Crazy to think! But there will never be anyone that will sound like Reba or Vince! I’m thankful to be raised in an era where music was music!

LOL. I distinctly remember when this was not considered real country. Every era says this though looking back through the eyes of nostalgia. 😂😂

I understand and emphasize, today 7/25 is our “21st” anniversary of when we changed the world view for each other. Married to other people, (due to uncontrollable circumstances) but still to this day have few and precious stollen moments/ days. Live on opposite sides of the country, but talk or chat daily.

I don't know if Reba will ever read this comment, but back in 1989, I was on the USS Lexington (AVT-16) out of Pensacola Florida. I was dating a man who was a marine. He was the greatest love of my life, and at the time, I didn't know it. Every day for the last 32 years I have regretted not staying in touch with him. Military life goes on, and like the song says, "Sometimes life gets in the way". I tried finding him some years ago, but learned he had passed away while deployed. There's not a day that goes by I don't think of Scott (Allen Stewart). I remember his '85 Ford Mustang with the t-top, it was a cream white with burgundy lower quarter panels and burgundy interior. We were at the same tech school in Millington, TN and were set to head out on the same day to our respectful duty stations (He was heading to Beauford, SC while I was going to the Lexington). He made the trip to Pensacola for Memorial Day weekend that year, and it was the most happiest days of my naval life. We wanted to get married, but he wanted to become an officer so badly. Military rules strictly prohibit you from being married if you attend Annapolis (West Point and the AF Academy have this same strict rule), as they want you to focus on your military career during your time in the academy. I never had the opportunity to find out if he had attained his dream of becoming an officer. The first time I heard this song, and saw the video was when it premiered on CMT back in 1992. In an instant I was transported back to that weekend, and when I saw the A-4 in the background with "USS LEXINGTON AVT-16" PLAIN AS DAY ON THE SIDE I LOST IT!!! I battled breast cancer last year (going on one year cancer free... yes.... I was diagnosed, treated and BEAT CANCER'S ASS IN ONE YEAR), and during that whole time, I felt this presence with me... and as God is my witness... I swear it was Scott. It's like he never stopped loving me, but he was willing to wait until it was my time to be reunited with him. I pray that some day in the distant future, I am. Thank you Reba. Thank you Vince. Thank you both for this song, more than you will ever know. Signed, a life long fan.

@@JessieMarie74 this weekend actually marks 35 years since that weekend. I'm sitting here watching the video with tears streaming down my face. He's here with me, my dad with his arm around Scott's shoulders and he calls him the son-in-law he had hoped for, and Scott has my beloved cat Kiki (see profile picture) in his arms and she is PURRING! It's been a rough few years for me, but knowing he's here this weekend helps ease the heartache.

Looking back over the years Of All the things I've always meant to say But words didn't come easily So many times through empty fears Of all of the nights I tried to pick up the phone So scared of who might be answering You try to live your life from day to day But seeing you across the room tonight Just gives me away Cause the heart won't lie Sometimes life gets in the way But there's one thing that won't change I know I've tried The heart won't lie You can live your alibi Who can see you're lost inside a foolish disguise The heart won't lie Long after tonight Will you still hear my voice through the radio Old desires make us act carelessly Long after tonight, after the fire After the scattered ashes fly Through the four winds blown and gone Will you come back to me? You try to live your life from day to day But seeing you across the room tonight Just gives me away Cause the heart won't lie Sometimes life gets in the way But there's one thing that won't change I know I've tried The heart won't lie You can live your alibi Who can see you're lost inside a foolish disguise The heart won't lie

Mrsean Stevenson You hit the nail on the head! I am so glad I grew up listening to "these oldies" as they're now called. Songs like these are truly music. Rarely, today, do you hear a song that doesn't repeat the same line twelve times or isn't auto-tuned to death. Songs in the day" were heart-felt, told a story and just great to listen to. I can put it on the Oldies Country station and listen all day. My kids channel surf because they can't find a good song on the radio--I wonder why!

Technically this song is about: 'The Heart Won't Lie' From: 'It's Your Call' (1992) A powerful duet combining the flawless vocals of Reba and Vince Gill, this 1993 song captures the emotions of former flames reliving the past almost 20 years later. Written by 'Bette Davis Eyes' singer Kim Carnes and Donna Terry Weiss, 'The Heart Won't Lie' was originally meant to be a duet with Kenny Rogers. Instead, Vince and Reba took the song to No. 1 for two consecutive weeks. theboot.com/top-reba-mcentire-songs/

Is: YOU CANNOT STOP TRUE LOVE, from blossoming! I had a VERY CLOSE AFFINITY, with a Female Navy Nurse, when I was injured & was being treated at The Naval Hospital aboard Camp Pendleton, by Lake O'Neal, in 1o85. We hit it off right away...& were in a secret relationship for awhile... And to this day, are still great friends!

My Dad - who retired as a Marine Corps Master Sergeant (who had served as a personal bodyguard to the ambassador of Vietnam during the Fall of Saigon) was a HUGE Reba McEntire fan - but man, did he laugh his ass off at the haircut that Vince Gill was sporting while wearing the uniform of a Marine Corps Drill Instructor.

Having served 11 years in the military, I know what it’s like to have feelings for someone else in service. It can be quite difficult due to the amount of moving and just the sheer nature of the job, but you do create great memories even if the relationship doesn’t get serious. So while “the heart won’t lie”, you’re conscience should be wise enough to know when things aren’t working out. At the time it will suck, but in time you’ll have great memories and move on.

@ Vickie Poppen it’s interesting that you mention that because I’ve done research on my family name. There’s about 12 different spellings of it going all the way back to the 1700s. The I didn’t appear until the mid to late 1800s. With that said, several more recent ancestors had it spelled without the I. It’s a small world isn’t it lol?

I'd love to be the girl who helps him through his stuff in the future but now he has her and that's great truly like I told him if your happy I'm happy you know.
