarrying while the first spouse was alive was considered a sin. Today, this generation of Young People are embracing sodomite marriage and lifestyle using the same logic and arguments their parents used to justify their unbiblical and adulterous remarriages contrary to the very clear teachings of Jesus whom they claim to follow. "Of all the early recognized Church Fathers who ever wrote, all who were written about, concerning every discussion and every debate, in thousands of surviving documents, over hundreds of years, there is not a single dissenting authoritative voice on the essential core doctrines of marriage, divorce and remarriage. Each taught the same doctrine, each held the same opinion and each enforced the same morals standards" That is, no Divorce/Remarriage

@@pegc9889 Peg...Here is what the Lord has said regarding anyone who has a living spouse, divorces, and marries again while that first spouse is still living: 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 10 But for those who are married, I have a command that comes not from me, but from the Lord. 1 Corinthians 7:39 39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. ***ONLY DEATH ENDS THE MARRIAGE COVENANT...THEN YOU ARE FREE TO MARRY, "BUT ONLY IN THE LORD." Third: WHAT THE LORD SAYS IS THE CONSEQUENCE OF REMARRIAGE ( with still living Covenant spouse) 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: NEITHER FORNICATORS, nor idolaters, NOR ADULTERERS, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, SHALL INHERIT the kingdom of God. Proverbs 14:12 12 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death Peg, don't be decieved...God is NOT the one who joins together anyone in remarriage adultery. The only way to be granted repentance is to quit the sin that you are asking repentance for. If your child asked you to forgive them for lying would you believe they were really sorry if they continued lying to you? No...that is not from the heart....it is not sincere.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Jude 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Romans 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Ezekiel 18:20-32 20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. 23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord YHWH: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? 24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. 25 Yet ye say, The way of YHWH is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? 26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of YHWH is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal? 30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord YHWH. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. 31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord YHWH: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Matthew 11:20-24 20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: 21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. 23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. Mark 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Mark 6:12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent. Luke 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and _if he repent,_ forgive him. Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, _that your sins may be blotted out,_ when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles _granted repentance unto life._ Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance *God* winked at; but now *commandeth all men every where to repent:*

If you're being "legitimately" abused in your marriage it's absolutely the right thing to get rid of your abuser, and it's absolutely fine to marry someone else who is also unmarried (not separated because that is absolutely committing adultry ) but completely finished being divorced before you even think of that person as a possibility!!!

Is it a sin to remarry again? Because it involves an adulterous heart, Jesus taught that remarriage after divorce is a form of adultery. Remarrying after the death of your spouse is not a sin. However, the sin of adultery violates a marriage vow to the person who remains alive.

Until, I found myself walking on pins and needles etc. He was okay with that. Couples go through stuff. Until, I cried out to God. He didn’t want any help. I file for divorced four years ago. He remarried quickly. I stood single not dating. I love Jesus and will continue to do His work..With all that said I forgave him. Wish him well. While in the beginning God's pattern for marriage was that it would be permanent but then sin entered the world and as we go into the old testament and even Jesus quoted that in the beginning it was God's design that it would be permanent but because of man's heart hardening people did get divorced. I am familiar with all the NT passages myself being a pastor of a church for many years and a Christian of 50 years this teacher does misquote some things e.g 1 Corinthians 7 where Paul has been asked a simple question which was asked by new Christians. They asked Paul if it was still ok to be married to an unbeliever or would God now want them to separate. Paul said no stay with it for the reasons that he explained. Sadly many preachers use this passage as an answer for all types of marriage and divorce situations but it can not be used in such a way. Here is not the time for a big teaching but nearly every video I watch on this teaching many even go on to say that if you got married again then you are an adulterer and the marriage should cease. Jesus was asked if a man can put away his wife for "any" reason, any being an important word here where Jesus goes on to refer to God's original intention before sin. Jesus said that adultery would allow a man or woman to divorce. We see King David commit adultery and God forgives him and we see many Christians divorce because sometimes people just don't get on with each other and the marriage fails. When two Christians separate it is a sinful deed just like any sin being no more or less than any sinful deed. When we are saved our sinful nature is changed and we have a new nature but we are still going to do at times a sinful deed and miss the mark because we are still in the flesh. God knows this and the bible says that when we miss the mark that God is faithful and just to forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is the one truth that ALL these preachers fail to comfort the saints with that God forgives and when he does we are free to move on and marry again. Many preachers just make these laws and many now live confused about what God thinks and many left violent marriages or marriages that were so horrific that they could not stay. Does God then punish you for the rest of your life and make you live alone when he knows that he meets every human need through your husband or wife. No, no ,no, God is a God who forgives and allows us to move on but many say no he doesn't forgive divorce. Well then God doesn't forgive any sinful deed then. No God forgives and if you are reading this looking for answers because you are remarried or divorced know that God didn't want you to fail but if you confess to God that you missed the mark ( sinned) he is faithful to forgive and don't let anyone tell you otherwise because God's word is the authority and God forgives.
@zoezoe610

