Japan is a pretty below average place to live, the only reason people want to live there is the rise of Japanese based cartoons, also called anime, set in/made in Japan. This leads people to think a lot more favorably of Japan then they should, and spread this elsewhere. In reality Japan has an aging population, straining the working class and politicians, a generally very honor based culture which isn't a bad thing per se, but can get complex and sometimes bad. This can be pointed in in certain areas of tech where little improvement is made. Not to mention the incredible stress put on the citizens, leading them to have one of the highest suicide rates in the world, and it's considered one of, if not the most stressful places to live in the world. Paired with racism, sexism, and homophobia, not to mention xenophobia. Let's not get into their refusal to admit to warcrimes committed in ww2 and criminal activity as of lately. It's not as good as you may be lead to believe, do some research if you don't believe me.
