Because of you I purchased one of Duane’s kits. They are bad ass! Thanks for this video. You and Sean continue to build an impressive Toyota DIY library.

We agree, Richard. Duane's tools are bad ass! You're very welcome, and thanks for recognizing the extensive library of information we have built thus far. And, we have no plans of stopping any time soon. Happy Wrenching!

Annnnd another phenomenal teaching video! Y’all are the modern day Haynes/chiltons for Yota/Lex vehicles!! All of which aren’t hidden behind a pay wall!! Appreciate all of y’all’s time and hard work filming/editing these videos. Makes a 3hr job a 9hr+ job for example. Thank y’all!! God bless~

Thanks for the kind words. Filming at least doubles the time it takes to complete a job. The editing quite often is more time-consuming than the actual shooting of the video. It's a labor of love, so we don't mind putting in the work. We know our videos help out lots of people, and that's what motivates us to keep doing it. You're very welcome!

I learned a lot about using the axle tool and using the press generally. I'm a newbie to the press world, having just picked one up. I did bushings on all rear control arms last week thanks to you guys. This job looks more involved, I really enjoyed it.

Press work is interesting because you're generally only limited by your own ingenuity to get things done. There's so many ingenious ways I've seen people get press work done. Doing the axles on a 100 Series or LX470 adds a bit of a challenge due to the length of the longer axle. You saw I needed to stack multiple press plates to gain the necessary height so I could pull the parts off and press them back on. A recent modification I did to my press alleviates the need for multiple press plates. Check out the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5_EYadufqmrjbMsi=1WFxcs6p7sPiq4Cz I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Keep turning wrenches and learning.

Excellent as ever. Really impressed and I'll be doing a rear axle service on a 4WD Toyota so absorbing the learning from this and your other, related vids. Hopefully I'll also be able to get the same press SST as you have but I'll have to contact the guy and check it fits my JDM. A couple of observations are to say that I think most parking brakes, whether on drums or disks can be readjusted into the use position by operting the handbrake a few times. As it's the handbrake that does the uptake that takes place as the shoes wear on drum brakes, the handbrake operates the brake adjust lever that operates the star adjustor. I think as long as the handbrake can operate the adjust lever then the brakes will self-adjust. Sencondly, when I do my rear axle I will be wanting to do some fettling to the rear brake backing plates. I think I will remove these fairly early, which I think will make the subsequent processes a bit easier. Would you do this if you have to take them off anyway? Lastly I was wondering if you would have to lift up the press etc and it came very close! My diff centre is central, phew!
@TimmyTheToolman6 ай бұрын
The parking brake for vehicles with rear disk brakes is different than the vehicles with rear drum brakes. For the vehicles with rear drum brakes, the brake stays in adjustment by using the parking brake regularly. For the vehicles with rear disk brakes and a drum parking brake, the parking brake does not self adjust. There is nothing that will turn the star adjuster when operating the hand brake. With shorter equal length axles, you won't need extra press plates to build it up.

Thanks for the compliment. Sean and I love specialty tools, and we were lucky to discover Duane and help promote his axle tools to the Toyota/Lexus Auto Mechanic Community. Duane even sells his tools to dealerships, which tells me Toyota doesn't make anything like Duane has developed. Most shops cut parts off and risk damaging the axle. I love the clean and professional way we are able to perform these jobs because of the tool designs Duane has developed.
