Thanks for the video. I actually just had a chipped exhaust valve on cylinder 3 as well, same exact problem, causing a 0psi compression test on the 3rd cylinder. I'm working on replacing and relappinng valves next weekend.

How much did it cost for the parts

Burnt valve or over revving the engine causing the valve to float and chip off part of the valve. Either or both in this situation.

Thanks man! That's what I'm being told.

is the problem fixable....and if you get it to a mechanic to fix it would he suggest an engine swap....cause thats what they sugested me today...is there any cheaper solution?
@joelt88875 жыл бұрын
@@MrsLydiaPo if you can do the work yourself I'm sure you'd save some money, otherwise it's probably cheaper to replace the engine or the head with a used one.

No compression on all 4 cylinders, what could have happened? Is it just the head gasket? Or is it something more severe
@joelt88872 жыл бұрын
Could be a lot of things. Does it spin freely? Could be a timing belt issue or bent valves. That would be nice if it was only a head gasket though! I'd be interested to hear what you find.

At least it didn't drop a valve.

Any chance that chunk of metal from the valve could cause further engine damage?

Not a chance. It is impossible.

what ended up being the problem for low compression on cylinder 1?
@joelt88873 жыл бұрын
There was only an issue with cylinder 2.

Is it possible just to replace that valve?

I bought all new valves and working on lapping them myself at the moment. I'm going to try to post a new vid once everything is back together.

@@joelt8887 @wildart2 yes you can. Replace the valve ID do valve seals to so you can avoid burning oil

Why did cylinder #1 have low compression at 140psi
@TheRA3D853 жыл бұрын
I have 2012 srx Cadillac I had zero compression in one cylinder and it was the rocker arm

OP, question about this--when you started noticing the issue, I'm assuming it ran rough and misfired, but was there any color to the exhaust? I'm troubleshooting a misfire in a cylinder with about half the compression it should register, but my exhaust looks normal.
@joelt88874 жыл бұрын
I bought this engine after it was already pulled from the car, so I dont know how it ran. A bad valve won't cause the engine to burn oil (blue smoke). Bad valve seals would cause oil to burn but the valves themselves only direct air... try adding a little bit of oil to the cylinder when you're doing the compression test. If that gives you a dramatic increase in pressure then it would point to the piston rings as the issue. If oil doesn't change anything then it's likely a valve issue.

My 2001 montero has zero compression in No 1 the rest has 120 to 121 PSI. I have not taken off the head yet. Becausd mybe there is just something lodge under the valve that can be freed

is rhe oftermarket head gasket work good?

I used aftermarket gaskets for my rebuild. It seems to have a slight oil leak from headgasket.

so i have a question i did a compression check on my engine and 1st cylinder came out at 0 compression the other 3 ranged from 100 to 120 its a b18b1 from a 94 acura. is it likely the 1st cylinder has bent valves causing the issue or or cracked like yours? i haven't completely taken off the head because i had people telling me it may have been a timing issue but i was certain it was compression. could timing cause one cylinder to have 0 compression or is it likely damaged like yours? i planned on rebuilding and putting all new gaskets but i dont want to take apart if its a timing issue. i know the 3rd cylinder ranged at 200 or 190 so i am assuming gasket replacement with resurface. any input would be appreciated thank you
@joelt88875 жыл бұрын
In my opinion all 4 cylinders would have similar low compression if it was ONLY a timing issue. Since only one cylinder has 0 compression you probably have an issue similar to mine. The engine will almost definitely need to be taken apart to repair a 0 compression issue. Could be a burnt or bent valve, damaged piston, head gasket, or cracked cylinder wall. Good luck!

@@joelt8887 so are you just replacing the head or same head but replacing internals? i got the car for a steal 650 running but it over heated some reason not sure if lack of coolant or because of the dirty muddy water that got into the block from the radiator i didn't flush it before driving it. are you going to be making a video on it lol?
