A favorite moment is when Jeffries watches Lisa go across to enter Thornwalds apartment, he's terrified for her. But when she comes back his admiration for her is tenfold, and it's all done with just his expression, kind of like Grease when Sandy comes out all dressed in black, he sees that side of her that he thought she didn't have, that adventurer side..awesome moment

Great review. I' m old enough to have seen Rear Window when it was first released. It's definitely one of his best. There's a sequence towards the end of the film that is so briiliantly done that still gives me chills even though I've watched it many times. I really enjoy your terrific channel.

Wow, I would have loved to have seen Rear Window when it was first in theaters! I heard a story that the audience was so tense in that climactic scene that one woman grabbed her husband's arm and shouted "Do something!!"

Awesome review Rear Window is one of my favourite movies ever, I’m a bit of a James Stewart fan! But I’m also a Alfred Hitchcock fan too! I love it when Jimmy Stewart is sat in his wheelchair and goes from looking at all his neighbours, the pianist, Miss Lonely Hearts, Raymond Burr with his ill wife then the woman with the dog, Miss Torso and the newlyweds then Stella who I think was just so funny 😂

I love this movie, seen it probably 20 times. Somehow it doesn't feel dated at all. Witty dialogue, still funny in 2021, no overacting, great suspense, no dragging scenes. Best of Hitchcock in my opinion, this and Vertigo

I just finished watching this movie for the first time and I really enjoyed it! The last 20 minutes had so much tension that I feared for the characters!

Love this movie! Probably my favorite Hitchcock movie. The mood, the color... Love the scene where he hears the scream and then falls asleep. It’s raining and Thorwald is carrying his wife out in pieces in a suitcase. It almost feels like you are Jimmy Stewart.

Thanks for creating this channel. I love your reviews watched a few of them. It contains reviews of most of my favourite movies and the best part is you giving different views and narratives about the film. It makes me feel that I should watch the movie again to get a better or different understanding about the film. Thanks for your work. Really appreciate it.:)

I liked the scene where the little dog keeps meddling by the backyard and the very last scene where Grace Kelly has the courage to sit back and enjoy reading a women's magazine

Shadow of A Doubt and Rear Window are his two greatest masterpieces. I recently watched his entired directed filmography and he, no joke, made 30 great-to-good films, and another 10 that are worthwhile. Some of the 'bad' ones are test runs for greater films.

What a pleasure to listen to a review of a classic movie without all the clichés usually used for such an exercise. One of the most personal, most original movie buff reviews out there. There are so many titles for which I would like to get your deep focus opinion. I'm a big Eric Rohmer and you seem like the type who would also love his movies (they've all been subtitled now). And no, they're much more fascinating than watching paint drying on a wall for 2 hours :)

Yep. Vertigo #1, Rear Window a close #2. Very cozy, layered-with-meaning, crisp movie. Love mid-century culture, art, movies etc. I also love the diagetic theme music being composed, in real time, by the pianist character!

Fantastic to see Hitchcock's Paramount-backed trifecta (Rear Window; Vertigo; Psycho) all covered. Other critics say the studio system never catered to a director again the way RKO catered Welles (for all of 6 or 7 months), but this and the Warner Bros. / Nolan relationship should be more than enough proof to the contrary.

I wonder if it's even possible to make non-diegetic sound somehow integral to a film-going experience, without it resorting to some kind of hilariously anachronistic, ragtime distraction!

My favorite Hitchcock film is "The 39 Steps". Black & white, from the 1930's. Very much a British movie. The two leads make a great couple.

Not really the actual story though! But yeah it's among the best of his early stuff.He improved rapidly after this. The Lady Vanishes is better, but this is memorable.

I had a teacher that speculated that one reason Hitchcock preferred blondes was so he could show yellow hair, blue eyes and red lips - the three primary colors - in one character.

Anyone who hasn't seen the fan video "Red Drum Getaway," look for it on KZbin. It is a tribute to both Hitchcock and Kubrick films, with scenes and shots of Rear Window, Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, Vertigo, etc., cleverly edited together.

It seems Jefferies suffers from impotence, he doesn't seem interested in his girlfriend, just looking outside. When he thinks he sees something he gets excited and brings out the biggest telephoto lens I've ever seen, obviously a phallic symbol. Many Hitch movies are about men getting it up (Vertigo). Masterpiece.
@saigokun6 жыл бұрын
Great and very interesting analysis that I thoroughly enjoyed. Alfred Hitchcock was cleary at his peak in the 1950s when he made a string of succesful movie starting with Strangers on a Train in 1950. I would like to add that although Voyeurism is its main theme, impotence and the image that we create for ourself to use as a shield towards others are also touched on.

Voyeurism is human nature. We are curious as a rule. We watch and wonder how much of Miss Torso did he really see? We wonder about what’s going on down on the street. All the sounds. What these people look like up close. By the way, up close you are gorgeous. :)

Today, we would consider it patronizing, to cut the Stewart character some moral slack, because of his being disabled.
@alienlv426ify6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was a great movie. In my opinion, Grace Kelly was wearing clothes too fancy that doesn't fit with the social level of the neighbourhood.
@saigokun6 жыл бұрын
That was intentionally done by Hitchcock. It is even addressed in the movie itself when Stewart's characters says that it should be noted on the stock exchange.
@voteforno.61556 жыл бұрын
Grace Kelly's character is not from that neighborhood -- she plays a wealthy socialite, so the wardrobe was intentional. Hitch was always attentive to wardrobe.
@richardsantanna53986 жыл бұрын
It was decent but i thought it was very predictable, especially after having seen a handful of his films.
