Love that tip at the end. It's easy to think that everything will go faster if everything is customized. But that's also your brain making excuses why you're not more productive and it also allows you to get distracted. Some things should be customized. But not everything.

The coolest thing about Reaper is that you find zero negativity in the comments of a Reaper video. Also the Reaper teachers like Kenny, Jon, Mike, Ayra etc. are cheering the videos of others. Proof can be found in any Reaper video. And: Well done again in this video Alejandro!!

I did the jump-in method and started creating decent mixes right away. It's that good. Later, you realize the insane depth and what you can do, and like... it's free... So I bought a license!

I tried to learn Reaper several times but decided to actually jump in and use it when I had to edit a lot of podcasts. It took me a day or two to setup everything but it saved me weeks of working time because Reaper can change the speed rate, remove silence on different tracks simultaneously and cut time with a crossfade with one key! Your tutorials helped me a lot!

I defected to Reaper once support for my digi002 died off (and then the hardware also died). I also got an RME babyface Pro FS and knew reaper would work with it. I've barely scratched the surface of all that Reaper is capable of but I'm getting more done with less issues than I ever had with my previous DAW. I absolutely love it!

5:35 this is extremely sage advice. For those of us with Tweak Fever/more structure-seeking brains, optimizing your workflow and setting your creative space up correctly is both a godsend, and a poison apple. I find every hour I spend making templates/creating shortcuts/actions actually takes AWAY my creative spark for a short while. This is okay, if you are committed to remembering that the reason you're doing that stuff is to MAKE MUSIC! Years back, I spent months setting up a 1000+ track template with slave computers, for the ultimate always-loaded writing experience, and guess what...I wrote almost nothing!!! Im a huge proponent of modular workflows now. Reaper is the king for this.
@Reapertips
@Reapertips Жыл бұрын
AMAZING. Thank you for putting it like that. That's exactly how it is! Modular is definitely the way to go. Like just focus on creating a huge library of track templates overtime fueled by your own experiences and actual real cases~

Hey Alejandro, great video. Very recognizable too. I didn't like Reaper at first. Was used to Reason and Bitwig. But somehow reaper kept my interest. I spent 1 day a while ago clicking on everything I could in reaper and was then sold. Since that time I've only discovered more amazing things about reaper and it's my main DAW now. I have also benefited a lot from your site (besides Kenny of course😉). You're doing a good job.... keep it up!!

One thing I've only got into recently is using OSC to trigger actions. For example I have a mini dj controller (envivo) that I got for £10 off eBay. Some of the buttons have lights, so I've written a Python script which talks to this device, which then uses the jog wheels to scrub the timeline. By using a Python script, I can have multiple sets of OSC messages that the device sends, so e.g. with preset 1, the jog wheels move the timeline by beat or bar; another they move by samples; and so on. You can have much fun with this.

My way of learning reaper was that I was already used to Ableton and liked the workflow but wanted something native to run on Linux due to old hardware (Windows 11 support and such). Someone had recommended Reaper so I gave it a try and realized that I could basically set up Reaper to work exactly like Ableton but ALSO improve upon my old workflow by customizing things that I felt Ableton didn't do well.

I made my own customized actions where I have buttons at the top that open my favorite plugins. For example, one button says "EQ." When I have a track selected, I can click that button & it will open the FX window for that track & add my Fabfilter Pro-Q3. I have 4 separate buttons that do that. It's fun to customize Reaper.

Hey Alejandro, I've been trying to get create a video layout the way you have it with no luck. You mentioned having a video linked in the description box that will show how to make it but it was more of a tutorial of how to add toolbars, not specifically make the layout you have. Is there anyway reaper keeps save files on templates that can be shared as a file, or make a video on how to make the same setups you've come up with? I hope you see this comment & respond, thanks.

Hey! You can look into the render settings 'normalize' function. I believe you can normalize by LUFs so, you can set it to something like -12 LUFs and reaper will normalize all tracks to that level of loudness! Let me know if it works :)

Reaper is highly customizable, maybe too highly customizable. That makes it kinda overwhelming for beginners and professionals alike because you never know whether you are doing anything the most efficient way. Until you learn that it does not matter, it's like DAW vs. DAWless, a childish way of thinking about music creation. It's the end result that counts. Period. Great video.
