Running my first marathon taught me this. Before, I’d worried what the neighbours thought of me running up the street pretending to be a runner. That accomplishment made me realise it’d all been in my head. Turns out one of my neighbours had ran several marathons and he spurred me on to continue. Since then I’ve had several people say to me I couldn’t run a bath which makes me chuckle. I now realise others just project their own shortfalls onto others. Enjoy.

This reminds me of something similar that happened to me in high school. We had to present our artwork for the class to critique, and it was my first experience at this. One guy simply said "it sucks" (it was a picture of seagulls flying and it DID suck....). But that was the only critique he gave. That crushed me a little bit, but it made me work harder for my next drawing (a portrait of Sandra Bullock) and it was really good, I wish I still had it. I was glad that I surpassed that experience, and listening to these stories reminds me of that time.

Great stories of people over coming pre existing notions of who they are and what value or worth they feel they have. Being true to ones self and beliefs is a good way to live, until it isn't and others try to place you in a box. Breakout of that box, like a Jack in the Box.
