It takes time and planning but moving on and learning to better yourself is key because inevitably they will ruin the other relationships the same way they did with you. Yes, they'll try and hoover you back but with every confrontation learn to keep strengthening your barriers - keep notes on their behavior and when the time is right - use that against them. They do slip up- it just takes time to get the control back. But getting yourself back is key.

I divorced a NPD lawyer he dragged it through the courts for 9 years, canceling numerous court dates with BS excuses, every word that came out of his mouth was a lie. The legal system needs reform because these abusive men believe they own you until the divorce is final. I had to move out of town, go no contact and he still finds ways of contacting me. It doesn’t matter if you try to get away, once it’s gone to court, I told the judge “ he can have my pension”, “ I don’t want anything from the house” “ I don’t want alimony” I told him I just wanted a divorce certificate? The judge wouldn’t allow me to walk away with nothing. The legal system definitely needs reform, it kept me tied to an abusive man for 9 extra years, with restraining orders and all.

You’re so right it’s slow process. After my daughter passed,I have 50& custody of my 2 daughters older kids with her husband. They are his step kids. Boy, its a slow process. I’m still learning, but at least I’ve stepped a step back from him and only deal with him if necessary. It’s been so hard but I’m learning different skills. I find first, don’t take the bait. I’m at peace. Now I have peace in my heart. I can’t wait til my grandkids turn 18, so I can really put him at a distance.

I'm with you christine. Once my son turned18 and left home the dynamic changed with my ex and I didn't need to deal with her anymore. Haven't spoken or seen her for about 9 years so it's definitely something to look forward to. Except kids and grandkids getting married. That's something that you will have to deal with....

It is difficult to escape when you have few resources and the nars is scrambling your brain by constantly keeping you off balance. It is a daily re-victimization. But you have one thing on your side: remember that knowledge is power. I knew nothing about narcissists while I was being latched onto. Try to learn from this lady as she knows her stuff...not too often in life you get free advice from a high powered attorney.

Hi I love your strength and knowledge. I am so grateful for your KZbins .. my problem is a retired couple sitting in their home, living right in front of me. .. staring at me, copying everything I do... Hate it with every cell in my body. I am building a fortress around my house because he is a maggot trying to look inside my house. I smuggle my stuff in my home so they don't see anything. I had to move my main gate to my backyard to the side of my yard because he was at his window staring at me... It helped to cover my home but it's been so much time and money. I know they don't get it. The only way they see me now is through the garage.. I don't open it until I am in my car. I have signs calling them names when the garage door is opening which also has deflected them. They are parasites. My home is paid off I don't want to move. I have a beautiful garden that I've worked on for years. I am also an artist so I focus on that. This didn't happen until they retired, we where friends until I caught them stalking me. . my question is how is it that I felt like my house was raped. I tore down walls and anything they saw and got rid of it... I made sure they could see it was gone. Thank you so much for the work you do

We’ve been trying to co-parent for the past 11 years which is impossible because of their narcissistic personality. Communication and negotiations are impossible.
