@@Krescentwolf From what I recall of the story the teachers (and the deceased father/son of the duet) came from Sharlyan and that's partially why we had to fend off assassins since Sharlyan didn't want to share knowledge. Even the noble fellow we talked to for the first while had to fight to promote the addition to Ishgard's astrology because Ishgard was very much curmudgeonly "We don't need no new fangled methods!" - not unlike the machinist storyline.

It makes sense to reuse old mechanics. Sometimes they're removed to improve cohesion and class thematics. But if you're going to remove mechanics, you might as well use them as the basis for future jobs. This makes me think that a DOT mage will be coming in the next expansion now that Summoner has gone full summons.

I hope for Sage we get some really different looking weapons likes orbs, crystals/stones, saucers, disk and more gun looking weapons. Orbs, crystals and stones would allow for more traditional looking mage weapons when the saucers, disk and guns would fit with the general look and more modern looks. Honestly, while people will be grinding lvls for the new jobs, explore areas and features, and just doing the MSQ. The first thing I will probably do is run up to a Market Board and check out all the gear. It's always the same since HW. 3 - 5 hours into the expansion: Friends - "How far are you?" Me - "Oh I just got done looking at all the dps gear and weapons. Looking at the tank gear now."

Disembowel was the debuff old DRG had to keep on the target. Heavy thrust had the damage increased buff applied to themself to also keep up.

Nitpicking: Heavy Thrust was just a buff you needed to maintain on yourself every other combo. That was folded into new Disembowel. The old Disembowel was the one that you had to keep up on the target. What was problematic about it was how crucial Bard was to a group, and because Disembowel was a piercing resistance decrease, dragoon became crucial as well.

I think what's genius about Sage is how they incorporated the GCD's for Eukrasia to makeup for the cast time you would've spent from hard casting a skill. For example, casting a Diagnosis is 1.5 seconds leaving you a single weave window after. However Eukrasia is 1 seconds but eukrasian diagnosis is instant + animation lock(that .5 seconds), so either way of this, you're getting a single weave window and that's so big brain of them to make.

I think Sage has a gap closer because of Phlegma being point blank. It's meant to be used in burst windows. Every odd Trick will have two Phlegma, while each even one will have one. Sage seems really good. It just needs Toxicon's potency doubled to equal two casts of Dosis since trying to get Adder's Sting stacks right now is a DPS loss, and it's even worse if it hits that crit shield. Edit: Spell Speed Sage might be extremely viable due to the Cardia system pumping out more heals.

Oh man, I didn't realize phlegma had such short range until you pointed it out, sage could really end up in some awkward spots where there are no good mobility tools available since their only other instant cast damage spells are toxicon and their dot, both of which have quite limited uses. It'll be cool if the gap closer can be weaved after dosis, that could alleviate the issue in some cases. Also eukrasian diagnosis is actually instant cast, so if you can rely on the shield breaking, it can be sort of like two instant cast gcds for the price of one.

Well, you lose 330 potency from casting the single target shield instead of Dosis. If Toxicon had double the potency, then there would be nearly zero loss for casting a GCD shield then using Toxicon, except it costing 200 more MP (1000 MP Cost but reduced by 400 since Toxicon has no cost) So you could spam the single target GCD shield for no real loss which I don't think is good. I think their intention with Toxicon was that it would firstly help reduce the MP cost of the spell, second, it's an AoE which can be helpful in dungeons and bosses with adds, and third, it's an instant cast, allowing lots of movement and 2 weave windows. That all said, I do think the potency should be higher, but I think doubling it is going a bit too high in my opinion. I would personally like it to be akin to Blood Lily. Using 3 lilies + Blood Lily is a DPS loss over casting 4 Glares, but it still greatly helps close the gap from using GCD heals.

@@bnhearyza4767 WHM currently don't like that Misery isn't truly DPS neutral. Toxicon not being DPS neutral removes the incentive to try and use shields as SE intends: to absorb a big hit. It won't be viable to sit there and continuously spam E. Diagnosis due to the MP cost, just like it's not viable now for SCH to try and maintain Galvanize. However, if I'm using E. Diagnosis to help absorb a tank buster, like SE wants me to, I trade a cost of Dosis during downtime to gain an extra Dosis during buff windows. Toxicon currently only incentives me to use shields during moments I can't hit the boss and know that they'll be broken anyway. Misery not being DPS neutral has this same problem where Lilies go mostly unused since it's a DPS loss in most situations. You don't want to discourage the use of major mechanics of a job.

I could be wrong, but I think Heavy Thrust uptime in 2.0 was related to making sure positional requirements were met to get the buff, so things rotating a lot caused you to have to use it multiple times in hectic fights. I'm sure they removed it prior to not needing to meet positional requirements for buffs when potency differences were also pretty substantial (monk also struggled with this).

I think it could also come down to the SCH buff vs the DPS difference between SGE / SCH. The kits look very similar, potentially with SCH having the better Barrier Healer kit (or at least bigger shields) I currently play SCH (and plan to move to SGE) and the main issue compared to SGE is the 'sexiness' - although as a form DiscPriest main I am very pumped to play the 14 version.

