This is truly a universal song, I remember watching the closing ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics when Paul sang this and had the athletes from all around the world singing along to the song

Those naa naa naas. I remember in the early 60's being at a night club in Sheffield UK, where ballroom dancing, along with rock & roll , 60 's music etc, was the routine and everyone was dressed in their finest outfits. After the waltz, foxtrot, quick-step, etc, the DJ came on for his session and amongst his repertoire was a new record from the Beatles. From the hubbub at the bar's arose the chant 'naa naa', and it eclipsed the whole nightclub, and went on, I swear, forever. And everyone would sing in unison to 'I Want to Hold Your Hand. The Beatles had arrived and everyone was thankful to finally cast off the misery of the 50's. Thanks for the reminder.

It's difficult to listen to this song without finding myself in tears, as it brings back so many memories from childhood, which can sometimes be emotionally overwhelming. Paul McCartney is and will always be Britain's greatest-ever musician, songrwriter and artist. There's simply no one else who comes close. Thanks for another excellent reaction and well-considered analysis of what makes this particular performance so special. Cheers from the UK!

1968, OMG. A heart felt song. A year that brings back so many memories in my life. I was drafted and on my way into battle. I was leaving behind the love of my life. Fortunately I survived but during my time away the relationship failed. I eventually found my soulmate years later. But I still remember, on occasion, that special love that I felt during the memorable time I spent with her. Great reaction. Keep up the great work. A fan for life.

And that love in Paul’s heart shines through to everybody else. I saw The Beatles live in 1966 and to think he is still putting on concerts at the age of 80 and is touring over 60 years after the band first got together is incredible. How many people has he touched over that time ? What a guy.

I've seen him twice once in the old Kingdome (football&baseball stadium) here in Seattle and once in MSG in New York. I won a pair of tickets airfare and hotel from a radio station here. if you'd like to see a great live concert version of a song by Paul check out "Live and Let Die". if you do try the one from the Kingdome concert. That concert is a movie called " Rockshow" and his live album "Wings Over America".

There's not a lot to be said about the Beatles that hasn't already been said a million times, so here are a couple of fun links. First, Paul McCartney's Carpool Karaoke with James Corden from the Late Late Show. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5vZq3aKptB1erM I would just love to have been in that pub at the end! Then there is this little-seen clip from Ready Steady Go in 1963. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqiTf2yleL92mqc When the Beatles were first starting out, their manager, Brian Epstein thought that after the clubs in Hamburg they needed some exposure to the UK and a tour was arranged where they were the support act for Helen Shapiro, who had her first hit at age 14, and was already an old hand by the time of this recording in late 1963, by which time she had just turned 17. By then the Beatles had already had a couple of hits of their own, but they seemed very happy to give Helen their support on live TV. The song is a bit naff, but the voice is incredible, and I just love the obvious mutual affection they have for each other. And what poise and self-confidence from a 17 year old! Just trivia, I know, but hopefully fun!

bit lte here, at 70 + I'm slowing down... anyway - how many tunes, practically everyone on the planet can sing along. for real. back in '67, a month or so after Sgt Pepper was released ( and I graduated from H.S. ) there was a live TV world wide release, of a Beatles song. all Ya need is love - not a great tune but not became kind of standard.

It would have better to have chosen the version with all the Beatles playing it in a television studio. Much better. The most recent isn’t always the best and without the other three of the Fab Four, this is not as good.
