I put T-Rex crash bars on my 2001 Rebel 1100 (the first option I put on). They went on easy but stick out about a foot on each side. Look kind of strange and haven't used them yet (crashed, lol). I bought them before there were some that were closer in. However, I am sure the T-Rex bars will protect the bike and my legs if needed. I've been riding 50 years and don't think there's a bike that I haven't at least fallen over with. I suggest that the crash bars you buy stick out at least 4" wider than your legs.

Thanks for another great video. Just installed a set on my 2022 DCT and it went together pretty well. My bike did not have the inside spacers it was a solid piece. The left side did drop about 1/4" even with the engine supported and when I raised the jack a bit it did not move it. So ended up using a socket extension up against the spacer and the jack and was able to raise the jack enough to match everything up. Doing it by myself and was able to get a hold of both sides of the lower bolt to tighten and torque.

Hi Gus, a while back we had a discussion on crash bars. I went with T-Rex because that was all that was available at the time. While, they may look a bit gaudy, maybe eve ugly, today they saved my leg when I hit a deer doing about 60. The right crash bar got bent back about a foot but all I got is some bruisning on my leg. These bars are too stout to bend back without a hydraulic press so I'll just buy new ones. And yes, I'll buy the same thing. I had a broken leg once from a bike crash and it took almost a year to heal. I ain't doing that again. I stopped, turned around to see what I hit. The deer was still trying to get up when some guy came by and shot it to put it out of it's misery. I didn't even see him, I just felt the huge thump (WTF was that) and looked in my mirror and he was flopping around on the road. The Rebel just wobbled a bit, never lost control nor went down.

@ontherebel112 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven, the 5mm bolts do not need to be tightened more than 3-5 foot pounds. But be careful if you are using a torque wrench, sometimes at such low torque numbers, the wrench may not register and you end up applying to much force and ripping the head of the bolt.... i learnt that the hard way in the past, that's why i don't use a torque wrench for bolts of this nature.

Do you ever become concerned with the risk of having that rigid piece catch traction with the ground in an accident and it result in further injury? I fear that in a low side it might catch onto something and flip the bike over, which may toss you with it on it or it may land on you or someone else. I always worried about that with all bikes and types of crash pegs/guards but with cruiser bars like this it always seemed riskier. I respect your opinion and experience with riding so I'm curious what your thoughts are. I'll still consider and make my own decision, ofcourse. I'm considering getting just pegs that fold in and mounting them to the frame in some way. I am very close to someone that had a Harley with guards like this and his bike ended up launching in the air and landing on his head leading to severe TBI and lifelong complications. I had those concern well before that accident, but it seemed to line up with this as the cause of it happening in that way.
@ontherebel11 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, that's a great question, thank you for bringing it up. I've had the same fears for many years - here is what my personal experience on the track has been: i've personally dropped my bike many times (over 100 mph, 60 mph, 30 mph, standing still even) both with and without guards / sliders and have seen countless bikes crash right in front of me. The argument remains the same from decades ago.... with or without? Based on what i have personally experienced, there is no pattern that i have seen leaning one way or the other, i've personally seen my bike tumble with and without guards, i've also seen people get hurt by the bike both with and without guards...... heck i've hurt my ankle 3 times where i couldn't walk for weeks, but non of the injuries were a result of the bike falling on me (with and without guards), i've hurt my knee, head, back and 2 dislocated shoulders.... again, non of which were a result of the bike hurting me. I've also personally seen several riders get trapped under a bike both with and without guards..... the one consistent trend i've seen is that crash dynamics are impossible to predict - for reference, you could watch a motoGP race and see how some high speed falls cause the bike to just slide while at times they tumble, and the same applies to slow speed falls. My choice of guards for the rebel is a result of the aforementioned experience, they offer the best chance of a slide, they are soft enough to bend if one impacts an animal, they offer a little gap in case the bike falls on top of one's leg, they are high enough on the frame to not become a fulcrum for the bike to roll over, they look good, they offer a mounting area for lights and highway pegs for additional safety and comfort. It is the best compromise for me. Sorry about being long winded.
@DetectiveStablerSVU Жыл бұрын
@@ontherebel11 Long winded is great. 👍 I appreciate the response and your sharing of your experiences with crashes. That about lines up with what I've found when I look into it. It's certainly inconclusive when it comes to matter-of-fact. I had always thought that if I got ones it would be ones with the properties you described on this set (not too large, soft, etc). Thanks again for your feedback -always helpful and always appreciated. Let's hope neither of us never have to find out how they react to a crash. 🫡

@ontherebel112 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerome! I haven't personally tried to do it without supporting the engine, but some owners have reported to me that supporting the engine helps keep the bolt lined up. Fyi, preventing the engine from dropping will be easier that lifting the engine to line up the hole.

Hi MNGirl, it's great to hear from you again! I've heard the same thing from several people, SW motech informed them that the reason why it is not for the DCT is that it doesn't stick out far enough to provide protection, this information was not available when they first released it. I've had mine on for about a year with no issues, but I haven't dropped the bike on the right side with the crash guards installed, I dropped the bike twice on the right side before installing the guards and once on the left after installing the guards, I included footage of the drop in the owner review video 😊

This install is such a pain with the new design. Can't get enough space for the second spacer and the bar to fit between the gap. 💀
@ontherebel115 ай бұрын
Hi Pablo, thank you sharing your experience, I haven't personally seen the new design so I appreciate the insight brother! 🤙
@TheTurtleCalledPablo5 ай бұрын
With the new design there's only the two clamps, the two adhesive rubber strips, two spacers and the two bars. There's no longer spacers that go in the arm sleeve bolts. The only spacers that are used are on the inside. The 2024 rebel doesn't have a bolt on both sides of that engine rod (idk what to call it). It only needs to get bolted in on one side, but my friend and I had the worst time feeding the bolt back through due to the engine and housing shifting down a little bit. We got an an airshem and used that to jack up the center. We then used a jack hook to just pull and push the metal some to where we could create enough space for the 2nd spacer cause the crash guards go in the space with the spacers. It was a pain but the guards are on. Thanks for giving us insight on where to lift the bike with the air Shem and the clamp placements.

Hitting a wild animal is most likely to happen near dusk or dawn. Todays occurance when I hit (or was hit by) a deer occured while it was still quite light out. It is also very prevalent in rural areas where there are fields for grazing and water availability. Animals will cross the road to get to the resourses they need and to take care of family and mate. In my riding experience, I have seen many animals ready to cross the road, allowing you to prepare to react. Today, this deer came out of a ditch and ran into the side of my bike. There was no way to react. I don't know how to explain this but it is like when you are riding at 60mph and hit a bug. No warning, just zap and by the time you think about it has already happened. In this case it was a 200lb blind sided hit. So, the moral is, beware but you can never be too careful and leave after dinner activities to the critters. I have hit deer, javalinas, and many small animals. I hope I never encounter an ELK or Moose. I was lucky today in that it was a doe. A bucks antlers would have Fd me up.