You miss read my meaning, My point is that the word as you say is true and agree with you but my point is that many leave out how God forgives and can cleanse you from all unrighteousness and build your life from that moment. My disagreement with some of these preachers is that most teach that if you have married again then you should go back to you first wife and be reconciled or remain single. I don't have any problem with what scripture teaches but leaving out the Grace of God to forgive as many do is incorrect. Grace is not a license to sin but because we all commit sinful deeds through our lives then Grace is what we need. God knows we will need his forgiveness and Grace all the way to heaven. So I do agree with what you would say and believe but it is how Grace is applied is where many who teach this make their mistake.

zoezoe610 I agree with you. There's so much confusion when it comes to this topic. My question to those who believe that the divorced person shouldn't be remarried- isn't it a sin too, if you decide to stay single yet having sex with someone? If God is a God of mercy and grace, should we not ask for forgiveness and move on? The last time I checked, the only unforgiving sin is blasphemy against the holy spirit.
@princedarius7224
@princedarius7224 8 жыл бұрын
zoezoe610, dont be confused. Ask Jesus for Guidance and He will give you light on the subject. Also LOOK at JOHN the BAPTIST who approached an "unsaved" man who "remarried" another "unsaved" mans wife. John the Baptist said to Herod "it is unlawful for you to have your brothers wife". You see Heroditus divorced her husband philip and married his brother Herod but in this instance and all instances of marriage WHETHER THE PERSON IS SAVED OR A SINNER, marriage is honored by GOD therefore we have evidence of this because John the Baptist correctly called Herodotus Philips wife, why? because God honors ONLY the first spouse as long as they live wether or not they are saved or a sinner. A silly question would be if "old things are passed away and all things become new" does that mean the day you get saved your current "proper" marriage is invalid? Using the "old things" scripture or other "forgivness" scriptures are not valid when it comes to a life-time covenant that God seals. Marriage is for life and whether you are save or unsaved God still honors and seals your FIRST marriage provided you married someone who was never married before either. This BOND is for LIFE, even after you become a Christian. --- Doctrinal Statements: Women Divorcing her Husband God has NO PROVISION for a women to DIVORCE a man, only to depart and remain unmarried or to return. ANY WOMEN DIVORCING her HUSBAND and REMARRYING will GO TO HELL for ADULTERY because a woman is joined unto her husband FOR LIFE until DEATH. Man Divorcing his Wife and Remarrying a new wife God has ONLY 1 PROVISION for a man to DIVORCE his wife and that is if BEFORE he FIRST has sex with her he EXAMINES HER HYMEN and finds that she is not a virgin (she's guilty of fornication). IN JEWISH TIMES MEN MARRIED VIRGIN's except in cases of WIDOWS so if a women was not a virgin "AS ADVERTISED" THEN and ONLY THEN can he put her away BEFORE his has sex with her, THATS why MEN "EXAMINED HER HYMEN" and had TOKENS OF HER VIRGINITY (a bloody cloth from open hymen). In America, this is still valid, if a Christian man marries a wife who said she was a virgin and before sex, he takes her to the doctor to EXAMIN her HYMEN to prove that at least she did not have "vaginal sex" with a man nor did she get HYMEN repair surgery. JESUS TAUGHT that THIS was the ONLY PROVISION for divorcing a women. The Grace/Forgiveness Deception: Many Christians have friends and family and even have preachers that are are happily "remarried" and they believe a DOCTRINE of a DEVIL can teach these false doctrines: FALSE DOCTRINE #1 God is a forgiving loving God who will not hold your past mistakes against you, even if you are remarried many times, repent for your sin of remarrying and stay in your current marriage because God hates divorce. FALSE DOCTRINE #2 God wants you happy and if you were abused by your former husband and remarried then God has blessed you with a new loving husband. FALSE DOCTRINE #3 Gods grace is so sufficient and great that all your sins are forgiven and your past is not remembered any longer so stay in the current marriage you are in now. FALSE DOCTRINE #4 You were abandoned so you are not under bondage, you can remarry. FALSE DOCTRINE #5 You repented of the divorce so stay married to your second spouse. FALSE DOCTRINE #6 Its complicated, you have children and a house together and God hates divorce so He has forgiven your second marriage, so stay together. FALSE DOCTRINE #7 Old things are passed away and ALL THINGS are become new, that means your old marriages are over and you can now be remarried. FALSE DOCTRINE #8 We are happy together and on fire for God even though its our third marriage. FALSE DOCTRINE #9 I wanted to reconcile with him but he is remarried so now i can remarry FALSE DOCTRINE #10 We divorced because of marital infidelity, He had an affair, i now have a new husband who is a preacher and he loves God and we are both pastoring a new church together to the Glory of God FALSE DOCTRINE #11 I divorced her because she had an affair, now i have a faithful good wife. Jesus Cancels ALL FALSE DOCTRINES concerning divorce and remarriage by making ONE OF THE GREATEST BIGGEST STATEMENTS OF ALL TIME: LUKE 16:17-18 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery. THIS MEANS THAT THE LAW OF REMARRIAGE IS SO UNCHANGEABLE, THAT ITS EASIER FOR THE EARTH AND THE HEAVENS TO BE DESTROYED THAN FOR GOD TO CHANGE HIS MIND ABOUT DIVORCE AND MARRIAGE Since its ALWAYS 100% "UNLAWFUL" to have "your brothers wife sexually" then to continue in ANY "remarriage" is UNLAWFUL and will result in the ADULTERERS losing their souls because they did not leave the sin of ADULTERY. --- Jesus said this is a crooked and perverse and "adulterous generation", all remarriage is Gods eyes not matter how good its presented is actually unlawful adultery and as long as they have sex and sleep together as a "remarried couple", they will die in their sins as adulterers. To the reader, marriage is for life and the author of marriage is God the Father, and all those who violate its life-time seal without repenting will perish in hell.

