If I had known we had our own built-in loudness meter, I wouldn't have installed Youlean. Edit: No hate on Youlean. It's just that I don't see the point in installing third party plugins (specifically for loudness meters, spectograms, visualizers and other plugins that don't really impart anything to the sound) if I can get it as a stock.

ALT drag on that thin line. Neat. I need to watch some more automation item stuff. And kudos to the author of the JS Loudness plugin for including all those exceptionally useful options. I usually just need a barebones momentary indicator, just like I always just needed my old stereo RTW meter(1206 iirc) right below my video monitor when mixing. Thank you for the slick presentation. The idea of using the LUFs envelope to do a kind of compression really helped me to understand what compression is doing better than I ever have before! It's really cool to see it in that way. Hi thanks you so much for your channel - I am excited about getting into Reaper as my first DAW. Can I please ask a question related to your previous videos of 'Drum Machine Style MIDI Recording' and 'Multi-Channel Output for the Drum Machine'? I am wondering if there is any way to use Reaper as a drum machine where I can choose and change multiple different loops in real time whilst recording them in Reaper? Or, do I have to use a separate vst drummachine plugin to do this and just use Reaper as a recorder? Any help from anyone would be highly appreciated. So far the only DAW that appears to do this is Ableton Live which I am not attracted to.

thanks for the great content. I have a question about "dry run" feature and "Loudness meter plugin". The former seems also to give us an idea of the value of LUFS-I of the entire track. If so, what is the use case of Loudness meter plugin actually? Also, I tried firstly to adjust volume of master track based on loudness meter plugin to be arounf -14LUFS-I. But when I check dry-run, it says that the value is roughly -12.1 LUFS-I ....Why are there such differences. Did I miss anything?

Hi Kenny, another very usefull tutorial! I'm wondering if I can integrate (my own choice of) Lufs values in my masterbus fader view, for instance next to or instead of RME values? Normaly I'd just try it out first, but I'm not able to use my studio for a while, so just curious. I like the idea of having yellow or red lufs flags to warn you during mixing - or even tracking - without the need of a separate plugin window.

Might be a daft question but rather than use a volume plug in why not just nudge the master volume down a little to avoid the peaks?

That would accomplish the same thing but master FX are pre-fader so the change would not show up in the metering FX.

@@globecanvas thanks for this John. Very helpful. I tend to not use the master bus too much other than a bit of M/S eq. I tend to deal with these type of “global” issues later on when mastering the stereo mix down file. Food for thought though and another gem / nugget from Kenny!

I'm using this JS: Loudness Meter Plugin (LUFS) in REAPER and it apprears to be BETWEEN the output of the track level controls(s) and the input to the master out level control such that changes in the master volume are not reflected in the LUFS meter. So this meter is of no use in determning the LUFS-I level of the final render. Is there a way to monitor the master output with this plug-in?
