Frame off refresh of a 1974 Corvette. I call it a refresh rather than a restoration because I'm cleaning it up but not restoring it with original parts and equipment. I intend to autocross with the car after it is put back together. Look for videos on every part of the tear down. My channel will also feature driving on race tracks and drag strips.

Would it be easier& safer to just cut the bolt, & replace with a new one?

Probably, but it wouldn't be as much fun.

I have a 1974 also and don't have that same leaf spring. Mine is steel with 7 leafs yours was a composition. I was wondering how that worked in keeping the rear stable over bumps vs a steel leaf spring. I like having the steel for added weight in the rear which I need.

Sorry, but I can't compare the composite to the steel because both of my C3's already had the composite springs when I bought them. I can say that I don't really have any problems with stability.

The composite springs are far superior to the steel leaves. On top of being 30 some pounds lighter, it will not corrode, sag, deform over time, or ever need replacement and it definitely is more stable around corners. Not sure why anyone would ever need weight... the name of the game is to lose weight and gain more poneys. Also, the composite springs come in different spring rates. 315 lbs, 340 lbs, 355 lbs, and so on. You can select the spring based on what you are doing with your Vette (street only, street and track, aggressive racing, etc). Hope this helps.
