I'm so glad I live in the Mojave Desert. All of my vehicles, including my '89 F-250, don't have a spec of rust on the frames or anywhere for that matter. Cars around here will last forever if you keep throwing parts at them.

The rear end takes 75w-140 and there should be a friction modifier. 1.65 liters-ish of diff oil. 4oz of modifier Front diff take 80w-90 I think

Friction modifier is only needed if you have a limited slip differential. Otherwise it's a waste of money, but it won't hurt anything.

@robgad2271
@robgad2271 Жыл бұрын
It pays to use the right info. 1.7 Qt. of 75W-140, full synthetic, not 90 W. In cold climates 90W will freeze up and strip the faces off of the planetary gears. In less cold winter locations 85W-145 will do.

Sweet. 3/4" adapter and a pump. Thanks!! Question: I have the same vehicle in 2002 form, 3.73 D4 axel code etc. Check engine light for pressure control solenoid B, and a trans gear 2 ratio code. I know the fluid is burnt, but is the PCS B causing a trans gear 2 code? I also know the B solenoid controls gear 2 and 5 which the tech said was acting up after getting to temp. Would you suggest we replace the PCS B and fluid and pray? Or, replace the trans?

By not replacing the gasket eventually it will wear out and you will maybe smell a diff fluid smell due to a leak. This happened to me. Its better to go ahead and change the gasket for the diff and the diff fluid.

Atleast on yours you have room for extensions/adapters for the drain plug, on mine (2007 Sport Trac) the frame is lower and barely get in with a 3/4 ratchet itself….

I have a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis it has 52,000 miles on it and it has a weird humming sound it dose it at a stop light and 70 miles per hour down the highway. It doesn't do it all the time I would say for a 30 min drive it dose it 3 or 4 times. It also jumps from rpm to rpm not sure what rpm it bounces from because it doesn't have a rpm diel. Could this be a mass air flow sensor?

While your video is good, but I figured, if you're going to change the oil, why not do it all correctly ? I was watching a different video, showing how to remove the whole cover, replace the gasket, and cleaned out the inside with brake cleaner. Great video you have, but let's do it all correctly. Thank you again for your video.

While there is nothing at all wrong with cleaning out the the inside, my pops who worked 31 years at Ford always told me it's an overkill. He explained that it's not an engine and sort of the way older transmissions work, if you change out 100% of the trans fluid it makes it to slick and kills the transmission. While not the case with the Diff, it's still "good enough".