@@dylndmg I agree though my personal problem is more the speed. The Cooldown on the oGCDs are way too long for me and Edge/Flood aren't able to be used enough due to lack of MP generation. It also feels like- to me- DRK got the short end of the stick again in EW. I've come to accept the job will likely stay this way and it's no longer for me.

Thanks for the vid. I really appreciate how GCD centric Reaper is, as someone who really likes Black Mage and several WoW dps classes. I get annoyed how theres kind of a trend with FFXIV classes where your GCD attacks are just sort of rote "ofc you do this right now" and all the actual decisions are in oGCDs. Its kind of crazy how spammy DRK is with 1-2-3. But in contrast, I really like how Reaper seems and also how it has flexible resources, and I think im going to love it a lot like black mage. Its nice to see the FFXIV devs try different stuff with Reaper/Sage and Dancer.

I can't wait for Sage, it looks and sounds soo cool, the theme and lore are amazing, and even though I was never a fan of Disc Priest in WoW I know I will definitely be maining Sage. There's plenty of opportunities for amazing cross-overs with the Sage nouliths. Other than the obvious Gundam stuff for Sage, I'd love it if there was an Evangelion crossover, where Dragoon could get the Lance of Longinus, Sage could get Unit-13 RS Hoppers, Machinist could get Queen glamours of some of the EVAs.

I am so excited to play reaper. It's become tradition for me to lvl a new job at the start of each expansion and go through the msq as it. I wasnt sure I would do the msq as reaper, but after all these media tour videos it looks loads of fun. As for sage, I really didn't care for it at first, but after your videos on it it looks loads of fun and Im really excited for it too. I miss old DRK and my first thoughts was that sage reminds me of that. Thanks for your videos larry!

For Reaper, isn't Shadow of Death essentially just what Disembowel is now for DRG? Instead of being a buff for the RPR though it's a debuff for the enemy but essentially works the same way? Great video Larry

Not really. Shadow of Death is not part of the combo much like Heavy Thrust was for drg back then. Drg had both heavy thrust and disembowel back then, that and the standalone nature of the skill is why the comparison is drawn.

Shadow of death is not included in any combo so you can very easily reapply it. It can be extended to 60 seconds duration too. Also if an enemy dies with it on (which will happen constantly in dungeons) you get 10 soul gauge. That will speed up the builder part immensely. Sounds like so much fun.

I definitely shifted to finally level Scholar (and Summoner) for Endwalker because of Sage (wanted to get to be a decent healer before the class launched, as well as the easy levels for both magic DPS and healer job roles in SHB), and I'm on board with the Gundam style that they have applied to it. Overall, love your gushing about this game as we approach its release. The enthusiasm really sells these two new classes.

Hm... After thinking about, I think I can agree that Eukrasia functions a _bit_ like Dark Arts, except without any of the problems that caused Dark Arts be removed. It only works for a handful of actions, and it fundamentally changes those actions, so you only use it when you need those specific actions. Dark Arts was usable with almost everything, and the Dark Arts'd actions would be strictly better versions of themselves. Therefore you would basically just use that button before every action, basically making it an empty OGCD.

I always love your enthusiasm. It’s great and it makes me even more excited. As, a healer main I will always love Scholar but, I have been ready to advance into Sage. I can’t wait to fly into Sage zones and DPS to heal a bit. This is my kind of healer also, because it gives options and like Scholar being a tactical healer. I think new people are fine to pick it up but, take the time like I did to learn like Scholar because when it flows you can keep up with heals and dos just put effort because I think I’m one good Scholar. I watched the Sage video you did and spent a large chunk of time wondering why such a huge number of names were related not just to healing or medicine, but specifically to the digestive tract. Like, chole is a Greek prefix they've turned into a suffix here meaning 'bile' or 'gall'. Which means spells like 'Taurochole' is just... bull bile. Tasty. And pepsis is Greek for digestion (think of peptic ulcers), phelgma is greek for 'to burn' or indigestion (it's also where we get the word phlegm, so), eukrasia is the mixture of humors... Like, this is just a very Greek job, and one that is super into the gut especially. Look, all I'm saying is that Sage is most likely job to perform a colonoscopy on you.

1:58 DRG's Heavy Thrust got removed in ShB, but the always-upkeep damage buff was placed on Disembowel instead. It's getting some rework in EW so that you can keep it up in your AoE rotation too.

Next expansion we will get a repurposed G-Warrior we temporarily summon and pilot either as our stage three limit break or as temporary summon we pilot that maximizes all our healing, barriers and attacking with more little pew pew circling around us.

I rly think ninja will get multiple bunshins that are basically living shadow on 7.0 doing their different ninjutsu strings. And hearth of corundum and holy sheltron will get a reward after being used that rewards a cartidge and magic dmg boost respectively.

