The FIRST and ONLY, Mechanic on here, who made a Video on changing out the Rear Bakes on a GM Truck, that showed where to lubricate the back of the Brake Pads, and especially, Where to Lube the area on the Slide Clips, where the Ears of the Pads Slide and make "Metal To Metal Contact". Good Job. Another area where they never Lube, is when they Change the Parking Brake Shoes, No One has ever made a video showing that the Areas, where the back of the Shoes make contact with back Plate, there are Three Raised Areas on the Plate where brake Lube should be used, so the Shoes move Freely and do get hung up.

thanks for the video. Now I work in the semi heavy duty side of trucks. So I don't know if this applies to small trucks. We have been advised to open the bleeder while pushing in the caliper pistons because the manufacture suggested that when you push the fluid back into the system you can contaminate the ABS system. Just a suggestion. I don't have any documentation. Then also check the brake fluid level afterwards just like you showed. I'm going out to do my step sons brakes on his. So I wanted to see what was up first. So again thanks.
@backyardchevy3284 жыл бұрын
Thank you🙂..It does apply to any brakes but if not done properly and allowed to get air in system without bleeding properly itll cause bigger issues...so i guess when i do videos i should at least mention it.

should have used blue loctite on the 2 calliper bracket bolts. I had one come out on a truck I bought and my brakes locked up do to the caliper jambing against the rim. I spoke with I spoke with a mechanic about this and he said that this was not uncommon to happen and that is why GM uses loctite from factory
@backyardchevy3285 жыл бұрын
Its actually recommended to replace the bolts which come with loctite on em, but if torqued properly with the threadlocker it had originally it still should not back out, but blue loctite would be a good idea...but given the option id rather just replace the bolts as recommended.

are the parts from an 04 avalanche the same as the ones on an 07- ?
@richardmcelroy65744 жыл бұрын
This a year later but id cross reference everything. I replaced my suspension(all), power steering(all), brakes rotors calipers and lines(all) and all fluids except radiator. Oh and headers. And there are several differences in the generation of this videos vehicle. Your '07 is a different generation. Id suggest anyone to go buy a gm manual.read the manual and even look at the pics. It make watching these vids so much easier to follow and even gives many ideas for issue on non related vehicle. This video lacks a scuffed knuckle from the ratchet busting a tooth a bit of profanity or even to se this man try to bench press the truck. Lol stuff that happens before editing. If u dont open the valve u wont have to bleed the brakes, unless u get air in the system like for example u change a brake hose or u replace a brake caliper, etc.Brake fluid cap u dont have to open unless u will have to take some brake fluid out when u compress the piston and it starts getting past the full mark and u still got more to go.

Why do the caliper pins spin freely on these trucks?? Most cars Ives done have a flat where all u do is tighten the caliper bolts down. Here u MUST try to squeeze a little open end wrench in and prevent it from spinning. None of my open ends will clear that small gap on a 2008 Avalanche.

That type of caliper compressor is a bad design. The edges on that plastic star cuts into your fingers. Should’ve made it with a simple door knob design to turn. Other than that, good job. I have the dual rear piston calipers too, on my ‘02 Avalanche
@backyardchevy3283 жыл бұрын
Thank you🙂 yea it does depend on how hard it is to compress the caliper..most are pretty easy..but yea when theyre harder it can do that..maybe a t handle design thats found on other rear caliper compression tools may be better

@@backyardchevy328 Seriously, think about it. With door knob design, you can get a lot of torque from your wrist on those stubborn slow moving pistons. I’m an expert on working smart, and not hard. With that “T” handle, you’d have to keep repositioning your hand on each turn. 👉🏽🧠