Nearly all of my 60 years I have been a Christian and been in many ministries and can say that I know how God repairs broken lives and sets people free from their sin. your confusing forgiveness with the law of marriage...God forgives all sin except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit... yes people can live in sin and be married then divorced BUT if anyone remarries it is ALWAYS adultery... you say God heals broken lives, yes He does but he does not allow a living spouse to divorce and "marry" and have sexual relationship against their one flesh covenant spouse. its a VERY touchy subject, and you have years of experience with broken and "mended" families BUT ANYONE who divorces and remarries, regardless of the backstory will be living in perpetual adultery as Jesus stated

The one flesh for life is not maintained, and the covenant promises are broken, when two or more foreign male organs penetrate the one wife. The one flesh is thereby defiled, and it is an abomination to God. God will not put up with "reconciliation after uncleanness." Read Deuteronomy 24:1 thru 4 to find out what "reconciliation after uncleanness" is, and find out for yourself what "uncleanness" is.

I look at this way we all make mistakes and God will forgive us. But remarrying when we all know its a sin after we all sin all time is just another sin added on your list. So i see it this way allow God to write your love story and dont try take control of your love life cuz your loney. Allow God fill that void u have and enjoy your singleness. Even if u have wait 30 years for God to send u your man or women than wait. You have be obedient. Im learning from other people i meet by them making mistakes and being human realizing they married the wrong person and them remarrying. They open my eyes and have me wanting stay be being patient and waiting on God to write my love story. Cuz our hearts, eyes, and lust we have will decieve us. We have to be paitent no matter old we are.😊 #GodFearing #Celibate #Strong

Well-said! I believe the ones trying to justify remarriage are just scared and do not know what it really means to trust God and to love Him because He first loved us. A covenant marriage reflects the covenant Jesus has with His Bride. That is why there are no reasons for divorce after marriage. We've committed adultery as a Body but does God say "I'm going to divorce you?" He was always making a way for Israel to reconcile herself back to him when she went astray. I am settled in my heart to remain single in this life from here on out and devote my life to Jesus, the only one I can trust to never leave me nor forsake me.

I have filed for “legal separation “ from my husband due to constant emotional abuse, lack of trust from his pornography viewing , his unwillingness to reconcile when we argue and content neglect. He was unfaithful 6 months ago and I felt as if I couldn’t live with him in the same home any longer. I do not want to divorce him and desire to reconcile our marriage which is why I went the legal separation route. I do not believe that God is upset with me or that I am in sin. My husband feels that going his route was a “cop out” to divorce but I believe there is a deference as we will still be legally married under God’s eyes and in the law. I am praying for clarity in my situation as he is saying he wants to reconcile but has made false promises before. He has never fully repented over his sins and continues to justify them which leaves me feeling hopeless and “just” in making the decision to separate.

