One trick I use when shooting CDNG on the old Blackmagic Production Camera 4k is to use a program called Slim Raw to get various compression ratios while saving a ton of space and keeping everything CNDG for a full grade later. Red’s RAW patents prevent any camera company from offering internal compressed raw without a license from Red. However, this doesn’t apply to desktop applications. You can compress RAW any way you like as long as it’s outside the camera and not run afoul of of Red’s patents. Thanks for your review, seems like the FP mights be a great little portable raw machine!

If those patents from RED ever expire I hope for a rivavel from CNDG. Down with prores RAW and Blackmagic RAW.

Cdng will always have better resolution resolved. That's why many people chose not to update their Blackmagic cameras. People who use bought fp wanted the best image possible not carrying about storage. I don't use slim raw cause i hate loosing time converting and compressing. I like to edit directly from ssd.

12 bit colour info and the bitrate transfer is 3 times as much as black magic these are what makes this picture quality unbeatable that and the fact that CDNG is the most RAW format out there and it's the best for giving that film look but not looking to much like a digital clinical film. believe me working with CDNG as a colour grader in 2019 from a Black Magic mini ursa camera was just as good as working with Arri's raw format. It's definitely worth the purchase i just wished they would've kept it at £1500 now they've realised how popular this machine is they have raised the price to £1900 but its so still worth it for the rawest format out there.

I know it’s a 2 years old video but one thing that most Sigma FP users do wrong is the ISO settings. If you shoot on iso 100 you’ll loose about 2 stops in the highlights. Since it’s a true RAW format, meaning that whatever iso range you choose it will impact the DR balance between the highlights and the shadows.

all intra & gop are extremely good if you set the tone curve right, less highlights and more shadows, reduce - colors, -contrast & - sharpness, you get a finished video out of the fp, when the light is good, exposure is perfect (no reserves for overexposure, but for shadows at mov, gop) you will hardly notice the difference between raw & mov,)
@smalldeekgeorge Жыл бұрын
The thing is you can't disable sharpness not even in color mode off. Cdng even with sharpness set to 0 have more detail than mov that have fake sharpening. I shot 8bit cdng just because sharpening and noise reduction can't be disabled in all intra and gop.

raw is raw and never with a downsampling/supersampling. 1080p or 4K with the full sensor is always with line skipping. The best quality you can get in the sigma fp is 4K with an aps-c crop.

It's annoying to hear people harping on how much space the DNG's take up. Storage is cheap so who cares? That's what makes this camera so special, what gives it the "organic" quality you spoke of in the beginning. Who cares how much storage it takes up when ssd's like the t7 are so cheap? It's basically a meaningless complaint. It's a Lamborghini, so let it be what it is. I don't want better fuel mileage. If they gave you better fuel mileage that would take away the benefits of what made it so special to begin with. In that sense, there are no negatives and in return you're getting TRUE raw video for an affordable price, something no one else is offering. Cinema DNG gives you better colors and better out of the gate latitude that Prores Raw, shown here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnmseWOVmbSZaNU. What I've heard from another editor is it has much more flexibility in grading as well than Prores Raw, which makes sense given the vast amount of information that's there in comparison. So the very thing people harp about is what makes it so great and the downsides of storage capacity are mitigated by cheap storage, so there's no logical reason to bring it up. You can't do compressed raw with Red in town or they'll sue you. We'll see how that shakes up with Nikon's recent "victory" if you want to call it that. In the mean time, you have an affordable cinema camera that gives you insane amounts of information in a true pocket size. I've played around with Fp footage in Resolve and it is mindboggling how much information there is and the flexibility of it. I was able to bring up the shadows and it remained super clean, particular with some Resolve NR. This guy has some for download and I was truly blown away. I may have to swap out my A1 for it, kzbin.info/www/bejne/Znu2aIpthK-Xbrs.

As a blackmagic owner, and red owner also, im really underwhelmed by the IQ of this sensor, the shadows are just so muddy on every single video example ive seen. Looks so bad whilst everyone is saying the image quality is exceptional. I dare say Sony looks better, and I hate Sony. I dont get the hype on this at all. The exposure limitations for a full frame sensor in CDNG is unreally poor.
@moisie133 ай бұрын
Sounds like you did not shoot with fp. I sold 6k pro after getting fp. First, cdng is far far more superior format than anything bmpcc can produce, check out side by side with arri alexa sxt. Exposing is simple - saving highlights and you have all the control over image in resolve. Color science is film like, if you ever shot Leica M or Q or even with their glass, its that. No need to shoot 4k with it, 12bit 1080 is beautiful just like alexa classic 1080 4444 but with more flexibility in post. No noise visible from 100-3200. Never gets hot unlike bmpcc. Weather sealed body with amazing menu, MIJ strong body unlike plastic and fragile 6k pro (good luck with that paper thin cord connecting flip screen to body on pro sets, terrible). Sony? fx3 is ok to work with but for other style of image - sharp,clean,cold digital look. It takes some time to learn it but its a hidden gem for sure.
