Lost my dad on Christmas eve 2010, he was in the US, me in Europe. I wanted to go to him as soon as I heard he had cancer. He didn't want me to see him broken from the cancer. I remember how my step.mother put the phone to dad's ear when he could no longer talk or swallow. I told him I loved him and I knew he was tired and it was OK to go Home, into the Lord's arms. I found out he passed a few hours later. This song has become a way to mourn my dad and let the tears still fall. Thank you Reba!

Sorry for your loss... I think about my dad when i listen to this song... Although i was with my father and had a chance to say good bye it still hurts like hell... I sung this song and "Daddy you can let go" to him.. He passed away while i was at home in bed asleep.... 14th of Jan will be 2 yrs and feels like yesterday

You're absolutely right❤ I started crying at Rena's message at the beginning and didn't stop. Hearing this song today is special, because today (1/5/24) would've been dad's 65th birthday❤ "I'm not gone even if I leave" is so right and so powerful. Happy Birthday dad, I love you and miss you always Bob

Why this failed to chart is beyond me. I've loved this song ever since this video came out. What a shame radio ignored such an emotional, meaningful and powerful song, especially for Reba, after her dad passed away... a lot of people connect with that.

The picture that it paints is hard for most people to understand. They think horses only live in small pastures and maybe spend all their nights in a barn. Them horses ran free as often as not and sometimes they just had to run free. That's hard on city folk and lots of residents of small towns. Reba has seen horses that had to run without a rider and is painting that picture.

Susan Mazzanti I agree! I'm from a small town in TX and we're country folks around here! Horses run free when they're on open land...my dad has always had cows and those don't run much but they walk free! This song hits so close to home!

I heard my mother scream my name. I jumped from the bed and ran to their room. I grabbed my father just in time to prevent him from falling out of bed. I laid him down, and felt the ICD hit him. I said, give me a breath, and told me mother to go call the hospice nurse. When the second jolt hit him, I knew it was at an end. I held his head in my left hand, and his arm with my right. When the third jolt hit us both, i jumped. I whispered in his ear, Its OK daddy, you've done enough. You can let go, we're going to be OK. Its been 10 years. We're not OK. But I listen to songs like this, and it allows me to release a lot of the anger. Reba, you hit a home run with this one. You found your Dance.

I remember my mom in the hospital for weeks dying of PVD. It was so sad. I stayed with her every night. the one night I had to go home to get some sleep, I also whispered in her ear "momma you can go, we will be okay, you have fought a good fight". she passed away on my way home. I still feel guilty for not being there when she left. She was there when I entered this world, I wanted to be there when she left. I will never be right again. I'm sorry for your loss also.

I just melted when I heard this song. I came across it a few days after I put my 15 year old Golden Retriever down. I do not have children and he has been my world. He held on for so long. Had an eye removed, bad back leg and bumps, but I said as long as he wagged his tail and ate, I would keep him with me. I laid with him for 3 days and had to put him down. Never have I felt so much pain. I have been taking care of my mom who had a stroke almost 3 years ago and Alex kept me going. I do not usually listen to Country but do love Reba and watch her show. I listen to this song all the time. I will see him again and know he is healthy and waiting. Thank You Reba!!!

Tribute to Reba, her Dad & everyone who loves/loved him. Also, totally digging that her "Mom" grabbed a Bible and was reading it to find comfort. A nice witness to faith! Blessings to All

sorry to hear your mum passed away Reba, l know you will always love and remember her, you have sang the most touching song about the most wonderful animals on this planet, it made me think of all the pain my daughter Heidi went thru losing her beloved horse Rummie, to the malpractice of a local vet, who should have known better and questioned his actions before he over dosed Rummie with too much sedative, that's all it took, to end up killing the only horse and friend she ever had, and l know has never got over his loss, it this song saves one horse it has done it job, thank you very much Reba, you are as much a hero as Willy Nelson and what he has done for the poor old horse, love you, Carol Belbin, Penguin Tasmania

"Just Like Them Horses" She held him close, then she kissed his face He said it just has to be this way Yours is the heart I'll always keep I'm not gone even if I leave If you love me, don't you be afraid To look in my eyes and open up the gate Then watch me ride beneath a newborn sun Just like them horses When it's time to run He said, Chockie Mountain is calling me Gonna take a walk up where I can see Turn and face that western wind Oh, and I'll be home again If you love me, don't you be afraid To look in my eyes and open up the gate Then watch me ride beneath a newborn sun Just like them horses When it's time to run Oh, just like them horses She held his hand, he took one last breath Then she walked out to the front porch step Stared at the sky, tears on her face And she swore she could hear him say If you love me, don't you be afraid To look in my eyes and open up the gate Then watch me ride beneath a newborn sun Just like them horses When it's time to run Just like them horses When it's time to run When it's time to run When it's time to run Now it's time to run Just like them horses, ooh Just like them horses Oh, now it's time to run...