Only one solution i can tell you. See when we love someone we expect the same love back from that person and if we dont get it back, it will fill negative emotions in our heart, then it is easy for satan to distroy our life and get way us form the path of saluation. The bible says love your God with all your heart mind soul and strength. Can we do this. In personal humen relationship actually we have only duties and resposibilities , not the above mentioned love. I dont know how many can understand what I mean. But i am sure that if you get it, the yoke of satan will break and You both can happily serve the lord. Love god and do duties given by god in humen relationship. The sin of the other person will not affect your salvation, not only that, when your pure love towards God changes your charector, that will automatically change the other person. I write this from my own life experience. We were in such a situation that you have . Now we r living happily. both of us love god and expecting great things from God, and try to keep on doing duties and responsibilities to each other and doing God ministry. What a wondeful peace that i got through lesson from God. Hop a saved person can understand it and lead somebody else to salvation, by understanding it. Amen.May God bless you and restore your family.

I always thought that Matt 5:32 , 19:9 allowed for divorce on the grounds of adultery. Me and my first wife divorced and I remarried and after 6 years im finding out that it was the church belief for 1800 years that marriage after divorce is adultry. But what makes my situation so hard is second wife recieved salvation and prayed for a husband then, a year later she met me and told me I was everything she prayed for. We talked about having kids and her aunt not knowing of our desire for kids prophesied we would have twins... then another person not know of anything told both me and my wife that he thought we would have a child and the Lord spoke to him and said... no they will have twins.

Jesus never taught against divorce. Jesus taught against Putting a faithful wife away not giving her a divorce. Putting away is not Divorce. When a person puts away a faithful wife means you are still married to the put away wife. But if you give your wife a writing of divorcement you nor she is married any longer. Therefore both are free to marry someone else. Duet. 24. Jesus taught under the Mosaic Law which taught Duet. 24. Therefore Jesus could not teach against divorce. Most new versions of Bible Translation change the meaning of Putting Aways to mean divorce and this is false. American Standard Version always gets it right. So does the Young's Literal Translation. The Bible says, let not man put asunder. It does not say man cannot put asunder. It is not Gods intention for married couples to divorce, but there are times when it happens anyway. So since God hates putting away as stated in The book of Malachi. It does not say divorce. Man has changed the Hebrew language here to divorce. God has told man to give your wife you no longer want as your wife so that she will have the proof that the guy no longer wants her as his wife. She is free to marry another. But a put away person is still married because a writing of divorcement releases both. Joseph could Put Mary away without a writing of divorcement because he thought she had committed fornication.

In OT, whenever a man slept with a non betrothed virgin. God commands the man to take the woman as his wife. The only case where they would not marry is if the Father of the woman is completely opposed to it. But he still has to pay the bride price of a virgin i,e. 30 Shekel at that time. If that is not the reason for what God intended people to get married over. Then I don't know another reason.

The trouble we are having is that church congregations do NOT support marriage for life any longer. The general view is that when a judge slams down their gavel, this also ends the covenant. Of course, if one considers this, it could not be further from the truth. Preachers preach marriage for life from the pulpit, but yet they allow adulterers to congregate in their church assembly, even encouraging remarriage in the majority of evangelical contexts. It is clear we are commanded NOT to company with rebellious sinners, who call themselves Christians 1 Cor. 5:11, but yet the church welcomes them into their fellowship, with open arms and some even allow them to company with the singles ministry. Church assemblies often remarry folks who's spouse is still alive. The effect of this disobedience is clearly on display for all to see. The reality is this: THE CHURCH LOOKS JUST LIKE THE WORLD. The church is supposed to be transformed by the renewing of the mind, not conformed to this world. If you track HISTORY on the matter, you will see that when the church allowed the secular courts to break up marriages and families, that clearly this was the beginning of the end of MARRIAGE as we should know it.

I have felt punished beyond measure for the other persons actions... Over and over again x10. Its crazy really? I must admit my faith in any type of reconciliation is implausible. I personally think that this person has so much DNA in their system from other men that it has corrupted their mind to the point they are beyond recognition. The only thing that I know is true is that God is the only one who can save this person. God bless any and all going through a partner who commits infidelity. The person becomes addicted to it..... And it is next to impossible for them to stop. Walk in Gods light and walk away. Save yourself, faith and spirit.

Jedro - when it seems the person is "addicted" to infidelity you must consider narcissism. Learn about it and see if it fits. If it does, just know, it's a demonic spell and you yourself (by yourself) can not break it. There are more living under this spell than you might imagine. I hope this past year has helped you get over this. "Put away" does not mean divorce. The devil has many preachers and teachers convinced that what they were taught is true but they won't bother looking up the words themselves. It's just like doctors who are so very brainwashed that they can't think outside the pharmabox. One is exactly the same as the other - when the devil is the teacher, it's not teaching, it's inDOCtrination.

