I actually love this palette of colours! The moment I saw this set I imagined painting a cold, night winter scene by the water, with moonlight, Northern Lights, maybe a glacier, maybe moonlight. It’s so moody and beautiful in its way. I do think it would work nicely with the autumn set, since that one has all the yellows. Overall, it’s a beautiful set but a bit challenging, which I personally like. 😊

Excellent work. I love the way you make a paint legend in your book, and then paint pictures with the palette, it's very helpful! Also it seems of course that the picture on the front of each season palette was painted in the colours included in each season/box. Once I realized that was probably the case I was really surprised at Winter's picture, because it's just beautiful, but I'm surprised they were able to achieve it with Winter's colours.
@BeckyTregear Жыл бұрын
It definitely helps me to look back at swatches with paintings next to them! Winter was the most challenging palette for me; I'd have picked a few different colours I think. Also a future video to make; rearrange them all into what I would consider as seasonal palettes. The debate it may cause though....haha!
@pennycandyys Жыл бұрын
@@BeckyTregear Good point, those swatches would be a great reference! I can't help thinking with those Irodori palettes that, while they probably want everyone to buy them, they are more geared to either Japanese people, people who paint in the traditional style of Japanese people, or people who are buying all four sets at once, to make up for the lacking colours. I'm not sure, but you made good points with the winter palette. Just out of curiosity, did you consider painting any Japanese pictures/subjects with them?
@BeckyTregear Жыл бұрын

Hi again Becky (I just commented on your autumn video). The reds in this colour pallette would be really good as red winter berries. Oh I love this set.....I was so hoping you would use it to paint cherry blossoms in winter or magnolia trees. I guess its not really a pallet for ozy winters our colors are so different but so right for japan. Gold would be a fab highlight color but I would sneak a little yellow ochre into the set just to round it out. Thank you so much for the video Becky awesome as always.
@BeckyTregear2 жыл бұрын
That peony colour would mix with white to make an excellent cherry blossom colour - why it is in the winter set and not spring is a mystery to me, lol! I'd have swapped it for yellow ochre, which would have made life a bit easier when it came to the paintings. Oh well, at least I got something, and onwards to to the next season! 😂

I looove the genuine Alizarin Crimson. At first I thought the color palette was odd, especially considering Alizarin Crimson is made from a plant that doesn't bloom during winter. The gold also seemed misplaced... Then I figured out the color palette is probably holiday inspired. Mh. I'm not inspired by this set at all. Your mountain painting, however, is very inspiring to me! I went hiking in the Alps a couple of days ago and your painting brought me right back.
@BeckyTregear2 жыл бұрын
I didn't even think of the holidays, mainly due to Christmas being in summer for me, but that actually makes a lot of sense now that you've pointed it out. The Alizarin Crimson is just about a perfect colour for poinsettias, lol. But it is still a confusing set and I wish it had a yellow ochre and maybe silver instead of the gold (you will soon see where silver ended up, lol).

Yeah, the sets are weird. They all have at least one repeat color. But I *guess* you could think of these sets this way: Summer (rainbow/basics), Autumn (earth tones), Winter (darks) and Spring (pastels). Still, I think it's so much better to keep them as one set. These are a reboot of the original Irodori which were sold (I think) in sets of 12, 24 and 48. Those sets were possibly more useful!

You know, I don't find magenta a random colour for winter. Actually I noticed when you look at winter landscapes on snowless days, purplish version of magenta is an underlying tone for them. It's most apparent in the evening sky, but once you notice it, it's everywhere. That's why the reddish purple jacket the girl wore at Netflix series Nisseer was in such a harmony with the wintry landscapes - it stood out, but never clashed. In fact, analysing the colour palette of that series first gave me the idea, but later it was confirmed in observing actual landscapes.
