turbolasters and blasters are hurt by the atmosphere but so are mass driver rounds. the biggest thing is the kind of energy they’re bringing that’s in play: kinetic energy. even being in the atmosphere they have acceleration behind them that compensates for the atmosphere, being kinetic they aren’t affected by space as gravity doesn’t come into play nor does heat and light refraction. in the real world it’s why sabot rounds in tanks are the norm over high-explosive rounds as you’re firing a dart with a vast amount of energy behind it into a small target causing damage behind it killing everyone inside. it’s also why M30A1 artillery rounds are so horrific to men and machinery: thousands of holes in a split second destroying the equipment and killing you
@thieupham4932 ай бұрын
LMFAO, ok genius, take a mass driver round and fire it at a planet and see how much the atmosphere will actually slow it down compared with it's initial speed and any it picks up from the gravity of that planet and then explain how much energy that big block of durasteel is slowed down by the atmosphere. The force of gravity will accelerate an object way more than the minute amount of speed lost to atmospheric friction. If you launch an asteroid at a planet, the people underneath are already dead before the rock ever hits. Ask a scientist about atmospheric compression and all of that weird science stuff that's not really relevant to Star Wars like a human with such fast reflexes he's able to time his hyper space jump through shields with a fractional refresh rate and then immediately shuts off the engine to slow down the flying saucer before it slams into the planet. I heard the average human's reaction time is like .2 seconds and I have no idea how fast light speed in Star Wars is, but I assume it's actually way faster than the speed of light. I wonder how far a ship would travel at light speed in those .2 seconds.

Same with the latest model U-boats (Type 19, IIRC), which was probably the only Third Reich superweapon that genuinely was everything it was hyped out to be. Had it come out earlier in the war it would have revolutionized submarine warfare and completely shifted to power dynamic of the battle of the Atlantic, due to being able to move faster under water than Allied destroyers could on surface, allowing it to attack even heavily defended convoys with impunity. Basically every post-WW2 submarine until the development of nuclear submarines was directly based on prototypes captured by the Allies. Unfortunately for the Nazis, the project suffered repeated delays and the first examples came into service just as the war ended (as in they were literally sent to their first mission, only for their crews to be told the war was over and they should surrender before having a chance to fire a single shot).

The Dark Side of the Force represents destruction and self-destruction. Peace is anathema to it, and so the Empire was not designed to ever attain peace. Tarkin, who wasn't even Force-sensitive, managed to cause a great disturbance in the Force that Obi-Wan felt from a long distance away and while in hyperspace. Palpatine, driven by the imperatives of the Dark Side, favored mass-destruction, especially if it caused great fear, which also fueled the Dark Side. So the Death Stars were not particularly logical, but they were very much in line with terrorizing the galaxy. Rational military thinking took a back seat to the demands of the Dark Side.

The senators in the Republic can theoretically get their power through all sorts of methods and represent all kinds of governments. Just because many planets in the galaxy had some form of limited democracy doesn't mean the Republic was a democracy since it didn't actually do anything to protect that democracy. The Empire simply centralised the federation's authority and gave power to the military and executive branches, the former not existing and the latter basically being ceremonial in the Republic.

Let's fix this then. Step 1) Make it impractically large, but let's refuse to add more TIE fighters, point defense weapons, and multiple munitions launchers. Those are way too expensive... Step 2) Reduce the overall damage output of the main weapons. That way we need to double production in order to achieve the same results. Step 3) Bask in the glory of the latest and greatest Onager! With it's reduced range and firepower, nobody can mistake that imposing silhouette as it spends hours hammering away at your pathetic regional shield generators! All shall tremble before the might of the Empire! ... Step 4) Send the design back to the drawing board... That command tower is still way too close to the hull. Make it taller! Step 5) Those hyperdrive engines are way too expensive. Let's install the more reliable Class 4 hyperdrives. That'll learn those Rebel Scum! Step 5) This R&D is becoming way too expensive. Reduce the armor thickness on the hull, and begin a sustained supply of shield generators from Temu. Also remove one of those sublight engines for good measure. We need these things to be much more cost effective! Step 6) Uh oh... Rebel squadrons are bombing our manufacturing facilities... Release the Onagers!! Step 7) Well, all of the Onagers are gone, and the one factory that was producing them is severely damaged. Better write that design off as a failure. We tried, boss.

