This song is mature as hell. My first husband's mistress is one of my best friends now. after I left him when I was 7 months pregnant with his child because he was messing with her. She got two kids by him and he abandoned them. I realized it wasn't her it was him all along. She didn't owe me fidelity, he did. Also, she didn't know he was married. We had long talks and I found out all the lies he told her. Our kids love each other very much. We made sure to put our kids above all. 14 years later I met the man of my dreams and he treasures me and I treasure him and the special bond we share together for 5 years now. The woman who I thought was the cause of all my pain when I was so young and naive, was just another victim of our ex. I love her as my little sister. She was very young when he started messing with her. I'm there for her as she has been there for me. She would watch my son in order for me to finish college. I would watch her babies when she had any type of emergency. She is like blood to me.

I enjoy when two betrayed women can bond through the realization that the man with whom the loyalty was promised is the one who deserves the blame. @@michellepertle10 Valid Point. If women would join to make the commitment to the sisterhood to never be inappropriate with a taken man, this world dilemma would basically be solved... but unfortunately, we human beings can become selfish to our own needs. Personally, I have never *knowingly* been with a man who was spoken for by another, but men (and women) are quite capable to deceive not just their partners but their prospects. I'm not sure whether the original commentator meant the other woman was her best friend at the time the infidelity started or is her best friend now. Regardless, I was commenting that I appreciated and respected her maturity, as too often, the other woman is blamed and the cheating partner gets depicted as the victim. Ugh! I understand all too well the pain of being cheated on, and I am sorry, Michelle, that this happened to you as well. I completely agree with you that both are to blame... but I enjoy when women come together to fully realize the manipulative, narcissistic ways of certain cheaters. Wishing you the best as you move forward... 🙂
@stiras13 жыл бұрын
I never understand why people always judge "the other woman" more harshly when it is the husband who betrays his wife. I think it is a lot easier to be the "mistress" because you are in love and you don't know this other person, and it is probably easy to convince yourself that everyone will be happier if it goes your way. BUT the husband is the one betraying his wife and kids. The mistress did not promise "until death do us part", he did. He is the one who has to face his wife everyday knowing he is cheating on her. That is way worse.

Cheating affairs, infidelity, human needs, desires and jealousy happen at all ages. It doesn't take 3-year-old to have sexual "experience" for them to know that the person of their affection is interested in someone else. This could even be said for a kid wanting attention from their Dad, when all the Dad does is give attention to the Mom and visa versa. We learn these relationship dynamics from day one when we are born. Do not be ageist or ignorant.

Dolly's voice gave me chills when she first came in. She gave an entirely different vibe to the meaning of this song. I always understood it to mean the two women knew they were obsessing over a man that didn't deserve them and how they danced around the truth that they were fooling themselves into thinking they needed him. One from the wife's perspective, one from the other woman's perspective. And it still means that, but the fierceness and fire of Reba's voice and the soft, sweet melody of Dolly's voice is so powerful. The Queens of country music making a legendary collaboration. Always loved Dolly and her attitude. Love her well known saying how, “you wouldn’t believe how much money it costs me to look this cheap!” A billion bucks she’s worth from writing over 700 songs. When we lose Dolly my gosh, there’s nobody else out there who can come near her status. We’re almost out of the true legends. Reba is a legend in her own right but Dolly is a music deity.
