Hey dude, thanks for the video! I just purchased the switch unit from ECS Tuning ES#167261and was really sweating about which pins on the connector were for the sun shade. Thanks for explicitly saying pins 14 and 15. The actual crimp on ends for the wires are available from the BMW dealer, a couple bucks each. Also, the black housing around the connector slides off, as you know, but for the others who have just watched, a simple fingernail in the right place allows the black housing to slide off the actual tan colored connector where the wires plug into. If you get the crimp on connectors, if you slide off the black housing, you can see the correct orientation for the crimp connectors to push into the square holes. They must be inserted properly so that the locking tang engages so that the wire does not push out when inserting the connector into the switch unit. Thanks again! Now all I have to do is launch my Go Fund Me campaign so that I can purchase the actual sun blind ES#120392, haha!

I also have it from factory in my 2003 sedan. I think it might be even rarer on the sedan than on the coupe. Really like this thing in bright sunshine. Very good retrofit guide 👍

I love these retrofit videos! Extremely detailed install, looks factory. I thought this part was NLA. I wish BMW still had other former retrofits available such as the Xenon retrofit for halogen equipped cars.
@EvanGoyuk4 жыл бұрын
I will be coming out with the coding part of this. It’s super easy to install xenon lights in a halogen car. You use the same plugs. You plug the old halogen low beam into the ballast and you plug the high beam in then code it
@victorn325i4 жыл бұрын
@@EvanGoyuk You really should although I have already done it. What I was referring to is that at some point in the past, BMW sold a retrofit kit with a wiring harness that would allow you to tap into the LCM and control adaptive and self-leveling features. That is no longer available.

I retrofitted this into my 2002 320D Sedan. Was really into protecting the interior of my car from the sun and keep the temperatures lower =D All I needed was buy a deck with a sunblind and pass the wires to the switch button panel. Voilá! Keep the good work ;)

Seriously great work. I would absolutely call you a friend. Sorry i wasn’t able to get you a template. But those are clearly rare then the sun blind itself🤣. That looks very clean and I can tell you you did a better job then the first one I ever did years a go at the dealer. 😂 great job using the correct color wires and making a legit harness. I can’t tell you how many people think they can wire and well just can’t.

Thanks man, glad to have you as a friend. I tried my best with the tesa tape. The tape I got kind of sucked.
@StreetRocketJoe4 жыл бұрын
Evan Goyuk generally what I do when making a harness is attach it to a vise on both ends. Thus suspending it in air, which makes it really easy to wrap. I generally do what I call a partial wrap. Which is pretty much what the factory does where there are gaps between the pieces of tape. Obviously I have access to the electrical tape BMW uses at the factory and that stuff is pure gold.
@EvanGoyuk4 жыл бұрын
I bought cheap stuff off amazon I bet fcp sells genuine bmw tesa tape
@StreetRocketJoe4 жыл бұрын
Evan Goyuk they might but my guess is it isn’t cheap. Our parts department wishes we would use just normal electrical tape so they could save a lot of money. But once you use the stuff there is no going back. I’ll look at the till next chance I get and see if it has a brand name on it.

Retrofitted one last week. I have the single button though. They are pretty common in the eu. Getting the deck out for the first time was a pain. I cut up my deck also, the deck i got with the blind was really saggy. Was stored in humid conditions i guess.