I like the beginning when she talked about how do you lose someone who raised you, took care of you, loved you and tried to help you fulfill your dreams. Made me think of my dad immediately we lost him to cancer in 1997. Reba can make you feel the song because she feels it inside of her and that is what makes her one of the best music artists out there and because of that it's why I love her music.

I lost my mama a week ago and I don't know how to say goodbye or even breath. She would have been 89 next month. I was adopted and I grew up riding and showing horses my whole life. My parents didn't ride but they worked hard everyday just to make sure I had horse and everything I needed to ride and show. What a blessing they were. Dad's been gone 10 years and my mom was my best friend. I'm so lost and this song really hit home. Run just like the horses mama.😪💔

Love this song, cried as listened, most beautiful words. I have lost both parents, my dad had cancer in 1999, my mom diagnosed dementia lost her 10 years later. My paternal grandfather died after I was born, paternal grandma after my dad died. I lost my maternal grandmother in 2006 to cancer, I am grateful to have my maternal grandfather still here, he is 94 years old, I know one day God will be ready to take him, it will be a very hard day for me, he is all I have left for a mentor. He has taught me a lot growing up and he is the best grandpa one could have. Thanks Reba for a beautiful song. I know you wrote it for your dad, God Bless you

Thank you Ms. Reba for making this song! After losing my Dad 3 yrs ago to a 5 yr cancer battle, this song helped me with the grieving process! My husband has been in a coma for the past two years due to a fall in a hospital. It's been a long up hill battle, but Our God is a Miraculous Heale I thank you for sharing this video, and as a daughter to another daughter who lost her father...there's no greater love we've experienced.

I lost my sweet Daddy November 3rd, 2017. Sometimes, the grief comes, "How do you say goodbye"? I was 57...but I was a little girl again. West Nil, July 9th, 2012 took his ability to walk again, learning to do life on different terms. I'm thankful for the talks we had, during moments he needed help to learn things. We etch them in our hearts. When I heard this song, I thought....my Daddy is walking again, tending a beautiful garden and drinking coffee. Thank you Reba, for sharing your journey. Kelley

Reba I have been your number 1 fan since 2017. In June of 2017 I lost my Great Grandma. Unfortunately I discovered this song after her funeral. Her and my Great Grandpa actually had horses on a 120 acre farm and this song helped me so much. If you can Reba I would love to get in touch with you just to tell you how much you mean to the fans of country music. You and George Strait are the King and Queen of Country Music. Reba you are a true legend and a gift from God. Thank you for all of your songs!

I always thought of Reba as the Madonna of country music. A queen. This song ripped my heart out. You know a song is good if it makes you dance, gives you hope, comforts you, and in this case, makes you cry. Madonna will always be the queen of pop. Reba will always be the queen of country.

Remember just like actors, the Madonna you see on stage isn't the same Madonna when she steps off stage. When she performs she takes on the persona of what the song represents. Just like a actor would do with whatever character they portray.

I had the privilege of being present when a mentor of mine, a wonderful man of God who had grown from the depths of addiction passed into heaven. I hadn't had a lot of fathering and one day I begged God for a man to teach me how to be a Christian husband and father, because I was a failure at that stuff. This man was one the men God put in my life to teach me. My dear mentor Willard died in peace, unafraid, knowing to where he was going. Looking at him lying on this death bed he reminded my of the Apostle Paul. That was some 20 years ago, but I remember him as I live out my ministry to addicts. The most important thing in recovery is to first learn to have an intimate relationship with God and with yourself.

I watch this video and it gives me peace. My daddy passed away 10 years ago and I was blessed to be with him when the pearly gates opened for him. He was in a coma from a stroke, my sisters and mom got to tell him goodbye earlier and then I finally got my chance. I told him it was ok to go, go see his mom and dad and his siblings that had already passed. We would be ok. He raised a wonderful set of 3 red headed girls and was a loving husband to our mom. It was ok to let go. And he did. He took his last breath with me by his side as he passed through the gates and saw his family that had passed before him. Reba - keep writing songs. They are all so beautiful and so meaningful. "The Man I Never Knew" is also so special to me. I never heard my daddy say "I love you" - but I know he did. When he passed, we all knew he loved us. Thank you Reba for doing what you do. Much love.

I'm so grateful for being so close to my Dad in my young adulthood, and him believing in me made me who I am today, many years after his passing, but I so remember how he said how he loved me, but also needed me to be there for his new wife and son, as he knew he wouldn't be here much longer. Sure enough he passed away when young brother Wayne was only 4 yrs. old, but I was there then and to this day still. Young brother Wayne is so much like him it's scary sometimes, and he's as stubborn as me and Dad were. Very strong beautiful character in that young boy, now a man,, and don't worry Dad, no matter what we are there for our Mamma Louise too! I hope you can see us from wherever you are and proud of all of us! I miss you every day Dad!
