This is so cool! I think in combination with Reason+ it really would have been awesome to allow custom patches to also manually set up chord relations (instead of just using the automatic machinery mentioned around minute 55). This baby is in a league of its own since you get different "next chord"-suggestion in genres like gospel, soul and so on. (not only EDM or basic pop/rock) But the absolutely best thing is that its played by real musicians. That way you get all the right inversions and so on. When I make music I always look for the next chord...I hear it in my head but can´t play it...Well, that is no longer a problem. Ni är så jäkla grymma!! Tusen tack! / Janne Andersson

Love this - fixes the constraint I have with 'Scales & Chords' to support non-routine chord sequences. I love the Beatles tunes and they had some weird transitions which S&C wouldn't support (without running 2x S&Cs instances). Need to have some fun with this EG work out playing CS going into S&C (CS for chords, and S&C for playing chord appropriate melody lines)

Looks great. Showing also the scale degree (roman numeral) would be a nice addition to it (I V VI vi). Maybe in upcoming versions.
@ReasonStudios2 жыл бұрын
The reason I think they didn't do that is because chord sets don't have to stick to scales that strictly. For example, House music often uses what's called "parallel" chords. You might have a chord progression that that uses Cmaj7 and then C#maj7 followed by D#maj7. All maj7 chords and C# and D# aren't notes in the key of C major. So to use the roman numeral "Nashville number system" would quickly get weird. /ryan
@aquilyzer2 жыл бұрын
@@ReasonStudios I know what you mean. i just thought as additional label under the chord name, when the root of the chord is in the scale. In root key C, CMaj could be (I), and CMaj7(I7), Cminor (i). C#Maj root is not in scale, so don't show any roman numeral. D#maj7 could be a secondary dominant in C Major scale. Just more information for chord decisions for tpyical chord progressions. (V -> I and so on). :)

Even though I graduated from music production school at Pyramind in San Francisco, worked in Studios, played in bands, etc. I have forgotten so much. I miss playing with Reason so much. It was a daily practice and super fun. Now I have kids and want to teach them music and songwriting etc. They love video games and Reason is like a game for music. where do I start? Reason Studios, it's time for a serious chat. I respect you as Reason user since 2013. I saw the release of this new device and thought, not ANOTHER player- which mainly benefits those on subscription, unless we keep paying every time a new player is released. For me, this is asking too much from the average person who does this as a hobby, which I would expect is at least 99% of Reason users. I don't like to be critical about Reason as I've been using it exclusively since 2013. But my last update was 10. Those 9 and 10 updates were amazing, with great functionality and workflow updates. But since then it just feels like there hasn't been significant core progress to the actual DAW underneath all the fancy stuff. Yes, there has been some very cool stuff in that time, it's not all bad. And I appreciate Covid had an impact. But recently I learned another DAW as I have VST3-only plugins I want to use (which Reason has been way too slow to adopt). And after a steep learning curve, I now realise how many features are missing in Reason that are elsewhere. Reason is very visually inspiring and is fun to look at. But it's not that efficient, and is lagging behind badly in some respects. And now many long-time Reason users, like me, are being tempted to other DAWs and realising what else is out there. I really am genuinely worried about what is happening to Reason. But maybe this business model works, which is why you're going down this path. Maybe there's a big market out there for this sort of thing. All I know is, I never wanted to move away from Reason, but I find myself doing that, for now at least. I hope this feedback is of some use.
@colindias48202 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way too . But it's no use. They are set to become a plugin for the near future. . At the same time i use reason 10 . And it's perfect for me .. as of now. I just upgraded to 12 from reason 10 with the recent discount .. just for using it as a plugin in another DAW. When I decide on one. . Maybe studio one or Ableton . But I've changes my view on things since reason 12 and learned to not attach to any DAW and just use the ones that are are goin to serve my purpose . The DAW makers have moved on without attachment . So should the users and adjust to changing times.

To create a new chord-set from various existing chordsets you don´t have to "put it on a midi". Just add another chord sequencer on top of the chord sequencer you wanna tweak and click on the chord buttons there. I just bought a copy of Chord Sequencer. Two things I wish were there are first) I wish that the root key followed along as one goes from pattern to pattern. Example: start off with the key of C. Change it to D. Switch to pattern #2, and the root key is back to C, and not D. OK, change the root to E, and then go back to pattern #1. The key is back to D (and not E). I wish that as I traversed from pattern to pattern, that the root did not change. Second, as I audition patches, the mini sequencer at the bottom doesn't reset. Example: Open a patch, and start playing. Stop it mid way through the progression (eg if it's 4 bars long, stop it in bar 2 or 3). Now switch to another Chord Sequencer patch. Instead of starting from the beginning, the marker remains at the same location, and starting/auditioning the sequence starts it at the same position it was previously stopped at, and not at the beginning.

yeah it's really just a curated collection of a bunch of cords that OTHER people like and think go well together. it does not allow you to parametrically explore chords based on how tense they feel, or how relaxed they feel, or how 'open' they feel, or what the emotional impact of the chords might be. There needs to be a way to be able to explore chords parametrically my mapping the EMOTIONAL affects of various intervals/ratios between chords, and within the chords, between notes. Etc

*Would be nice to drag/drop in a MIDI chord set into Chord Sequencer to populate the spots, in addition to playing each individual chord on your keyboard. *This Player needs more RHYTHM (or STYLES) rather than just a one shot chord. You can go into different chord progressions if the Style was different. I’d like to experiment with the progression in Chord Sequencer, not send it to the main sequencer to work on while still not finished. *In EDIT Mode, it would be REALLY HELPFUL if the built-in keyboard of Chord Sequencer will play the note(s) you mouse-click on. No way to hear a potential chord without going back and forth and back and forth until you get it right. *In Run Mode, why can’t you jump ahead in the timeline to start the sequence where you want? If I am working on a 16 bar sequence, and I am around bar 12-13, I have to start at the beginning EVERY TIME to hear the sequence. *More Chord Sets. And Rhythms. (And not just chord rhythms, but broken and arpegiated runs of the individual notes in the chord). Needs more work, Reason Studios. Patiently awaiting v 1.1 Hope you guys can make this Player really awesome.

@AdamAlexander892 жыл бұрын
Well folks....This is pretty nice, but this focus on players continues to make it clear that the sequencer and DAW itself is going to slowly be phased out. Your owners want you to focus on the rack and try to sell to as many people as possible. Mnay of the improvements the players bring could have been sequencer features and really make reason top notch. I'm not even mad about that. I'm just mad about the lack of communication and transparency. Your roadmap posts have done little to change that.

I love the fact that reason studios does their best to try to make things accessible to the beginners, but the problem is that they keep that focus on the beginners and completely ignore the advanced users which means a user can't grow with reason because since reason is constantly trying to keep things at a beginner level you will always stay at that beginner level and the devices and interfaces will always stay beginner. so growing past beginner is more boxed in because they keep the focus towards beginners always. it's awesome to be able to bring beginners in, but it's just wrong to keep everything at a baby beginner infantile stage forever. somebody needs to start acknowledging the people who have been using reason for 12 versions and stop pandering purely to the beginners, and start showing some respect to the people who have been using and promoting reason forever.