Egeiro is literally Greek for raise lol. Dark Arts for a healer is an incredible idea, and love Larry's line AoE heal idea. Is that headgear a Cyclops visor?! I thought it was just a circlet! And I initially thought reaper was a dumb idea for a job but it looks like the funnest most different melee job of them all, I love how far it strays from the 1-2-3 combo to the point where that becomes the vestigial pinky toe of the job.

Toxikon doesn't need increased potency to do on single target. That would be pretty bad. Its purpose being a 0 MP move as a pseudo MP rebate for the 1000 you just spent on Eukrasia Diagnosis. If you're already high MP because of Lucid/spending Addersgall, then you can hold charges and stretch them out.

So they removed Heavy Thrust as a separate skill, the buff it gave still exists in a form on Disembowel and it still needs to be kept up at all times to not gimp your damage.

My biggest fear for Reaper rn is that it is a 90% GCD job... without a GCD speed increase. From some basic tests (basically, I just used MCH and pressed buttons very roughly in a reaper manner) it feels incredibly slow at 2.47 gcd. It almost feels Warrior terrible. Hopefully that feeling will be wrong...

Sage summons a hologram Yggdrasil/tree of life over the field, with a representation of data moving across the floor and into its roots. Reaper summons their voidsent, they criss-cross dash attacks across the target twice, then fuse together, jump up, and slam the giant red scythe blade into the target like Zenos did in the benchmark.

So most (if not all) of sage's spell names are Greek. Since some are related to medical stuff,some words are already used in English. --- As an example from the Greek means "To recognise the nature and the cause of a certain phenomenon (huh,another greek word). --- from the Greek means "the prediction of the evolution of a situation or some events , based on the correct assessment of certain data" or the medical "the prediction of the progression of a disease". At this point I would like to say that means . A personal note here: I think was a nice name for a big shield taking into consideration the meaning of the word in Greek and not for an AoE heal as it is currently. --- from the Greek means a lot of things like "human soul" , "human mind" , "spirit" and many other --- from the Greek means "salvation" or "discharge , release from a difficult situation, danger or illness" --- from the Greek means "the heart" and sometimes used also like "at the centre" (he was at the heart of what happened) --- About and : They are based on the word which derives from and means "mix, combine". The pronouns and are showing the nature of the word,if it is good (or in this case "healthy") or bad (or in this case "unhealthy). So to summerize means "good health , good physical condition of the body" and means "bad condition of an organism". --- is kind of a surprise to me. It means "Digestion, the process in which denatured the food into useful substances in the stomach". I guess they associate it with "eating" the shields and healing the player instead? I am not sure. --- means "the natural world , the creation , everything inorganic and organic -including man- that exists and changes independently of the human will" or "the deeper and specific nature of a person or thing". Ofc from the same word comes the known word and everything related --- basically means "apathy" (another greek word) but in Greece it is mostly used for "a viscous substance that resembles snout and is excreted through the mouth as sputum" :D --- its actually the known word of "Dose" meaning "smaller parts" --- means "I raise, I project" --- Lastly about the spells , , , I'm sorry but I don't know. What I know is is basically "the bull" (taurens from WoW) and means anatomically "the gallbladder" , or metaphorically "evil", or in the spoken language "bile". PS:I'm just a dude,a musician and a gamer,not some language teacher so take this into consideration.

Reaper has me slightly concerned as to where their story will go, I can't say I'm particularly psyched about binding myself to a Void Venom and feeding it the soul of whatever poor sod got in my way, but I am very eager to see it! As for Sage, might be the first Healer I actually play. I don't usually enjoy the playstyle, but that may be changing. Out of sheer curiosity and only if it's something you CAN share, any idea what Crafter handles their weapons? I'm betting Alchemist or Goldsmith for Nouliths, and Carpenter and Blacksmith for Reaper.

Sage definitely seems like the healer for people who don't like playing a healer. Since it has the whole "deal damage to heal an ally" thing, you can probably play more like a dps while still doing your job.

The thing about Heavy Thrust that everyone hated was that it was clunky as hell. It didn't lead to any combos, didn't add to the Blood of the Dragon meter, and worst of all it broke combos if performed in the middle of one. It was this waste of precious damage up time that'd be better spent on moves and combo actions that actually contributed to your primary resource. Baking its debuff into disembowel to streamline the rotation was one of the best things to ever happen to DRG. With Shadow of Death, in the very least it also adds to the Soul Gauge so its not just annoyingly there as a necessary but awkward button to press just to do the damage you're supposed to, but rather at least contributes to your primary resource gain. hopefully as well it also won't break combo actions, so it can flow into a rotation a bit easier. It'd be strange if it was the second coming of Heavy Thrust complete with awkwardness, since they've doubled down so much on streamlining mechanics the past expansion, so I have to believe Shadow of Death will reflect more modern design cues like that.

I'm still curious how's Alphy gonna do the job transition. Maybe he'll go his way/stay in Sharlayan at the beginning of the msq and come back later as a sage with his new outfit, or offscreen changed between expansions like the other scions did, tho that'd feel just a little cheap since there wasn't even a foreshadow to it so far.
