Advice for Creating New NP Mentorship Programs

Great presentation. Thank you for all the information you make available. I’m actually not trying to start a mentorship program myself but deciding wether I should do a fellowship right now and would really appreciate your feedback on this. I am a new grad (2023). I’m still looking for a job but very difficult in my area, big city with lots of people trying to get jobs. Now, have been off the bedside as a nurse for about 3 years due to pregnancy and then school. Even though I am applying to jobs I am afraid of la ding one due to my lack of contact with patients recently. Do you think it would be best to do this 1 year fellowship in primary care which could also result in a position offering? Thanky ou so much

There are definitely people who get jobs after several months/a year outside of graduation without a fellowship/residency program, but if you have that option it would almost definitely help your stress level and help you feel more supported in your new role (which is super important for all new NPs, but may be an extra boost since you’ve been away from school for a bit). The main down sides are competitive/more limited position options and at times reduced salary. Best of luck!