I disagree with the abuse factor side. My step mother was verbally and physically abused over and over by her previous husband. Her pastor told her to submit to her husband. If she hadn't left the marriage she may be dead today. God made woman to be his equal, not to be tortured belittled and beaten. She is one of the greatest Christian women I've had in my life. My mother(non Christian or non fully believing Christian) left my father(Christian), and my father tried to save the marriage but she wanted nothing to do with it. Father and step mother now married to eachother have one of the most beautiful Christian marriages and walk together with Christ I have seen. There marriage together has become their ministry for God. As a result she still suffers strongly from PTSD Depression and Anxiety, and they have been put together to serve their ministry of what unconditional Love is. Im sure the focal point is when 2 Christians are married they should not remarry if they divorce, that I can understand. But I think certain circumstances change what's permissible and not. Regardless, all of our sins are forgiven even if someone remarries. Also if there's anyone out there wants to read a memior of what a Christian Marriage looks like with dealing with Anxiety Depression and PTSD look up Through the Lens of a Spouse by David McCormick on Amazon. Was designed for the Church and others who suffer. Love the channel and the teachings on here from what I've seen grounded in biblical doctrine. God bless.

I only ended up leaving him because i had a daughter to him 6months at the time… i didn’t want her to go through the same treatment. Anyway, after communicating with him over the phone for several months, (hadn’t met him in person again ) he started to reveal his old self again. The man had not changed. Every divorced person, believer or unbeliever has a story for WHY the divorce took place, be it for biblical reasons or not. However, the scriptures DOES NOT change to accommodate the choices that we freely make concerning our lives. OBVIOUSLY NO ONE SHOULD REMAIN WITH A PERSON OR SPOUSE THAT IS ABUSIVE. That's common sense. REMOVE yourself from it. God doesn't call you stay in a marriage which can lead ultimately to death. HOWEVER, while many will divorce for reasons such as this, the BIBLE is clear on its instructions... if you depart or if you are put away, REMAIN SINGLE OR RECONCILE. Now obviously, if reconciliation is possible, it will be with a spouse, who has CLEARLY exhibited repentance, and beyond a shadow of a doubt, a turn back to the Lord, and wants to be reconciled back to the spouse. NOT RECONCILED back to someone who abuses you. Lets be for real. Stop using abuse and all these other excuses to REMaRRY. The fact of the matter is, God gives us free will, YOU CHOOSE,, HE JOINS IT. First time marriages, believers or NOT, is a COVENANT UNTO DEATH. YOU CAN TRY TO JUSTIFY ALL YOU WANT, and WITH EVERY EXCUSE AND REASON IN THE WORLD, TO REMARRY, BUT IN THE END SCRIPTURES DONT CHANGE.

Remarriage is not scriptural for any reason except after the death of one’s spouse. Even if one spouse is guilty of sexual immorality. The exception clause is stated ONLY for the question of divorce, NOT remarriage. Plus Jesus was answering their question in regards to Moses’ law, not Christianity. Paul states in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 that separation or reconciliation are the only two options because you are BOUND TILL DEATH, 1 Corinthians 7:39, Romans 7:1-3. Remarriage is not part of God’s plan for forgiveness, reconciliation, or redemption. Remarriage, if your spouse is still living, is done purely out of fleshly and worldly desires. JEREMIAH 3:8 ... "I gave faithless Israel her certificate of divorce and sent her away because of all her adulteries." . Even God Himself has been divorced and remarried ... Was this a sin ? HELL NO !!!!! . In the book of Malachi, God has said "I hate divorce". But let's look at that very closely ... The actual term used there in the Hebrew is a word meaning "to cast away" or "to abandon" without means ... the putting away or casting away of the wife (This was illegal). . Jesus said when a man casts away his wife without a legal divorce, then he commits adultery with the next woman he is with (Matt 19:9). That is what God hates, because it leads to more sin and more condemnation. . Therefore, a "writ of divorce" was sanctioned under the Jewish Law. This required the husband to give compensation to keep her from becoming destitute. This "writ of divorce" was also a legal means for allowing future remarrying, for both the man and the woman. . With this said, I do not encourage divorce (unless cheating or abuse are involved), I do not shame or condemn someone who has been divorced, and neither does God. I do not believe divorce disqualifies anyone from serving in the ministry. .

DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE Type A or B. It is written, “And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: 11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.” - 1 Corinthians 7:10, 11 A. The Moses precept of Divorce applies in grace. B. The Moses precept of Divorce is now void and marriage in grace is like God put together in the beginning.
