The AC has been out on my 54 FORD for several years now. So I finally took the time to find the leak and make the repairs. In this video I explain how the system works and the process the 134A goes through. The principles of how this retro fit 134A system works on this 54 Ford are the same as they are today. The components are still basically the same and the process by which it makes the air cold are the same.

Very good video . Nice 54 Ford . What did you have to do to get the sbc ( 327 flags ) to fit ? I'm looking at a really decent 50 Ford 2-door sedan and want to install a 355 Chevy engine . If I remember the tie-rod assembly is a problem area for the oil pan ( been a couple decades and several street rod builds since working on a shoe box ) . Thanks , great video and really nice 54 Ford .

The flags fit the factory ford V8 emblem holes. The 327 one below the flags is separate, I installed the flags, laid out masking tape below it marked it and drilled it. The paint was about a week old when I did that. On the oil pan you need a Pan for a Chevy II front sump. And to get the engine to fit we made some flat mounting plates that bolt to the factory mount points which moved the mounting point forward, then put the mounts on the engine set them in place to make sure the engine is positioned good side to side and front to back. With the transmission we just got lucky. It’s a 700r4 and when we went to test mount the engine and had the transmission attached. We set them in place and went underneath to see where the transmission was going to land. It put the transmission mount dead center of the factory cross member. I drilled 1 hole and the transmission was done.

I’ve got a vintage ac system in my 67 c10 and see vent temps around 48-51, is that normal for hot climates? It also seems to run Warmer at highway speeds and colder around town which I find odd. Like your channel

48-51 is good for vent temps. That does seem odd that it’s cooler in town. I would want to check for air leaks in the fresh air system and door seals/gaskets. It doesn’t take very much to over come the ability of the AC to dissipate heat. You also would be wise to check the heater control valve and make sure it’s sealing off 100%. I have also run into that. Driving down the road it would pump more water and let coolant push past the valve.

@@RealWorldGarage thank you I’m relieved to hear my temps are good. I’m actually not running heater in my system. South Texas never sees much of a winter. I’ll double check for leaks. Thank you