Like the Onager, this type of ship also had a main forward facing rail gun that fired an enormous plasma shot, which was very devastating when it fired at enemy warships and planetary ground targets. This ship was a Imperial design and was found by Tyber Zann, the leader of the Zann Consortium criminal syndicate from the wreckage of the first Death Star. Unlike the Onager, the Aggressor had two powerful fire-linked guns fixed to the forward hull which fired a large ion pulse followed by an enormous, spiraling plasma shot. The ion shot disabled the shields so the plasma shot could do maximum damage. Its not known if their cannons were powered by Kyber crystals, but they were extremely powerful nonetheless and could make short work of enemy capital ships and space stations. Although the Aggressor was from Legends, I like to think that whoever designed the Onager also came up with the Aggressor. Either that or one of the designs inspired the creation of the other.

I imagine Allen being present in one of Palpatine's council-meetings, where they discuss how to best use the Kyber crystal-technology to subjugate the galaxy, and Allen is like "Why don't we just use the kyber crystals to make infinite energy for the people, so that they will want to remain loyal to the Empire by their own choise?"

I feel like part of it was that Palpatine couldn't risk placing that much power in THAT many people's hands. One Death Star, sure you can give control of that to a trusted subordinate who wouldn't stab you in the back or go rouge. 1000 planet cracking ships? No way, there's no way that he could trust THAT many people with the power to snipe the Imperial Palace on Corusant.
@architectrealities76932 ай бұрын
wasn't the whole 'secret' reason for the deathstar project was so palpatine could 'oneshot' the vong when they came to show off the might of the empire to 'protect' people from hostile aliens and smoother rebellions.

Tarkin: We need 2 death stars! Thrawn: Why not cheaper droid tie interceptors, a handful of tie defenders, smaller more efficient star destroyers and carriers with proper escort ships, and a handful of interdictors and onagers, all for a fraction of the cost of 2 death stars.

I feel that instead of ever making it a movie instead a Rogue Squadron series would be amazing especially for a 8 episode season. Making each episode like a Band of Brothers like story. Spend much time getting to know the teams of pilots. With each episode a different mission leading up to an epic battle. Also each season you could spend in a different era.

@KevekGaming2 ай бұрын
Hard disagree. The Onager class is a specialized weapon using expensive and rare materials. When used in a theoretical fleet of 1,000 Onagers would use a lot of personnel, maintenance time, and be resource intensive. Crewing 1,000 Onagers would take more than ten times the personnel used the crew the Death Star and be even more expensive in all costs associated. The Empire's crews and captains are a finite number, albeit a big one, but finite regardless. Crew and captains used in the Onager's, a weapon tat is limited in scope and purpose takes away crew and captains from more general purpose vessels. The Onager is a good ship design for its purpose, and a few at the sector fleet level would have been a much better use of the Death Star's budget honestly. What was Alliance Intelligence smoking?
@thieupham4932 ай бұрын
The Empire has so many people they don't even bother to protect them from solar radiation when they send them into space to fight. You can grow more people quickly, but it takes a long time for Kyber Crystals to grow, but you can definitely reuse crystals whenever you upgrade to a new ship class. The materials in these Starships can always be recycled. You will never run out of stupid people willing to serve a Dark Lord of the Sith, just ask Donald Trump and his apprentice Dark MAGA.
@build4timetfisakilometer2 ай бұрын
hey bro idea: what if the empire stopped the resistance from becoming as organized as it eventually became
@thieupham4932 ай бұрын
The Empire should have sent in infiltrators to start their own factions in the rebellion. If you get enough factions going, they end up tripping over one another and every setback can always be pinned on another faction. Keep them fighting each other and give your plants extra resources and successes and they will eventually be in charge and can serve the rebellion up one small faction at a time.

I don't think you realize how many inhabited worlds there are in Star Wars. They could destroy dozens of planets a year without causing even a blip on the radar. In Legends, the galaxy had 3.2 billion inhabited systems, canon recognizes the number as 3.2 million, and the Galactic Republic represented 1.3 million planets during the prequel era.
@rotmistrzjanm8776Ай бұрын
Yeah that number of 3.2 bilion is stiupid if Republic had only 1.3 milion worlds

Palpatine had the same issues with understanding people and technology that Hitler had. I'm sure the comparison wasn't accidental. Instead of trying to rule through fear, all Palpatine had to do was provide food, comfort, and security to the masses. After a decade or less, they would have grown so used to the Empire's helping hand that they would have turned a blind eye to any shenanigans they got up to.

One thing that puzzles me about the Star Wars universe is that you do not seem to have any uploaded cultures, or any heavily cyborg cultures of any note. This would seem the obvious route to go since as soon as you and your species don't depend on oxygen worlds, you effectively stop competing with the Empire and can co-exist with them fairly happily. A cybernetic species would also be able to travel to places where hyperdrives cannot or do not go, and exploit resources and planets that oxygen-requiring life cannot use. It would finally be much more flexible in habitat and would be able to spend the bulk of its time in virtual environments, needing only a ship and an energy source to keep the computers functional.
