The show seams that way because it's about civilians but the alliance in fire fly is straight up fascist. If Star Trek followed civilians you would see that the Federation is as libertarian as anything. The federation is just military and science exploration as far as the shows indicate. It's unclear if they have any authority over civilians. It's like if the US cut the government down to just the military. There is no indication of nationalization and it seams people own private property. It's post scarcity money is just not very relevant.
@Sewblon
@Sewblon 5 жыл бұрын
@@acendiatmedia8747 In Firefly the alliance are the bad guys. In Star Trek, labor is still clearly used, and still scarce. So its not post-scarcity in the strictest sense. They don't make those Galaxy class cruisers in replicators. Someone has to actually build and maintain them. So I think that Firefly is still more libertarian.

"2016 Gary Johnson received nearly 4.5 million votes (3.27% of the total vote), which is the most for a third party presidential candidate since 1996 and the highest national vote share for a Libertarian candidate in history." It would be nice to improve the accounting of the USA, pay down some debt, and boost the economy. Nothing happens if the currency is worthless and we all go bankrupt. Construction and Real Estate development is a good thing as long as it makes consideration for wild life and green space. Net Zero buildings are ideal, and no body enjoys living in a dull, grey lifeless city of concrete and steel.

Star Trek isn't possible in a libertarian context because there would be no governmental infrastructure to run Starfleet and no taxes of any kind to pay for it. Starfleet would be a totally private entity if it existed and thus would have no incentive to leave alien cultures alone if it was more profitable to fuck with them. There would be no entity legally in the position to stop them or even remotely powerful enough to enforce such rules if they did. It would very quickly become the rule of Trade Corporations with private militaries and would resemble the world of the 17th and 18th centuries.

+supersonic dickhead Pragmatism is severely overrated. It's the reason most people refuse to even consider third party candidates; mention libertarians, Green party, or whatever your particular favorite is, and you will get a funny look and an answer along the line of "Yeah, that'd be great, but get real. They'll never win." If less people wanted to be "practical," and just voted for the candidate they thought was best, we would have a much better shot of actually making a change. +Carlos A The term 'legal citizen' does not require a corollary term 'illegal citizen' to be valid. It simply clarifies the meaning of 'citizen' as a legal term, rather than other fairly common uses, like applying it to anyone who lives in a country.

One of the proposals that I think is a very libertarian proposal - and I'm just open to this - is taxing carbon emissions and may have the result of being self-regulating." video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000544595 If you think I'm a Trump supporter or am part of the alt-right, you're barking up the wrong tree. You know what they say about those that assume though. But yes, Bernie Sanders is an inflammatory term for me considering he is the biggest progressive politician to run for office since FDR. How about about you get your nose out of Johnson's ass-crack and take a look at his what is coming out of his mouth for a change?

***** Will not matter. Real Libertarians are never going to be more than 5% of the population. Unless all of the sudden the federal and state governments go broke and lose their power to do violence. This happening would cause people to reassess what is in their self interest and overnight half the population becomes hardened capitalist Libertarians. The other fact is 95% white and 98% plus male. Go to a large gathering of Libertarians and you will likely question even the 2% female. Put 10,000 Libertarians in a room. Throw out the "Supportive Spouses, "Honey potters" working on behalf of a non-profit or business, and "breeder Wives" and what will be left is 3 female Libertarians. I wish I was exaggerating but I'm not.

Ferrengi are Libertarians in the Trek Verse, with a small touch of alt-right misogynny. And they are the great trading empire known for shooting itself in the foot, destroying their own environment and selling weapons to both sides of wars whenever possible. Quark is shown as an example of one such being as he slowly develops over his story arc to learn that the various prejudices that were built into his society are wrong and that sometimes you need to take a side in a war for your own survival and that of your people. He goes from Conservative Libertarian to true Liberal over the course of Deep Space Nine. No longer hating other species and believing in equality of the sexes etc.

But then a given person can NOT become "wealthy" by having the larger house, the larger boat/yacht, even the larger family of, say, 8 kids, as everything is "equalized". An accomplished 50 year old man is roughly as wealthy as a 23 year old "slacker". There would still have to be rewards for "merit".

There is nothing preventing you from building your own giant house with servants. But instead of buying it all you have to convince others to help you build and supply it all. Ron, Carbon Tax is a means to ensure companies actively try to reduce emissions, encourage alternative fuels, and a way for the government to collect money to support research, deal with problems from pollution, and enforce the regulations. It's not inherently independent, Republican, or Democrat - it's not a social issue (libertarians are concerned with personal SOCIAL issues). The carbon tax is a proposed solution to edge society into advancing.
