Stephen Hendry's Cue Tips

Reanne Evans tries to complete the Tough Table Challenge on her practice at midlands at Kingswinford Snooker Centre. Reanne easily passes Steve Davis' effort as she challenges the top performers and delivers a high score. We've seen a few of you out there having a go at the Tough Table Challenge, so thanks so much for getting involved; we'll hopefully feature these soon!

@@jackybogues2495 your probably right in that sense, was more reference the fact that she has brought the women's game to more people's eyes and it's good to see her talent on the big screen. She must have some reason to be this way with Allen, seems a cool customer in this clip.

Agree, must be a reason they don't click. Hard to understand as an outsider looking in. She seems to down to earth as a person to have issues. Again could be she is well media trained or Allen is a different person off the circuit. Either way I think both are great for the sport and Allen is lighting it up at the moment.

Are you sure about that ? She failed to shake hands with Mark Allen before a game, unthinkable in the man's game, even the biggest rivalries and player's that genuinely dislike each other don't do that. I really don't think she's nice person, sportsman, or example to women.

She is a class act! She practices in my regular snooker club. Always play on the one behind the one they were playing on as that is reserved for Reanne. Always see her smiling, and got a selfie with her not too long ago. In terms of what she brings to the table she is class act. Just a shame that her incredible history and the most ever champions one would never be as recognised as much as the men’s triumphs. IMO she is world class. And if this mail/ female gender gap was a thing of history then Reanne would have an amazing bank balance that would even take on Ronnies. She’s a legend at her club and teachers all the youngsters. Next time in I’m going to challenge her to a match. She’s woop my ass but at then I could say I played with the greatest female snooker player of all time. Her records speak for themselves. Great video. 👍🏻.

Great effort there. My one question to Reanne would be... Why are there not more women players in and at the top of the game? I'd ask that because it's not like snooker is a contact or volley type sport, it's turn based so there's no emphasis put on strength where us guys can use it to any advantage. Thoughts Stephen or anyone at Cue tips?
@seanhickin9959
@seanhickin9959 Жыл бұрын
they lack the strength needed for breaking the pack and such and in longer frames and matches they will lack the endurance the men have and because they aren't good enough, there isn't any scenario where a woman will be the top of any level in any sport if they are mixed with men they just lack what men have and if men and women play together women will never win anything
@workrestandplaysnooker
@workrestandplaysnooker Жыл бұрын
@@seanhickin9959 the only time I can think a player needs strength to play a shot is a table length screw back, and even then there's only a handful of people that can do it on the main tour! Splitting the pack only needs good timing on the cue ball...and a degree of luck

I think there are a few factors. Generally the female players are smaller meaning just reaching some of the shots is more awkward or in some cases not even possible. There was a hint of that in this vid where at one point Reanne considered a shot and then said she wasn't tall enough. Often the ladies need to use the rest for shots that a male player would reach with ease. There have been smaller male players that have done very well in the game e.g. Brecel and Dott, but the top female players are often much smaller than them. The next thing is physical strength. On the face of it snooker isn't a physical game but at the highest level the top players rely on cue power a lot. For example when they finish virtually straight on a ball and need to force the cue ball to get to the next pot there is a lot of cue power used. The female players generally don't have the power needed for some of the shots played by the male players. So that's two physical reasons - reach and strength - why the female players are disadvantaged by being unable to play the range of shots that male players can. I think there are psychological reasons as well. Again I thought that was slightly evident in this video. It seemed like on that first effort Reanne felt under a lot of pressure to prove that she was good enough. Having made a decent score the first time she seemed more relaxed on the second attempt. Having watched a few matches with the female players I feel they can appear less relaxed, like they are having to prove themselves more than the men. Finally, in my experience snooker halls are pretty male environments with girls and ladies being significantly in the minority and sometimes not present at all. It's rare that I ever see a group of female friends playing. When I see female players they tend to be with a male friend or relative. The pool of female players who could become pros is therefore much smaller than the pool of male players. And while a teenage boy with huge snooker talent can look at the top 16 and think 'that could be me one day', it could be discouraging for a hugely talented teenage girl that there has never been a female player at the very top of the game.
@robertl426
@robertl426 Жыл бұрын
I was going to ask the same question. The only physical advantage men have in snooker is average height and reach. Cue power is mostly timing rather than physical strength. It's probably due to most snooker clubs being male dominated, and women not feeling comfortable in that environment. Having said that, Reanne is a multiple time womens world champion, yet can barely compete on the main tour with the men, and I don't know why. In something like tennis, it's obvious that women cannot compete with men, but snooker is one of the few sports where they can. Hopefully in the future snooker will have some women competing at the highest level, I see no reason why they can't.
