I've been using Reason for years to make commercial jingles and mostly playing and experimenting with its tools. Simply the best DAW you can find. Like you say, REX files discovered a new world in musicmaking. I've bought Recycle to make my own REX files over an hour ago, started looking for a tutorial to help find my way on the program and found this.... ¡What a great info this video has! Superb explanation and history about the topic so we can get a clear perspective. I have no regrets on my recycle buy but it's very helpful to know what reason is capable of. Thank you guys on Pyramid, is clear that you know your stuff and sharing it with all of us, enthusiasts in music production, is what make you awesome. You got a new fan here!

I was going to bite the bullet, and buy ReCycle. But then, while checking out ReCycle videos, I found this gem. Thanks!! I have Reason 11 lite - and, using your info have just dragged in a loop, '[right click] bounce it to REX2', and exported it. I now have a REX2 of that loop which I can play with my RXP Player which, (like octorex) lets me play each slice from the keyboard and sequence the loop slices in my preferred DAW (Reaper). It was so quick and easy. Many dollars saved!!!

What I'd really like to figure out is how to create a real .rex file sitting on the hard drive. After you had created it in Octorex you can save to a .drex file which most other programs can't use (at least that seems to be the case for Battery and Nerve) but as far as I can tell you can't save to a .rex file so sadly, as far as I can tell, I can't create a .rex file from scratch - only a .drex file which really doesn't help me all that much if I want to work outside of Reason. Am I correct here or is there a way around this?

The problem with recycle now or lease reasons version of recycle now is that there is no way to control how many transients points it and puts It adds a million and you have to delete them all and manually put them in yourself which is fine but there need to be some type of control as far at the sensitivity of them

Hi there Can you help at all? I get as far as recording the audio, but when I double click I do not get the view you have and the option to bounce to Rex File is greyed out. Have I got something configured incorrectly. I am using Reason 8.
@PyramindSF8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Stoneham Hi! I have actually experienced this myself. Depending on the editing you've done, a double click might be putting you in "comp edit", instead of edit mode (where the slices appear). In the top left of the sequencer underneath the tempo information, there should be a "close" button, as well as a "bounce" button underneath it. Click "bounce", and then "close". Now, when you double click on the clip again you should get the view with the slices, and the option to bounce to rex file. If this doesn't work, you can right click on the clip and bounce the audio to disk. Then bring the audio back in manually. Hope that helps!

The biggest complaint about reason is that the interface (still!) isn't scalable. there are hundreds of videos that complain about this so the benefit of using recycle (still) is that you get a nice big interface where you can easily position slice points and zoom as needed. Reason really needs to fix it's non-scalable interface

I keep getting a blank slice at the end that kills the constant loop. any way to fix this? no matter how much I cut from the initial sample it never goes away
@PyramindSF8 жыл бұрын
+SherudoPaulson are you bouncing your own audio to a rex file? If so, make sure the audio loops correctly first. You can test this out using the left and right locators and setting them to a beat division (1 bar, 2 bars etc.) Also, if it does loop correctly, make sure the audio file does not extend beyond the locators (if your sample loops correctly for 2 bars, cut any audio that extends beyond those 2 bars) This way, when you bounce the audio to a rex file it won't add any unnecessary slices. Hope this helps!

I'm using v8 and i cant get this to work,click on bounce clip to rex loop and nothing happens,nothing,no choice but to keep using Recycle,damn annoying as it brings work flow to a stop while i have to close Reason and open up Recycle to create a rex loop from an audio file/loop.
@jefferson42136 жыл бұрын
nice alternative ... but still quite a lengthy process as compared to dragging and dropping a .wav or .aiff file like in Ableton and warping. also this method looks like it creates way too many slices. great but i think i'll stick with Recycle

It's $200 & doesn't ever have a discount?? I don't see anyone else selling it. Most other DAWs include something like Recycle already. I'm guessing the reason it's $200 is for people who want to create perfect REX loops in order to sell them. For instance, having a gifted drummer or groove-master do sampling & then making REX loops out of it. I'd like to have it but $200 is a bit out of my price range. Maybe $99, I'd consider it.

If you want to make this video useful use Rex on melodic sounds not drums cadets well you will run into it adding chop Markers in spots that you do not want them to go and having to correct them ..in this video it is all too easy to use a drum because majority of the time the hits points are easy to find Plus any person that chops ssmples does so with music files not drums
